I have been using gbpvr for a while and I now have 3 MediaMVP boxes at home. I love this system! I have a background in VB6 programming so I can't resist the desire to write a plug in.
I have an external XM Sat radio tuner that hooks to my computer. I would like to write a little plugin that allows me to play XM Radio on my MVP. Here's the functionality I would like:
Main Plug In Screen: List of XM channels read from a XML file. Each channel is a button.
When Channel button is clicked: command is called that changes External XM tuner to the given channel. I have a command line (Perl) program that changes the channel so I just have to call a command line program and pass it the channel number. Something like "C:\XMPerlTuner\XMPerlTuner.pl 004"
After the command is called I would like the plugin to stream the audio from the PCs audio in port out to the MVP.
After streaming starts the plug in should run a routine (already written) that queries the XM tuner and returns Artist and Song info in plain text. The plugin should show the text on the screen and refresh the info every 5 seconds.
The part that has me feeling dumb is the simple sounding part of streaming the audio from the PCs audio in on the sound card out to the MVP. Does anyone have an example of how to do this? Any help with the rest of the design would also be much appreciated as I am moving very slowly up the learning curve.
For those who are interested, I am using an analog DirectPCR from PowerOnDude as an XM tuner. This allows me to tune into the sat version of XM, not the streaming internet based version... thus better quality.
You may want to add some text to help people with the Zap2it configuration, as this was one of the trickier parts of my installation. For example, you might say:
In order to properly connect to Zap2it, make sure you have an exception set in your firewall and in your anti-virus software. Users of McAfee VirusScan may need to disable the on-access scanner in order to receive Zap2it data.
I'm trying to reconfigure GBPVR because for some reason the config.xml i backed up got deleted during (?) installation of the new version. Anyway, in the channelchanger section, i'm not sure which option to use if i'm using the hauppauge150 (NOT mce) remote. Any help is appreciated.
I am having a problem with the sound in Live TV mode. The video is fine, but all I hear is static.
The rest of the GB-PVR installation went well. I have sound for DVDs, net radio, and video clips stored on my computer, all played through GB-PVR. However, when I watch or record live TV, all I get is static.
I am confident that this is not a problem with my satellite feed. If I run the satellite cable directly from the DirecTV box to the TV, the sound is fine. I can also get sound perfectly if I use the WinTV2000 software that came with my Hauppauge PVR-150 card to watch live TV instead of using GB-PVR.
I installed v0.95.16 yesterday and came across the sound problem, uninstalled it, and reinstalled v0.96.08 today. The problem is still there.
I have removed all mpeg decoders on my machine except for the InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder, which was shipped with the PVR150. I also removed all Nero software that came with the dvd drive after encountering this problem.
FYI, Windows XP is being used as the OS. Audio on my computer is coming from the integrated sound card on the motherboard.
My four most recent native.log files are attached. I tried all four audio renderer options available, with no luck.
Any suggestions for how to get this audio problem fixed would be greatly appreciated.
I am using 'Auto Convert MPG recording to: WMV' so that I can stream them via Windows Media Services. However there appears to be no option to choose a Media Profile other than the system defaults.
I have looked in the config files for a entry I can manually change but to no avail. Is there a way I can choose my own profiles (eg one that comes with Windows Media Encoder)?
Just got my hands on a new system. It is a P4 2.4 with one gig of ram running WIN XP PRO and a PVR 150MCE.
All seems to be installed ok but the hauppauge decoder. I have tried to install the latest one from the hauppage page a few times but all I get is the hauppage splash screen come up for a second and then close. I am running the sonic decoders now but I would liike to install the hauppauge ones as well. Has any one else run in to this problem?
Hello, I've recently started using GB-PVR and id like to state how much i like the product, especially knowing thats its free. I'm very grateful to sub and other gbpvr team members if any.
Now... there's a show that I want to record. I made a recurring manual recording so that everyday at 18h 'til 18h30, it records the show.
But now what is happening is that *everyday* gbpvr seems to delete the entry for the recording scheduled for today.
that means, when i go in "recordings" -> "pending" i can effectively all the incoming recordings for the shows *except* the one due for today. so, when the show is on air, there's no recording being made.
so i manually start the recording and hope that the next day it doesnt do that, but it always does...
I'd like to state that I've found a workaround to that, I just go in the TV schedule, select the show and record all season, this channel, this daily slot. (which is probably what i should be doing from the start)
Still, I was intrigued whether it was really me who wasnt programming the recording properly or if it was gbpvr making fun of me. So i tried several times to create a manual recording, the actual settings were always the same :
Channel : 5
Time : 18 - 18:30
Recurrence : Monday-Friday, daily timeslot
quality medium
keep : all episodes
everytime, i had the same results.

Forgive me, im at work with no access to gbpvr so i dont remember the exact names of everything, I hope I've managed to still be clear enough.
A thought on a possible changes to the enhanced web interface.
When I use the web interface I get "stuttering" of the active Live TV display and audio. This occurs with a database size as small as 10MB and becomes more pronounced as the DB size grow. Thus I attribute it to the time the web interface takes to search the database for display data.
Every time the user goes back to functions like TV Guide, Manage Recording, etc, the display is recreated resulting in more load on the host and the database. How about simply "show/hide" the existing display once it's created rather than keep recreating it? For example selecting "Episode Search" would simply "hide" the active guide window. Reselecting TV Guide would "unhide" the guide window. Certainly in the case of the TV Guide things aren't going to have changed every time the display is used. If the user thinks there has been a change they can always refresh the display. I've used this technique on a number of web interface displays to save regenerating the display each time the user switches context; in my case not so much to save database load but to save the time to retransmit lengthy relatively static displays.
Right now I have GBPVR on the PC in the office and a MVP in the livingroom for the TV. I've recorded and watched shows and it runs nicely.
Since our house is wired with cat5e in every room, my ultimate set up would be a MVP for each room with a TV. With the right set up could we watch and record TV in every room via the MVPs and get rid of all cable set top boxes except the one feeding the PC with digital/premium channels and On Demand with iCONTROL?
All the cat5e and cable coax lines from each room go to a âboxâ in the office closet. The main cable line coming into the house is fed into a splitter which feeds all the other rooms in the house including the PC room. Can I insert a cable set top box into this mix by having the main cable line go to the cable set top box, then a cable line from the box to the cable splitter, thereby feeding digital/premium channels to all the rooms including the PVR-150 card in the PC? I'm only going to use 1 TV-tuner for now (PVR-150), but if this works, may consider another.
How would I manage changing channels?
If this will work, since I don't know much about tech gear or electronics I need someone to guide me through the steps, connections, and configurations if possible.
