Hello, can anyone explain me why when I use GBPVR video library to play DVDs stored on my hard drive (video_ts folders) the soundtrack volume is loud while the actors voice can hardly be heard?
I've encountered this issue on all my stored DVDs (I haven't tried playing a DVD loaded on the DVD-ROM drive). I have a feeling GBPVR is only playing some of the 5.1 audio tracks. If I launch WinDVD and use it to load the very same video_ts folders, audio and video playback is perfect.
I've tried changing DVD Audio and Video Renderer settings but with no success.
I picked up a 997MHz Pentium III (yeah, not really that fast) to drop in to a box which currently has a Celeron 500 or something in it.
I'm sure I've done this in the past without problems but XP won't even safe boot with the new chip (gets to mup.sys and hangs). Everything works fine with the old chip.
Do I really have to install XP again with the new chip installed?
I tried reloading the BIOS defaults without luck...
Hi
Currently there doesn't seem to be a pvr application that is accessible to Blind computer users. I'm currently on a quest to find such an application. As gbpvr is written in .net it hopefully wouldn't be too dificult to provide the support for screen readers such as jaws. .net has support for Microsoft Active Accessibility built into the standard controls.
Areas in gbpvr such as the config are already accessible. Unfortunately the main interface doesn't speak at all. If you were to download a demo copy of jaws For Windows from http://www.freedomscientific.com and then just try to up and down arrow in the main interface of gbpvr, it would be expected that jaws would announce each option.
If the developer of gbpvr is interested in making gbpvr accesssible, please let me know as I am very willing to provide any information or testing required.
In an effort to resolve the overlapping programmes in the EPG, I switched from xmltv update to try the DVB EPG. (What a mare that process is with 3 tuners!)
The problem that I have is that there are some channels that just simply refuse to update and fill in any EPG data even though it is broadcast.
What I have found is that when I scroll down the EPG, if say I stop with a blank channel row at the top, I can't scroll back up again because there's nothing in the listing for gbpvr to scroll up to.
Similar problems if there's a blank at the top and a blank at the bottom, it just duplicates the bottom row over and over again when trying to scroll down.
Using SSH to secure your network means that instead of having many open ports to the internet to which attackers can come in, you have one, secured, port. From this one port you can set up what's called a tunnel, to other ports, LAN based machines and even to internet based services.
For example, my machines at home a running behind a router, on that router you could open up any port 2222, for example (22 is the SSH standard port, you can use this, but why let script kiddies know you're there??).
On the router set up your port 2222 to forward to a local machine on your network - caled computer1 on port 22.
Then from outside you network (anywhere with an internet connection) and using a terminal client like putty, you can connect to you internet IP address and port 2222 to be connected to computer1 on port 22 inside your local network.
Now this is just the start.
Once that is verified you can set set up a tunnel.
Inside putty, in the connection options there is an option for tunnels. We're going to set up a tunnel to the GBPVR Enhanced web admin residing on computer1. In this case the machine with the SSH server.
In putty, under tunnels you will create a new tunnel with your source port 7467 and destination set to localhost:7647
That's pretty much it. Now from the internet, start your putty session, Once connected start up your browser and point it to http://localhost:7647/gbpvr/logon.aspx this is transmitted down the putty session and pops out the other side and is directed to the localhost:7647 inside your home network...neat huh???
For multiple machines you just change the destinaion port of the putty tunnel to be machine:port. This will make the transmission got down into the tunnel and pop out the other side then from the ssh server machine it will be transmitted on the local network to machine:port just like your were on the local LAN.
Here is a link I've always followed for setting up an SSH server of one of my windows machines.
I hope I made that easy enough to follow. The URL above has a bit more on tunnelling, I've successfully had pop3, GBPVR EWA, RealVNC, Ca Unicenter Remote Control, various other websites all working the same way.
You just need to make sure that on the machine out in the internet that the port you set up in putty is not being used, since to go down in the tunnel is is always a connection to localhost.
Well I could zip the log files but at the moment I'm watching Dirty Jobs.
