When I'm using the hardware-decoder, it seems that the Live View is using overscan mode. A litte black border at the top and bottom of the picture is shown and when I'm using teletext the is a little (about some lines) border of the TV-picture at the right side. Maybe its cause by a registry tweak I made bevor installing GB-PVR. But I can't remember about that exactly. Or is that an known problem with the TV-Out? WinTV2K dosn't show the black border in TVout-mode.
I have struggling for a little while with my first dedicated PVR/GBPVR system build. I purchased a PVR-150 and installed it and GBPVR on an old AMD Athlon MP 1700+ (1.1 Ghz) computer running WinXP SP2. The motherboard is a PC-Chips M840LR with the SiS 740 chipset (integrated AGP graphics disabled) using the latest SiS drivers. I have 1 GB RAM. I also just installed an Apollo Nvidia 5200 FX 128 MB PCI graphics board--the only PCI-based FX 5200 card I could find with no noisy fan. I'm using the latest video Nvidia drivers--84.21.
I set up the capture device as the PVR-150 in config. I'm using the system default codecs, though I've fooled with those settings also. I have tried overlay, vmr-9 and vmr-7 modes in config. All exhibit the same freezing behavior.
When I start LiveTV, GBPVR freezes the mouse cursor and displays a single image in the window. The system completely locks up and requires using the reset switch to reboot.
Moreover, this freezing behavior isn't specific to just GB-PVR. Windows Media Player and all other video players lock up. However DirectX diagnostics (dxdiag) tests out just fine. However, when I disable all hardware acceleration from dxdiag, MPG2 and all other video works fine. I also tried updating to the latest directx 9.0c drivers from MS. No change in the behavior.
Thinking it might be related to the years of codecs and drivers I had accumulated on the old XP system, I tried a fresh install of Windows XP SP1 on a spare hard drive. At first I installed only the Nvidia display drivers from Microsoft (WHQL certified, dated October 2003). At this point, MPG2 files played normally in Windows Media Player. I then installed the WinTV package, and the directx drivers 9.0b supplied therein. Unfortunately, GB-PVR, Hauppauge's WinTV and Windows Media player all still lock up the computer even in the clean install.
I then upgraded the clean install to the latest hardware drivers, decoders, and software on the Hauppauge website, including trying the new beta hardware driver. All programs continue to freeze.
However, I discovered that with Hauppauge's urility "primary.exe" set to the (fugly) modes of primary or DIB Draw, I can get Hauppauge's WinTV to work. No overlay or vmr 7/9 setting works. Oddly enough, forcing primary seems to allow Windows Media Player to work again as well. However, GB-PVR continues to crash--possibly because it always uses some form of overlay mode?!?
This seems odd as the Nvidia fx 5200 supposedly supports VMR9 overlay and DirectX 9. It is only a PCI card, as I have an old motherboard with no AGP slot.
(Interestingly, when I run it using the SiS integrated AGP display adapter on my existing XP system, GBPVR does work if in overlay mode only. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on the secondary display with the Nvidia FX 5200 video card--moving the window there causes the freezing behavior.)
Last, I reinstalled the latest Nvidia drivers (84.21) and then the latest MS 9.0c directx drivers (dec2005) on the clean install of windows SP1. Still crashes, even in GBPVR's overlay mode.
Obviously I want GBPVR to work on the new FX 5200 video card because it has the TV-out. Unfortunately I am beginning to conclude that despite claiming to support DirectX 9 and VMR 9, the PCI version I have of the FX 5200 doesn't.
Is that what it sounds like to you all? Has anyone had any luck with GBPVR on a PCI version of the FX 5200?
(I can attach a dxdiag output file, log files or whatever would help.)
thanks
tim
PS--I'm planning to install KnoppMyth to double check whether it is a hardware problem, even though I prefer GBPVR. MediaPortal works like molasses on my system.
