Hi all. I'm new to all of this PVR stuff, so I hope you'll suffer my ignorance.
I have Windows XP, and I want gbpvr to run well, and I want a remote that works well enough that my wife can pretend that there isn't a computer running the TV.
I first bought a Sapphire ATI Theatre 550 card, which seems to work well (and only cost $100 CAD). I haven't been able to get the remote to work very well (if you set gbpvr to think the remote is an MCE remote it sortof works)... but I need it to be better.
I'd never heard of Hauppage before, but it seems like everybody in the PVR community knows them well. I could take my 550 back and get a WinTV PVR 250. This would come with a remote that I think would work perfect. What about the tv quality though? Better? Worse? Also; it is almost double the price of my ATI 550.
I'm really lost in all of this; at the end of the day, all I really want is a gbpvr setup that is robust and easy to use. I have had problems so far like:
- pressing the wrong button on the remote causes me to lose audio, and I can't get the audio back without leaving the video and coming back.
- sometimes things get goofed up and I try to watch TV and I only get a black screen
- sometimes things get goofed up and I try to watch a video and it opens in a window instead of full screen, frozen on the first frame, the audio track maybe keeps going... I have to force-quit gbpvr.
I don't want problems like this My wife has to be able to use the system comfortably, or I have failed.
I realize this post is a little scattered, but can anyone help?
I tried updating the EPG and it still did not go beyond Monday. I have it setup for 8 days. So I"m not sure what is going on. Has anyone else been experiencing this problem? Is there another thread on this issue? Maybe it is zap2it?
Hi there, trying to set up my first pvr. i will run you through my plans and you guys let me know if their is a better/cheaper way to set this up.
I have a AMD 2000XP with a Hauppage PVR 250
As a student i am somewhat on a budget
i wish to connect my PC upstairs to the NTL Cable TV downstairs and access the PVR features from the downstairs TV.
I plan to do this by connecting a DigiSender (from argos) via scart the NTL cable box downstair. this will send the signal upstairs to another Digisender by the computer which will then connect to my PVR Card (although i will have to convert the scart to svideo). The Computer is running GBPVR and the output is transmitted via the network to a MediaMVP by the TV.
The transmitter also allows IR signals to be transmitted and as it is a moden Samsung STB i asume i will only need an IR blaster upstairs by the computer.
Will this work?
Is there an easier or cheaper way?
After i learned about the software a little bit, i tried to use some skins. I readed all the readme's delivered by the skins (from the old and the new wikipedia).
The Problem is: If i choose @ config a skin the previe will mostly be displayed (some skins makes an error @ preview), but every other skin, than the default "blue" let's GB-PVR not start!
I choose a skin, klick ok and try to start GB-PVR -> nothing happens, the Software will not start.
Normally i would think, that this is a Problem @ Skin, but in this case... no Skin is working?
The Files are all copied into the right folders, the preview is working... only the skin itself not.
I tried to change the default skin "blue" (other Wallpaper, other directon and size of buttons, RSS and something) -> no Problem, this works fine.
I have a little Problem, i don't know if it were since i started @ GB-PVR. Also... i looked a recorded Movie and wanted to make a fast forward at the remote. No Problems, the Movie runs faster. Then i tried to rewind the Movie... -> No reaction; the picture is only stuttering.
I use the MPEG-2 Software Decoder from Intervideo WinDVD 4, which i have installed on my HTPC.
Could it be a Decoder Problem in combination with GB-PVR?
Well i have a WinTV-PVR 150 w/ Remote... i installed the drivers and ran the tuning assistant with GB-PVR and saw all my cable channels. When i went to configure i was completely lost... messing around trying to get it to work... so now that i am dumbfounded on what to do, i was hoping some one could help me out. thanks
I might have misunderstood this but it seems that the F7 - aspect ratio function is just about the only one we can't access via the remote, unless we program IRremote.ini or use girder or other workarounds.
I use GBPVR native remote input and it works perfectly except I don't have the option to learn a remote signal for aspect ratio.
So I've just received a notice from my cable company that they are rearranging the channel assignments and also adding new channels to my lineup. This change will be taking place on October 8th. Assuming Zap2It is keen on the changes, how will GB-PVR handle the change? Will my EPG downloads be completely destroyed or will the transition be seamless?
