NextPVRv5 Backend very slow to launch
Posted by: othello - 2020-05-25, 04:55 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (7)

I am noticing that NextPVR v5 takes an extremely long time to launch on system start, over 90 seconds to go green in the system tray. This upsets my Kodi that also launches on system start because it cannot connect to the NextPVR backend so I have to wait until it's available and then restart Kodi. A complete fail for what's supposed to be a solid DVR/media center appliance.

Intel NUC10i7FNH with Windows 10 Pro and HDHomerun Prime as my cable tuner. This is a new computer for my HTPC itch. I installed NextPVR v5 fresh on the new system. It had little trouble finding the HDHomerun and setting up the channels and EPG. I also have the "keep digital tuners primed" checkbox enabled. I checked firewall settings, all is fine there; once the tray goes green then I can connect with the NextPVR client or the Kodi app and view live TV. Just not before.

My workhorse HTPC of over 3 years (Intel NUC5i5RYH) has NextPVR 4 and no issues starting up quickly with the system. I am tempted to remove NextPVR v5 and install v4 if I can't figure out why v5 is taking so long to go green.

Any ideas?

  V5 Manual Recording Extender
Posted by: jcole998 - 2020-05-25, 04:00 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (6)

Would like to see a mechanism that would allow a user to manually change the endtime(in either direction) of an active recording.

Sometimes setting the post-padding for any given event may be too little or too much. To my knowledge, there is currently no way to extend a recording once the recording begins.

web app not finding file on disk on network
Posted by: pascalb - 2020-05-25, 10:13 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (11)

I mounted a shared disk on the machine used as server and also for nextpvr app
NextPVR desktop apps replay the recorded file when the web apps has a black screen and complains it cannot find the file.

The export recording shows the correct location for the file (correctly understood by the deskstop app)

Question Synology DS2415+ Install
Posted by: sojourner353 - 2020-05-25, 07:43 AM - Forum: NextPVR Support - Replies (3)

Hi all,

Have been reading the forums for about a week now and watched many YouTube videos but for the life of me I cannot get NextPVR working on my Synology DS2415+.

I've tried installing through putty and installing through the GUI and nothing seems to work, it looks like the container runs but cannot access it at all, i imagine these is advanced settings for setting up in GUI but I don't know what these settings should be.

Is there any tutorials online for Synology GUI install or docker on Synology install?

Thanks in advance for any assistance with this.

  Failed to start requested stream
Posted by: baj1 - 2020-05-25, 05:35 AM - Forum: Linux - Replies (10)

I have just installed v5 on Linux Mint v19.3 on my new HTPC.  I had previously tested v5 in a Mint VM but this is the real-deal now.

I was able to watch live TV from the web interface TV Guide using my HRHD tuners, but then busted something when I went to set a static IP address for this PC.  /etc/resolv.conf kept getting over-written (separate Linux issue), but after I got that straightened out I could no longer watch live TV from the TV Guide page.  I get "Failed to start requested stream" message in red at the bottom.  I went back to DHCP and undid the resolv.conf and interface changes, but it didn't fix my live TV issue.  Perhaps it's unrelated, but the timing is right as a cause.

I can record a show and then play it immediately from the web UI.

I replicated this using Kodi with knewc, both locally and on my ODroid (can't watch live TV, can play recording).

Logs attached.  I did a clean boot and tried to play live TV from Guide, but couldn't find anything that looked like an error in the log file.  Of course I don't really know what I'm looking for either.

I tried to watch "The Collection on Masterpiece" on channel 2.1 KTCADT if that helps.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
-Brad

AppleTV app, runaway TvGuide - ver 3.0
Posted by: markn62 - 2020-05-25, 01:18 AM - Forum: NextPVR iOS and AppleTV Clients - Replies (26)

I couldn't use in the prior release, since no manual ip add til now, so not sure if this is new problem. Using the iPhone remote app or iPhone native remote, while in TvGuide, scrolling is run-away. Soon as I swipe down into the guide and try to navigate to a program the scroll runs out of control to the bottom of the screen. Can kind of navigate around but it has a mind of its own. Very hard to get on the program I want, and tap to select, before it moves off to another program. When it runs off the beep goes into a repeating beep as the selection runs all the way to the bottom or top of the screen and keeps beeping til the app is closed. Does it on both IPTV tuner, with any group, and the OTA tuner. Not sure if it does this with the original remote as it broke a few months ago. Anyone else have this problem?

