My objective is to be able to use PVR functionality with a TV, and I'm trying to fully understand what components I need and how to connect the PC and TV.
I have an IBM Netvista 1 Ghz PC with 512 MB and a 30 GB hard drive. I'm planning to use GB-PVR. I'm going to have this PC connected to my home network (802.11b) for internet access. I'm assuming I need this in order to obtain programming guides and download music, but I need to have this confirmed.
I'd like to use my free-to-air satellite as a source, and a WinTV PVR 350 card. I'm favoring this card because of its TV out feature. Are there any compatability issues with this plan? Are there other cards with this feature that I should consider?
I'm thinking I need to install the TV card, connect the source, install GB-PVR, connect the card to the TV and learn how to operate the GB-PVR system. Am I looking at this process too simply?
I've only been researching this for the past week, and I can't find any diagrams that show how this all links together. I want to know more before purchasing the TV card. I'd also like to know other options I should consider in order to obtain the desired functionality. I'm sure I will eventually want to burn DVDs and play mp3s.
Also, are the remotes that come with the different cards compatible with GB-PVR or do I need something else. I don't want to use a keyboard and mouse.
Bottom line is: I need a tutorial for do-it-yourself PVR. I'm sure this basic information is on the site, but I haven't quite figured out how to find it. If someone could direct me, I'd be most appreciative. Thanks.
I'm not sure what is causing the problem, but when ever I start to record a show I get a fatal error dealing with GBPVRRecordingService. I have just started using GB PVR so I'm not sure if I just need to set something up. I'm using the PVR150. Software is great, and that is really the only problem I'm having.
Just as a test I set something to record last night. When I woke up I had the error up on my computer and 5 hours of recorded video (on a 1 hr set recording) in my dir.
I'll post the specific error when I get back home and can type it word for word. Just wonding if anyone had any ideas. Thanks.

maybe someone can have a look at my tvguide.xml file. when i open it with
a text editor everything seems to be ok, but when open it in gbpvr the most
programs are not at the correct place ...
When a show is scheduled does it get allocated to an available card just before the show starts? Or is a card allocated at the time of selecting a show for record?
Not complaining just trying to understand how it works. On the odd ocaision I have not been able to record a show on "quick record" becuase of a conflict. It goes a lighter red colour in the guide and indicates a conflict. If I delete the 2 shows (scheduled and quick record) then I can add them both in ok. Again not complaining its a minor thing and the workaround is quick and simple. I am just curious.

My pc goes now after 20 min inactivity into the standby (S3).
This works very well, i can him reactivate via powerbutton and
everything is fine and working again ...
If i create a scheduled task, which should wake up the pc aswell,
the pc waked up, but i have not picture on monitor and the WLAN
(DLink PCI Card) is not running.
I get my EPG data via WebEPG and when the WLAN Card is not working,
i get no EPG data
GB-PVR is running fine aswell, the pc waked upon the sheduled recording,
recorded it to harddrive and gone to sleep after done work. But here
again no picture on monitor and the WLAN Card is not working.
I have no Idea whats going on there, maybe one of U have the answer

Able to record scheduled programs and have channel change. Does not record proper program following awakening from hibernate due to lack of channel change. Any ideas?
First of all, XRecord is a great plug-in, arranging similar shows under one poster is brilliant. My question is actually, is it possible to arrange the listings with the last recorded on top rather than at the bottom, this way when I choose a recording, I always start with latest one instead of traversing to the last of the list.
On a different note, why is there no Watch button in the XGuide similar to the standard TV guide so that I can immediately watch a show without recording it.
When viewing a video in timeshift mode the picture is distorted with horizontal lines across the screen, but the audio is OK. After the same show has finished recording it can be viewed perectly. Any ideas?
I've been lurking on and off for a few weeks now and I feel I have seen this problem alluded to but with no solutions posted.
I'm running GBPVR on WinXP, using a Hauppauge 150 card and an Nvidia 5200fx (128mb) card for s-video output, all on an Athlon 1.8ghz Machspeed motherboard with 512mb RAM.
The details are as follows: after a scheduled or a manual recording, the Hauppauge remote control stops responding. Specifically, when trying to change channels, the little black box with the remote's input appears on the screen, but the information is not sent to my Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2100 cable box (Time Warner NYC), and the channel does not change. The only way to get it to work again is to close GBPVR and open it again. This makes recording back-to-back programming impossible, besides the general hassle of having to close and reopen the program after every recording.
Has anyone discovered a solution to this? A setting or patch perhaps?
