I've been using NextPVR on Windows 10 for years, and now I intend to switch completely to Linux. Of course, I would like to use NextPVR on Linux as well. I also tried other DVB solutions for Linux, but none really did what I wanted.
So I installed NextPVR on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, and with some help from this forum, I also got it working.
Unfortunately, the channel scan does not find any channels. The correct driver for my two Hauppauge WinTV-soloHD DVB devices is installed and working. The devices are correctly detected, and w_scan and kaffeine both find all DVB-T2 channels. NextPVR finds none.
It's been a while and I hope you are all well. After almost 3 years of work-hell I finally find myself at home for a while with some free time so I'm working on my honey-do list.
NextPVR updates are on that list and while I was digging into that it got me thinking. While our 9yo HP 1080T PC is still humming along as our NPVR server and family room client, it's still Win7 (with support ending next year) and I'm concerned about how much longer we should rely on it. My first HTPC (GBPVR), a Dell 9100, only lasted about 6 years running 24x7 before it went flakey, so we're about 1.5x that unit. I'm trying to be proactive, especially given I have some free time right now.
Any recommendations for a new box? I generally look for a deal, but it's such a PITA when problems occur (like "drop everything" to fix it PITA), I would be alright spending a little more on it if that improves reliability.
Honestly I've been extremely pleased with the 1080T, all I've done to it over the years was add a SSD drive for the OS (not really necessary, but I had the drive), up-sized a few of the 3.5" HDDs for increased storage capacity, and recently replaced the case fan. The 1080T seems to have all I need, an HDMI output, 4x 3.5" bays (and SATA ports), and a 5.25" bay for a Blueray DVD drive. Anything else I should be looking for in a new PC?
I'm pretty new to NextPVR and loving it, but found one issue that I haven't figured out yet. I looked in the forums, but didn't find a direct answer. Apologies if it is out there and I missed (if that is the case, please link me a previous answer).
I have a HDHomeRun with 2 tuners. Now that I have several recording schedules created, I am finding that, occasionally, three shows are scheduled at the same time. Since I only have 2 tuners, NextPVR marks one of those shows not to be recorded (shown as orange in the guide). It appears that the decision about which shows get recorded and which don't is related to the order in which I created the schedules.
I can't figure out if there is a way (and how to do it, if there is a way) to set up recording schedule priorities... is this possible?
That is, if I really want to record Show X, but just happen to have scheduled it most recently, if Show X conflicts with two other shows it will never record. I would like to tell NextPVR an order in which to consider the shows, including which is the "least important" show so that it can be skipped in case of a conflict.
Any ideas on a windows 10 batch file to escape special characters in show titles?
For instance a show title might have "&" in it. Unless this is escaped comcut truncates the title and then returns a fatal error.
For some crazy reasons I am recording TV on windows then moving them to a Ubuntu machine to be processed with Comcut. Comcut is a bash script that combines comskip and ffmpeg to remove ads.
If I had any idea what I was doing I could probably insert some code using sed into Comskip
I have a HDhomerun with MPEG4 capability. I noticed nextpvr5 stores recordings as MPEG2. I looked into the web UI and didn't see an obvious way to have my HDhomerun stream as MPEG4.
NextPVR4 does of course do this (aka service type of H.264 HD), and after some poking around i believe under the covers it's stored in the nextpvr.db3 under the channel_mapping table using a service type of 25.
Before I go about doing something silly I have a few Qs;
Can I set the service type to "H.264 HD" in nextpvr5 web UI as I can in nextpvr4? I don't think so but i want to double check.
If no, - is the schema that effects channel_mapping relatively unchanged from v4 to 5? Looks like it's the same to me. I see new tables, but things sort of look relatively similar enough.
Thus, can I "update channel_mapping set service_type = 25" in nextpvr.db3 and achieve the effect I desire?
With prior sources the Settings/Channels tab was populated with mappings for every channel offered by the source. With the latest sub, tried today, there are no mappings. I have the new source's EPG and a 3rd party EPG listed just as before and have updated the EPG. Usually under the wrench icon there is a default and alternate EPG choice. With no mappings, not certain how two EPG's are prioritized or utilized.
Is it possible if every m3u8 channel has an XMLTV EPG match that nothing would show in the Channels tab?
How would I know which channel is getting it's EPG from which EPG source?
By the way, the Channels and TvGuide are fully populated with the 3rd party EPG content so everything seems to look and work fine.
I am a new user to NextPVR (latest ver. 4) and am trying to set up a Nexcomm R5000-HD usiing the NetworkRecorder plugin. The R5000-HD is already configured and working with SageTV. I disabled SageTV and am tring to get the Network Recorder plugin working now. I can't find very detailed instructions for using the Network Recorder as it relates to the R5000. I have it configured from the NetworkRecorder wiki. When I try to tune a channel I see in the R5000 app GUI that it is opens a stream but then then I get an error that says it can't open c:\users\Public\recordings even though that directory exists on the R5000 server. I have the R5000 on the same server as NextPVR for initial testing. Spent all weekend trying to get it to work. Anyone have any thoughts on what I need to do to make this work?

Overnight I lost both ESPN and ESPN2 for some reason. They tune but all I get is a black screen and no audio. System is a small HTPC that has been running 24/7 without any major issues for the last few years.
Using an HDHR Prime 3-tuner cable card tuner. All channels subscribed channels are working fine. But not those two.
I do not think this is a NextPVR issue ..
I have the same problem when using the HDHR live view program (silicon dust's program). All channels work but not ESPN or ESPN2. Same thing .. no error but just a black screen w/no audio.
Now here is the strange thing. We also have an Xfinity (Comcast) DVR and that DOES display and record ESPN and ESPN2 just fine. So I'm thinking there has to be something going on with Comcast and their line up ?? I am using Schedules Direct for my EPG and that checks out okay. I checked the channel numbers against the Xfinity DVR lineup and all the channel numbers are the same. It looks like my cable card for some reason just decided to not decode those two channels any more? I have started a thread on the Silicon Dust support forum also. Waiting to hear from them before I submit a support ticket to Comcast.
Everything worked last night .. I first noticed the problem earlier this afternoon.
did not complain with anything obvious, have log of it if you'd like to see it.
however, the server did not start. syslog reports

and indeed /opt/dotnet does not exist, and it is not referenced in the install anywhere (but /opt/nextpvr is)