  Understanding Recording Priority Rules???
Posted by: HarryH3 - 2020-05-24, 07:37 PM - Forum: NextPVR Support - Replies (9)

Every now and then I'll see a recording conflict, but in nearly every instance, at least one of the conflicting shows is on the same channel again within 2-4 hours after the scheduled time. I'm trying to understand how the recording priority rules work.  Do they refuse to even look for alternate times for any of the shows that already have a higher priority?  Is it possible to set the rules to allow a different recording time, regardless of priority?  That would resolve nearly every conflict that I see on my system.  My current fix is to either A) manually reschedule one of the shows, or B) move the "new" show that is in conflict from the bottom to the top of the priority list.  Either way, then the conflict is gone after the EPG updates that night.

For example, the current conflict is at 8:00 PM on June 4.

Don't Record: In The Dark
Cancel: Mountain Men
Cancel: Blindspot
Cancel: Restaurant Impossible

Mountain Men episode is on again at 11:03 PM
Restaurant Impossible episode is on again at 11 PM

Can I set something to tell NPVR that it's OK to go ahead and change one of the recording times if it finds another timeslot available?

Sometimes I don't even notice that there is a conflict until after the recording has been missed.  Sad

Logs attached.

Why am I losing the scheduling of recordings??
Posted by: Uosdwis - 2020-05-24, 03:38 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

I set a show to record EVERYTHING, no matter what, come back later, and the boxes aren't red?! So I manually hit each episode to record individually, and IT HAD BETTER STICK. If there's some REASON, it would be nice to tell me: I  have enough tuners..as I said, I don't care about duplicate repeats, record it anyway..I have plenty of space..the guide is working fine..  This also appears to happen occasionally on my Tivo, weirdly.

  NextEnd Extension Mechanism
Posted by: jcole998 - 2020-05-24, 02:03 PM - Forum: Add-ons (3rd party plugins, utilities and skins) - Replies (7)

NextEnd sometimes needs to tell the NextPVR service to manipulate a recording's end time. How is this done, please? Changing the database and telling the service to re-read? Direct message to the service? Is there a coding example available?

It could be a handy tool in my toolbox.

Thanks.

Overnight EPG update causing Service to partly fail
Posted by: Lao Pan - 2020-05-24, 07:14 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (18)

Since installing v5 18052020 there have been problems with the EPG overnight update

I have been getting the following Error in Windows log most nights and when doing a Manual update.

Code:
<Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> - <System> <Provider Name="Application Error" /> <EventID Qualifiers="0">1000</EventID> <Level>2</Level> <Task>100</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2020-05-23T01:48:29.000000000Z" /> <EventRecordID>69762</EventRecordID> <Channel>Application</Channel> <Computer>SUPER-LAO-PAN-2</Computer> <Security/> </System> - <EventData> <Data>DeviceHostWindows.exe</Data> <Data>1.0.0.0</Data> <Data>5eb19bc7</Data> <Data>MSNP.ax</Data> <Data>6.6.9600.17415</Data> <Data>54504652</Data> <Data>c0000005</Data> <Data>0001f88d</Data> <Data>1620</Data> <Data>01d630a3dbfdd1a6</Data> <Data>C:\Program Files\NextPVR\DeviceHostWindows.exe</Data> <Data>C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\MSNP.ax</Data> <Data>7fe5216a-9c97-11ea-83c2-001d7de64ead</Data> <Data/> <Data/> </EventData> </Event>

Yesterday I replaced the latest nshared & nutility dll's from https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=60984 to see if that would help.
There was no overnight error, but on waking computer Kodi updated the listings, seems to play Live TV OK and record, but the tray icon is grey. Killing the process and restarting tray.exe does nothing - it required a service stop and restart to get the icon green again.

Logs are from immediately after kodi loaded listings and before attempting live tv etc.

Quick Kodi question - Have had a few problems where the schedules have been changed due to Covid 19 stuff, but the kodi epg has been scrambled. Looks as though the new programs / times were being added to the local Kodi cache, not replacing the previous ones.
I think I may have fixed it by disabling the [Use local epg cache] in Kodi - it is on the same machine as Npvr so only takes about 10 seconds longer to load Kodi on starting. Is this the correct solution?