Well anyways I'm having problems, some with timshift mode, and others watching recorded shows...
My Setup:
Gigabyte Model is 6a something....
P3 1ghz
Chipset driver: Via 4.43 Allin1
BFG 5700 Ultra Drivers: 81.98 *have tried 84.XX drivers*
512MB pc133 sdram
256MB pc133 sdram
256MB pc133 sdram
1 gig total
3 Hard-drives:
2 Maxtor *1 runs hot*
1 Western Digital *runs hot*
All 40Gigs
1 Maxtor and WD is in a dynamic Stripped volume set.
1 sound card
1 network card
Tuners:
Asus Tv7133
Using software recored plugin and using the vmr9 with custom render.
Software:
Running Windows Xp Pro with SP2
The Problem:
Well When I Tried DualView Mode on my 5700 Ultra, one connection went to my 15" monitor, and my other one went to my 20" Television with a Svideo to Rca connection type.. Well the Tv stutters, but not my 15". It only worked fine in overlay on the tv. If I change the resoultion while gb-pvr running in live tv, the stuttering is gone. but when I change channels the stuttering is back and stays. *That was with Vmr9/7*
I've fixed this by switching from DualView to Clone Mode that fixed the issue, but I would like this resolve in the next release.
Second Problem:
My Gb-PVR is freezing up.. Well after awhile in timeshift mode or watching recorded shows, it seems like gb-pvr decides to freeze up. When in timeshift mode, if gb-pvr freezes up and sometimes the sound continues. I have to Alt-Ctrl-Del to get back to windows. I've also noticed that the recording continues.
When watching recorded shows, it doesn't matter what time or how long a show/movie is. What I mean is that I could watch a 2 hour movie fine but when I watch a 30 min show gbpvr will freeze up. *And it just froze up as I write this..* Well This time it was 26mins into the 1 hour show, I was watching Deal or No Deal about 30 mins ago, and it did the samething. after I restarted gbpvr, it did IT within 5 mins... Not only that gbpvr will respond to the mouse and then totally lockup as in OSD going up and freezing but the timer still going don't know why that is...
It keeps doing this alot.. I doubt its hardware because it can playback fine, record fine *tv guide select* and watch Live Tv *in clone view, when it was in dualview it froze up alot like almost every 5-15 minutes*
It doesn't crash the machine tho...
So I'm going to attach the logs now since it fresh..
well I wasn't sure what you were looking for. So I just ran a search for .log in my gbpvr folder..
hopefully someone can help me...
I found GB-PVR last weekend, after trying some of the other frontdends and I must say, that for me as newbie at these things it is really PERFECT !
So first of all: Thanks for the good work.
But as always with newbies there are still some questions left.
Some of my questions where answered by the forum and some things I found at Google, but now it's your turn.
I use GB-PVR on a DELL Dimension 8300 with a Hauppauge PVR 350, a NVIDIA 5200 FX Graphic-Card and a SB Audigy 2 Sound-Card.
The TV is plugged into the NVidia and the line out of the PVR is plugged into line-in of the Audigy.
So far anything works fine ... but now the questions.
1. I could not get the fm-radio to find any stations.
The GB-PVR starts a search but NO station is found.
Are there any settings to do for the fm-radio ?
2. The cd-player-plugin starts its work, finds the
tracks on the cd ... finds the cddb data, starts
playing (I see title and the time of the track is
running), but i hear nothing !
Trying the same under Winamp (without GB-PVR running)
anything is OK and I hear the sound from the CD.
What to do with this problem ?
3. I read that it would be useful to use a second
TV-Card for the EPG.
I have a Studio TV Terminator 7131 here that I could
use for that but it is not supported by GB-PVR.
Is it possible to use this card for EPG without
implementing it in GB-PVR (standalone) ??
4. When using FF (fast-forward) in time-shift-mode
I loose the sound of the TV and it won't come back.
Is that a known problem or can I solve it ?
I think this is all (it's enough, isn't it ?)
If you can help please don't hesitate to write down all you know about these things, because I'm really a FAN of GB-PVR and I want to use it !!!
