Posted by: McBainUK - 2006-04-24, 01:01 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (11)

Just wondered if anyone here plays games on their PC?

I cant get enough of Battlefield 2 (its like playing with your toy soldiers again :Smile ), also Counter strike source from Valve is a current fav too.

Well, need some help designing my system...
Posted by: Cheshireccat - 2006-04-24, 11:02 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

First I will describe what I want my system to do, then I will describe what I have already decided on, then I will ask the questions of the hardware, software and other options I'm not sure about or missing tid bits, then I will leave my usual audiophile quote. Worst part is my woman will be using this system, so three very important aspects must be followed: 1.) must set up quickly and easily 2.) must be easy to learn to control the remote 3.) must be stable, one crashand she will want a Tivo. One crash during Gilmore Girls and you will be seeing my bloody murder in the news. You guys have helped me choose most of the items I've chosen, but I am just listing everything at once instead of many little posts.

My system, (What I want it to do)
I want the system I'm building to do these things:
Play live TV
Record TV programs ahead of time
allow me to view program information for that day at least if not further into the future
Play Mpeg and MP3 files off my computer network (on a mapped network drive)
Show the Weather
Show TTX (teletext - I'm in europe)
Allow me to control all remotely around the house (prefer wifi and IR mix)
Play tv and video files on TV
Allow me to sort by album and artist on the tv screen for music.
My IPAQ to provide a Front End for managing my music collection >12,000 songs and music videos
PVR software must be compatible with O2Grabber

What I already have planned to use: ( I only have the IPAQ already so am open to other ideas for hardware)
GBPVR - for recording, weather, mp3, mpeg, divx, show listings, display on tv
XLobby or Net Remote to control it, runing on my Ipaq via ir and wifi... PPC support a must
Computer - Shuttle XPC SN21G5 3400+ AMD 64, 1-2G RAM, 200 Gig HD, DVD-ROM, USB 2.0 802.11G
hauppauge winTV pvr 500 (dual inputs allow recording and watching at same time on same tv, supports TTX)
CMU11 X10 output
Gyration wireless RF keyboard and mouse
O2grabber for EPG (works perfectly!!)

Not Sure about this stuff and would like help on:
-Video Card PCI-E is a must, needs TV out, was going to use Media MVP but I don't want a big box, or ethernet cable running around there. ATI? not sure, would love ideas, and would consider a USB device or a convertor to go from SVGA to S-video or RCA
-Xlobby and Net Remote do not communicate with GBPVR and their PVR software does not have the options I want in a system.
-No USB X10 controller that I know about ( anyone know of one that isn't serial for 220 that is?)
-How to control X-10 from remote, not intersted in firefly remote, I want to use my damn IPAQ
-Now I know most of this will work together, but if anyone knows a program besides GB that will give me all this support, preferably in their own program, not using other programs for playback, this would mean I have to make more controls to take care of each program and get very complicated.
Any other Ideas would be great!

  Harmony 688 Remote
Posted by: Lindsay - 2006-04-24, 09:04 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (7)

I have just received one of these as the "FINAL" answer to my multiple remotes. Smile Has anyone else installed this to work with MVP and GBPVR? The initial setup recognized the mediamvp but ignored it when setting up activities! I have added it as a media PC for "Show Presentation" and it had a go at figuring what the remote was by testing three keys in learn mode. I haven't tested it yet (wife watching "Desperate Housewives"!!) but will do so in half an hour.

If someone has used it I would be very interested in hearing of their experiences.

  Theater Plugin - Additional Sources?
Posted by: BFV/AcidRain - 2006-04-24, 06:05 AM - Forum: Developers - Replies (1)

First, hats off to all of the developers here. I just started into trying to build my own DVR+ within the last 3 days. I went through several programs and *thank God* I stumbled accross a link to GB-PVR... wow! Thanks guys!

Jorm,

The Fandango site is missing information for a couple of theaters in my area. I want to emphasize that this seems to be a lacking on fandango - not a problem with your plugin.

However, google lists all of the theaters that fandango does, along with the missing ones from fandango. If you have the time, energy and desire to do so, would it be a lot of trouble to throw in an option to get listings from fandango, google or both?

Here are my two links:

Google) http://www.google.com/movies?hl=en&near=49442
Fandango) http://www.fandango.com/TheaterListings....yzipsearch

Thanks again for all of your hard work on this!!

  video playback reboot
Posted by: dooleyd - 2006-04-24, 01:06 AM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (9)

I initially tested the mediamvp with gbpvr on my laptop, got it all working, then decided to build a dedicated server. I built a XP machine from scratch, installed gbpvr, directx, sp2 and a mpeg decoder (i'm just using it for playback, no recording device is on this machine)

It comes up find, and can play audio, but whenever I select a video (it's mostly divx and avi files), the screen goes black for about 3 seconds then says "contacting servers"

any ideas?

  Error launching Config.exe
Posted by: chrisjx - 2006-04-24, 12:50 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

From a fresh start, after reboot, I launch the config routine and I get the following error message?

Anyone got any clues?

TIA,
Chris.

  Manual EPG Download
Posted by: d67206 - 2006-04-24, 12:23 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I do not have internet access at home full time other than using
my cell phone. Is it possible to download the zap2it EPG at work
and bring it home on a CDRW and insert it into the GBPVR EPG?

If so, how?

  0kb files?
Posted by: 5%NationofCasiotone - 2006-04-23, 11:19 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (10)

Recently I've had a problem where GBPVR hasn't been recording programs that I have scheduled. A file is created, as if GBPVR is taping it, but it is a 0 kb file. Restarting my computer fixed it, but then it stopped working again (so I restarted and it was fixed). How can I fix this problem(without restarting whenever it stops working after already missing a program)?