The above plugin crashes on my machine when playing a .wpl playlist generated from WMP10. It is OK on MVP. though. The error is "Error: Exception Result" plus, probably, an addr. It gets overlaid too quickly to read the last bit. The overlay is a black rectangle with the wmp mini control panel at the bottom.
It works fine on my mate's machine with a new install so it must be something peculiar to my setup. Perhaps someone may have fixed a similar problem??
I am going to Qatar in a month or so for a long time. I belive Qatar is part of Asia I think they use the PAL standard. I want to purchase a USB tuner before I leave. Where's the best place to buy a pal tuner online?
Ok, I am one step away from having GB-PVR up and running perfectly. The one problem I have not been able tackle is the following: When I press the "skip" button while watching video I recorded, the video starts to ghost and loose its integrity. The only way to fix this is start the video over from the beginning and not press the skip button. (this means I actually have to watch every last second of the recording.) I researched this via this forum and found it may be a quartz.dll problem however I replaced this file with an earlier version and this did not seem to help my situation. If anyone could shed some light on this annoying matter I would greatly appreciate it! My system configurations to follow:
P4 2.4
2 SATA 120 gig HD (raid 1 configuration)
Nvidia purevideo decoder
ATI Radeon 9000 AGP
512 DDR
Haup 500 MCE
I'm trying to install the External Recorder Plugin and, it being my first plugin (am I blushing?), I find the direction a little sparse. I *think* I've put it in the proper place (c:\program files\devex\gbpvr) but it doesn't seem to appear on the plugin tab of config. Now, it does appear on the... capture source(?) tab so, is that correct? Just curious.
Greetings,
Is anyone currently using an Xcard as a hardware mpeg/divx decoder but rather than using the tv output of the xcard - pumping the data back into the overlay of the primary video card via the VIP port.
This gives the cpu advantage of the xcard and its attendant mpeg decoding, but is still able to preserve the access to the windows desktop and normal (more than 256 colour) menu system.
I have had this working with Meedio but due to the sever lack of other features required and the seeming stalled development took it no further down that route.
My attempts so far seem to cause spontaneous reboots -
I can run the select the xcard as the decoder and this works - however the overlay on screen does not appear to be enabled -rather saying the tv out is out the xcard.
When i try to run the system in software decoder mode and allow quartz.dll to do the redirect of the stream to the xcard in the hope that the overlay will be available - I get a reboot.
Has anyone else attempted this in any way shape or form ?
Any success ?
I like GBPVR and would like to use it as the only program to play my viedos and dvds and record tv.
How ever I can only get it to play and record tv. Here it is one of the best programs around, my compliments.
It's also fine to play divx, xvid no problems here.
But when I want to play a dvd, guess what ?, no sound. I have tried most dvd decoders Like windvd (intervideo) powerdvd
When I play the dvd's directly in windvd or power dvd everything is ok, but through the gbpvr only picture and no sound.
I have tried every possible setting in the DVD tab and nothing seems to work. Am I missing something or does i just not work?
I've purchased and installed a WINTV-PVR-150, and installed all of its software. I then installed GBPVR. I have entered "Start Config" and under "Capture Source" I've added a capture source. I've called it PVR150. The recording device is set to "Direct Recording Plugin" and under settings says "Hauppauge PVR150" for Capture Card Type, I check Only show devices detected on this machine, country USA, Board Number Capture Device #1, Source Internal Tuner, Tuning Cable.
My EPG Source is Zap2it, and I signed up, then updated EPG, and it added tuns of stuff. I don't know what to do about Channel Changer (at this point it says No Channel Changer Required). When I go to do anything, say "Watch Live TV", it tells me No channels have been set up. Please run the Configuration utitility and setup the EPG source. Use the 'Update EPG' button to force the system to import the latest set of channel and programme information.
I've been looking around and was wondering if there is such an animal as EPG here in Sweden, I don't want to finish building my PVR if I won't be able to get channel listings. And if there is something here, do I have to pay a monthly fee, because that is the reason I didn't want a Tivo. Anyone?
