Since upgrading to the latest release, EPG update (whether scheduled or manually initiated) isn't working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled GPVR from scratch and can reproduce the problem.

This is not a complaint/rant/moan, just a concern. I finished watching a downloaded xVid this eneving and was randomly flicking through folders containing my video files when I noticed that my "Recorded TV" folder was emtpy. This folder had contained about 20 *.mpg files that had been converted from MCE2005 DVR-MS files over the course of the last year or so.

I immediately fired up Winternals FileRestore and luckily managed to salvage about 80% of the files as my H:\ isn't used for much else other than video storage so the data hadn't been properly overwritten.

In FileRestore the deletion date/time for every recoding was exactly the same - 07/01/06 19:26. When I informed the Mrs of this she accessed that part of the female brain that stores these things and said "We were watching season 2 of lost on your streamy box thing, that night it kept freezing".

What she meant, of course, was that we were watching lost (xVid) on the MVP using GB-PVR and it happened to be giving me a whole load of shlt due to me trying to fast-forward back to the bit where it had frozen up.

I have checked my GBPVR.exe log files, but as my luck would typically have it, the very furthest they go back is about 20 mins after doomsday. In the GBPVR configuration utility I noticed that my "Recordings Directory" was set to H:\Recorded TV. This was done when I very first installed it, not knowing I wouldn't be using for any recording, just playback.

Is it possible that GB-PVR nuked its "Recordings Directory" due to some sort of 'episode' when that xVid file killed it? I find it more than a little suspicious that the deltetion occured while using GB-PVR and on a night when it was mis-behaving. I have changed the "Recordings Directory" to something else now as a precaution but hope that reporting this will mean the bug is squished before anyone else loses any files.

Just to re-iterate, I am not moaning or trying to place blame anywhere, I love GB-PVR and appreciate all the hard work that sub has put into it.

I am looking for people that would like to help test a new EPG search plug-in. It is optimized to allow quick text entry via the remote. For example, typing 234 will match any entries that contain any of 2abcáâãäåæ for the first character, any of 3defèéêë for the second character, and any of 4ghiìíîï for the third character. In my EPG this matches words like Behind, Behaving, Begins, etc. In this way it is very quick to spell any word using just the remote. You can, of course, also type in letters if you have a keyboard.

The search can be based off of the entry name or the entry description.

The text matching can be restricted to text that start with the search text, for entries that have any word that starts with the search text, or for entries that contain the search text embedded anywhere in any word.

The search can be across the entire EPG or filtered based on the unique ID prefix to just search movies, sports, episodes, or shows.

The results list includes indications if the show is already scheduled, scheduled but in conflict, or a duplicate of a previously recorded show. All of these are skinnable. In the screen shot below, duplicates are indicated by a red circle with a D, currently scheduled items with a blue circle with a S and conflicts (of which there are none_ with a red cross. This makes it very easy when you are searching the schedule to see if you have already recorded the given entry.

As a word of warning, the plug-in does some direct writes to the database, so if you are interested in testing you should either backup your database now and again or be aware that there may be bugs that could cause problems with scheduled recording. I have been using the plug-in for many months on my own without problem, but I have fairly simple scheduling habits and have not really out it through its paces.

Okay here's the deal. At the moment I've got a Hauppauge Nova-T which while being pretty good doesn't do hardware mpeg2 decoding (doh of course it does as its a dvb card, me silly) My picture is pretty blocky sometimes especially if there's large areas of the same dark colour on screen! And also get the occassional juddering, no picture when changing channels etc! As you can see from my sig my specs are quite reasonable! I'm using Intervideo's WindDVD 7 codecs with hardware acceleration turned on. Is the poor picture to be expected with my card and if so will it improve with a Hauppauge HVR 1300 or can someone recommend anything else?

