NEW DAYLIGHT SAVING RULES WILL AFFECT COMPUTER SYSTEMS IN 2007
Beginning in March 2007, the United States will extend Daylight Saving Time
(DST) by 4 or 5 weeks each year. Instead of "springing ahead" on the first
Sunday in April, DST will begin the second Sunday of March. And instead of
"falling back" the last Sunday of October, DST will end the first Sunday of
November. These changes were signed into law by President Bush on August 8,
2005, as part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, but have failed to attract
much attention, probably because few have considered the ramifications of
these changes on today's computer-driven industries.
Many computers, and an increasing number of "smart" devices, are designed to
automatically adjust their internal clocks for DST. The DST algorithms,
however, are based on the current DST rules and may not function properly in
March 2007. For industries in which computer time accuracy is important,
such as the financial industry and the medical device industry, it is
critical that companies take stock of how the new DST rules may affect them.
Companies are advised to conduct computer, contract, and litigation
self-examinations. These examinations may lead companies to upgrade or
replace computer systems, recall, or replace products, and enhance their
contractual protection against liability.
Consider the following questions to help gauge your organizationâs potential
exposure:
1. How does the company currently go about adjusting its system clocks for
DST?
2. Which of the company's systems automatically adjust themselves for DST?
3. Which of the company's computer and device clocks must be accurate for
our business?
4. How does the company go about upgrading and patching its computer
software?
5. What computers outside of the office do the company's systems interact
with, and what information is available about those computers?
6. Do any of the products the company produces or uses automatically adjust
for DST?
7. Can those products be upgraded, and how? When, in relation to March
2007, will be the appropriate time for those products to be upgraded or
replaced?
8. What do the company's warranties say about issues like these?
9. What do the company's contracts say about issues like these?
10. Is expanded DST good or bad for our business, and does the company want
to take any type of action in response?
I am new to PVR, new to GB-PVR and new to this forum.
I just acquired a Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2 and installation was simple and it works fine although provided s/w are limited. My intention is to shortly get an Hauppauge MediaMVP. I installed GBPVR and I am quite impressed. Congratulations for all the good work. Everything works well. I am not totally satifsfied with the live tv image quality and aspect ratio but I believe I still have to play with the settings.
That being said, I have two problems. I searched the forum for a while but can't find anything related.
1. I cannot listen TV (the recorded channel) while recording:
When I go in LiveTV while it is recording, I get the message "No tuners are available ..." and I have to choose between "Don't watch" and "Watch the program being recorded". When I select the second choice, I get a black window and it stays like that forever. Does someone has a clue what may be happening?
2. Noise when changing channel
When I watch LiveTV, there is always a sound glitch when I change channel. When I use the Hauppauge WinTV2K, channels change smoothly with no noise at all.
Finally, if I may ask, any hints on how I can enhance the liveTV image quality? The image is not as great as it is with the Hauppauge WinTV2K application.
The MCE150 has 2 tuners, one for tv one for FM...Shouldnt I be able to listen to the FM while recording from the other tuner? When I try that, I get an error saying "unable to locate available FM tuner" :confused:
I have my PC set up in another room to my TV. I have an STB that accepts UDP streams and can play them on the TV. I can send UDP streams from GB-PVR on my TV (such as videos, live TV, etc). But can I send the GB-PVR *UI* as a stream to my STB? Is this an existing feature that I have just missed?
The idea is to have the PC completely separate, stream the UI (and everything really) to the TV and have a remote control extender to send commands back to the PC. Is this possible?
I've been researching the components for weeks, let me know what you think of this setup. I won't be gaming much, if it at all on this rig, just using as a HDTV/digital cable PVR, CD jukebox and DVD jukebox.

Gbpvr can see recordings in my (networked) video library fine, but my MVP cannot. Is it something I am missing or is it even possible for the MVP to do such a task?
I've been using GBPVR for months now, and have been on version .95.16 since it came out. Everything's been working great (and I don't know how I ever lived iwthout it - thanks Sub!) However, EPG updates have suddenly stopped working within the last week or so.
Nothing's changed on my PC. Honest.
I am in the US, and using Zap2it. I've verified that my account there is still active - I can log in via their website, and it tells me I'm good until March 17. Channel lineups etc are all fine as well.
If I try to update the EPG through Config, I get the following message:
"Your EPG source does not appear to be configured correctly. Please check the EPG source settings and try again." The settings appear to be OK.
I've tried deleting and rebuilding the capture source, but still get the same results.

The "Unauthorized" would seem to indicate a problem with the account credentials, but as I mentioned I can log in with them at the Zap2it website with no problems.
Any suggestions much appreciated! (My wife, having viewed my initial efforts to get a PVR up and working with much skepticism, & having finally been won over by this software & its ability to ensure she never misses another episode of Oprah or American Idol, is now starting to turn against us - pls help!)
I record a channel named ROBTV and it has a ticker plus banner on the right side that is constantly on. So, you have a feature to eliminate the ticker but I still have a banner on the right. So I was wondering if you could also have an option to not include a set of pixels on the right side.
