Kinda cool MVP trick for multiple GBPvr machines
Posted by: A_Brass - 2005-08-22, 03:58 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - No Replies

I stumbled on to this little trick while I was trying to get my MVP up and working.

In my home network setup I have two computers set up with GBPvr running. I have my primary PVR which is a lower spec'ed machine that is located in the living room. I also have my Photo/Video/Audio machine located in my basement office(I had to relocated when my son was born). Main computer has enough horsepower to preform the transcodeing needed for avi play back (I'm still working on sync issues). But my PVR does not.

So (where the hell is this going?) I wanted to be able to switch my MVP between my PVR and my main desktop. I found that If I run the GBPvr Mvp client via autostart or in the window mode, I can switch from one to the other by pressing the green remote buttton(MVP power standby). It doesn't always work but its pretty consistant. 90% of the time I would be connected to my PVR but since I do all my video converting on my main desktop, its nice to be able to watch without having to map drives or manuall start and stop the MVP services on each PC.

According to Sub when it comes out of stanby, it looks for the first server it can find. For some reason when you go to standby it has a tendancy to grab the other server. It works really, well for my application. Sort of a bonus. It might work to let you swich between the MVP software and the GBPvr Software. Not sure. This might be my fix for my AVI playback issues.

Hope someone finds this useful.

New user - advice wanted please
Posted by: reckoning - 2005-08-22, 03:43 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (33)

Hi there,

Well I'm not quite a new user, not yet. Just need some advice before I get started. I want to setup my PC up as a PVR, I was all set to buy WMC when I came across this piece of software. So I've got a few questions that I hope you can help me with.

1. How does GB-PVR compare with WMC? Does GB-PVR do anything WMC can't or vice-versa? Does one done something better then the other?

2. So I've got a PC running Window XP, as far as I can tell the only thing I need to do to get this up and running is to buy a tuner card, is this correct?

3. What's the best tuner card to buy to work with GB-PVR, I'd like to be able to watch one channel and record another. Is it possible to buy cards that can record two programmes and watch a third?

4. What is the quality of recorded programmes like when replayed back on the TV with maximum quality selected, is it as good as the original broadcast?

5. How important is the graphics card in the PC? Does it make any difference to the quality at all?

6. When using the PC as a PVR is it still possible to use the computer while it's recording/playing back a TV programme? By use I mean browsing the internet/word processing, what about playing games?

OK I think that's it for now. As you can probably tell I know next to nothing about this subject so any help would be really appreciated.

Many thanks, Steve

  XRecord questions
Posted by: psiros - 2005-08-22, 03:36 PM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (4)

I have two questions related to XRecord that I've yet to find answers to:

1. Is there any way to specify how many episodes of a show I want recorded? I'd like to set it up so that I can record 3 eps of one show, 5 of another, etc.

2. In the Scheduler, after a show has been scheduled, there are several options which can be modified. One is 'DuplicateScheduled', and it is set to false in my case. What does this mean exactly?

  XRecord v34
Posted by: jorm - 2005-08-22, 02:55 PM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (39)

v.34 2005–08–22

Now guide2j is bundled in the same installation
Guide2j was renamed to XGuide (might need to check the new box in the config)
FastFind was renamed to XSearch (might need to check the new box in the config)
Fastfind now supports the user hitting the & character
another attempt to handle the out of memory error
The new cdk scheduler that will reload the schedule after it runs. If you do not have the latest version
please backup your priorityrecording.exe and replace it after the installation.

You do not have to use all 3 plugins if you do not want to just disable the ones you do not want in the config.

Trans2MVP- how to make it stop crashing
Posted by: jrockintuitive - 2005-08-22, 02:12 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (2)

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this but I wanted to share some of my finding.

Trans2MVP either crashed or worked perfectly for me. It depended on the source file. i.e. for a particular file Trans2MVP either worked perfectly or crashed every time.

I then installed several codecs - for some other reason.

Then Trans2MVP never crashes on me. However, for the files that once crashed, now the sound is out of sync - on both my 350 and MVP.

  Screensaver and the MVP
Posted by: nightwalker - 2005-08-22, 01:46 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (18)

I'm not sure this is in the right place but I'm not sure where else to put it so here goes.

Ever since installing ver 93.10 i can't keep the Media MVP screen saver from popping up ever 60 seconds. I've gone into the Happauge software ver 2.5.23228, (although i've tried several different versions with the same results), and tried a number of settings, off, blank, 5 min, 15 min, and all the setting work just fine as long as i'm in the Happauge software.

When i shut down the Happague software and bring up GB-PVR servers, no matter what i'm set to, i get the bouncing Happauge logo in 60 seconds. I have the GB-PVR screensaver set to off, and that works just fine.

I just don't understand why the Happague screensaver keeps popping up. It doesn't do it if there are screen updates happening such as on the main menu with the next recording panel active or while watching a recording but as soon as you don't do anything for 60 seconds up it comes.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

  Help: Girder Event changer plugin
Posted by: *Dean* - 2005-08-22, 01:19 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Giday.. am new, both to the forums, and to GB PVR.

Am up and running the App, and have the guide data all working, and can record etc.

However, now I am trying to remotely change channels on my Sky Sat receiver. I have a USB-UIRT, and realise that GB PVR can directly drive it, but I don't want to use this feature, as I also use Girder to control a few other IR devices, and when Girder uses it's USB-IRT plugin, it wipes out support for it in GB PVR, and vice-verca.

I have made up a working GML file in girder to control my Sat receiver, and tested the IR commands from Girder and they work fine.
They are events labled '0 thru 9'

Now, I feel the best option for me to change channels from GB PVR, is to use the GB PVR girder channel changer plugin.

However, here's where things have turned to custard, as damned if I can get it to work.

Would some kind sole have some kinda 'guide' as how to setup the girder channel changer plugin?

In girder(3.3), I have the 'Internet Event Server' plugin enabled, but it doesn't seem to be communicating with GB PVR 'at all'

I can however use the girder event.exe command from dos command prompt to trigger my learned commands.
eg. event 1 -silent changes my Sky Receiver to channel 1.

Any help really appreciated!
Thanks in advance..

Suppose this is a question for Sub. Will we ever have all the features that we get with .mpg files like resume, pause live TV etc?

DVR-MS is favourable is its native and stable

GPPVR runs at 100% CPU (version 090112b)
Posted by: lchiu7 - 2005-08-22, 07:50 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

I have been running this version ever since I loaded the app. Every now and then and more lately, the gvpvr app is behaving strangely in that when the app is fired up, the main menu comes up fine but as soon as select say TV Guide, the CPU will jump to 100% on the machine (most of which is gbpvr) and nothing will happen for almost a minute after which the TV guide will appear.

The CPU will stay at 99-100% all the time until I exit the application.

Tried updating to the latest version of gbpvr. Now the CPU doens't hit 100% but it won't record! The app begins to record by changing the channel using my USB-UIRT emitter and then fails recording. An examination of the log is not revealing - one log showed sending channel number 4 (in preparation to sending the 1 as part of channel 41) and that was the end of the log entry. The show was not recorded and showed as a failed recording in the log

I had to back that version out and go back to the 90112b

Anybody with any ideas on this?

Thanks