Well i finally put my PVR together today and being the idiot i am just realized there is no way to hook the pvr 150 up to a TV i would have had to get the 350. I just wanted to ask you guys before i beat myself up about this if there is any way to hook it up to a TV. MY video card is a 9800pro too if that makes a difference

I'd like to set up XRecord to not schedule/record any programs once it has reached a limit of (x) number of recordings. For example, if I have 5 Law and Order's recorded, can I get XRecord to not record any more even if they're scheduled?

Just before christmas I mentioned in a post that was going to provide guidelines for developing plugins. As part of this, I want to address a couple of common problems, by implementing a few minor changes.

I’m trying to minimize disruptions to existing plugins, so the changes I propose allow for compatibility with the existing methods.

I've not got too much time I can commit to this, so appologize if this doesnt go as far as some might hope...providing an ultimately flexible perfect skinning engine could be a project by itself, let alone trying to implement the other GB-PVR features and provide user support at the same time. :eek:

Anyway, two initial changes I'm looking at are:

1) Using the default skin.xml files
A common cause of problems is using a plugin with a skin that does not explicitly provide support for that plugin. This problem occurs because the plugin is expecting to find its supporting skin files (skin.xml and image files etc), but they are not contained with in the active skin.

I’m proposing a change will take advantage of the fact that all plugins support the default (blue) skin. I’m intending to change the SkinHelper to automatically fall back to using these resource files in the default skin if they’re not available in the active skin.

This change will only affect things explicitly defined in the plugin’s skin xml file(s). Things that are inherited from the BaseSkin.xml will continue to be loaded from the active skin. This means that buttons will still have the correct appearance for the current skin, and the background image will be correct.

I intend to implement support for this functionality through the use of an additional constructor to SkinHelper. The existing constructor to SkinHelper did not provide all the information that would be required to implement this.

To use this new functionality, the plugin developer would create a SkinHelper instance using:

Behind the scenes the skin helper will determine the correct path and load the XML file. If the XML file cannot be found in the active skin directory, it’ll fall back to using the default one in the blue directory.


ISettings
I’m adding a new interface called ISettings which plugins should implement. It is being added for two main purposes.

1) The first of these reasons is to provide a mechanism for dynamically changing the skin without restarting the application. GB-PVR will call the plugin’s ISettings.Reload() method when the plugin needs to reload there settings. In response to this, the plugin should reinitialize their SkinHelper instance, and reload and settings it requires.

2) This new ISettings interface will also be used to allow settings to be changed directly within the application, rather than having to use the Config app. Using this interface, plugins will expose a list of settings they support, each with a name, type, and their current values. A likely list of types includes:
• String, free text
• String, select from plugin specified list
• Boolean
• Number, with minimum and maximum values

To use this new settings information, there will be a new system configuration screen within GB-PVR. It’ll allow the user to view the list of plugins with settings. On selecting a plugin the user will see a list of settings the plugin supports and the current values, which were obtained by GB-PVR calling ISettings.getAllSettings(). On selecting a setting, the user will be able to edit the setting (using a screen based on the setting type). If the user changes the value, ISettings.setSetting(…) will be called.

I just got my PVR-150 installed. From searching the forums I understand that the MVP always uses TimeShift Mode. I was just wondering if while watching tv through the MVP and then I shut off the tv but don't back out to the menu in GBPVR will the recording function keep going until I either run out of harddrive space or come back later and stop it? Also do all those video files created each time I turn the channel have to be manually delelted?

I believe this would go here (plugin support).
Ok after a few hours of searching the net i have found no installation instructions for xmltv, or for a windows version. I have found instructions for installing it for use with other programs tho...

First thing i notise is there is no grab_na in the win32 which im suppose to use? but there is in the non a-win32 one.
Only openable or useable at the time files are notepads and the 1 program exe file in the a-win32 download file.
Which when clicked flashes some words so fast and shuts off i cant see.. ( i tried to copy my screen to read it but no use lol....
So im looking for someone to redirect me to support or installation step instructions for xmltv so i can get it setup for gb-pvr.
As of right now i cant even get the xmltv setup so i can enter in my areas tv info! Thanks -
