I've just installed GBPVR for the first time and have installed XRecord, FastFind, and Guide2J skins. I see each of these as essentially upgrades/replacements for native GBPVR functionality. (Correct me if I'm wrong here.) Yet, they are just added to the Main Menu and don't replace those items. A minor problem is it makes the menu longer than it has to be. The more significant issue is that it makes the menu confusing to the person who wants to see this as a utilitarian appliance and not a techie thing. (Think WAF.)

It shouldn't be necessary to have to describe the difference getween "TV Guide" and "Guide2J" or between "Recordings and XRecord" to a non-tech user/spouse. If a 'replacement' "Search Guide" plugin is present, for example, that should be what is invoked when "Search Guide" is clicked; there shouldn't be a separate menu entry for it. Further "Guide2J" is not a real human-friendly term to appear on the menu. Even if a 'replacement' plugin happens to use the functionality of the native code/plugin which must still be present, only the replacment should appear on the main menu.

Now, I can envision that there may be times when both are desired on the menu, such as when one is trying out or debugging a new plugin but doesn't want to delete (or hide) the native code/plugin. So perhaps this should be a user-configurable thing. Ideally, that would be covered by the GBPVR Config program on the Plugins tab. However, at the very least there should be some way to control this with a (documented) text file that could be edited.
Or can this and should this be better done with the skins?

If something like this already exists which allows one to rationalize the main menu, then please accept my apologies for the above discussion and point me to how to do it.

I've just installed GBPVR and intend to use it almost exclusively via the MVP.
I've been unable to get telephone-style keypad text entry to work with FastFind. Questions and issues:

1. FastFind appears with a layout of a QWERTY keyboard, and doesn't seem to accept telephone-style input. I've changed:
<Interface telephone="false" ....> to
<Interface telephone="true" ....> in the XRecord Blue skin.

Also, in the GBPVR Config program, Plugins Tab, XRecord Settings I've checked "Keyboard Telephone Style". And on the GBPVR Config, Misc tab I've checked "Treat number keys like telephone text entry" though I doubt that applies to FastFind.

Still no luck. How can I get this to work using the Blue skin. (I started with the XMedia Platinum skin. More on that below related to this issue.)

2. There are different methods of telephone keypad entry of alpha text. How is this one supposed to work? (E.g., Timed repetitions? 'Shift' keys? If so, which ones?)

3. If it does work, is it supposed to display a phone-type keypad on the screen rather than the QWERTY keyboard?

4. I mentioned above that the XRecord skin.xml file has the line regarding the telephone interface. Why is that in the XRecord skin, and not in the FastFind skin?

5. The XRecord skin.xml has the <Interface telephone ...> parameter in both the Blue and Red Sky skins. However, I note that the XMedia Platinum skin doesn't include this in its XRecord skin. Does this mean that the XMedia Platinum skin drops functionality that XRecord/FastFind would have had in the standard Blue or Red Sky skins?

I've got an older (single coax plug type) Nova-T pci (this is the 909 type right ? not the 9002 one), with the technotrend BDA drivers installed into a P3-2gig, 700meg ram PC to test all the kit. Its running with an nvidia Ti4600 to use for svideo out.

However, after setting up the recording source and the EPG (with just two channels in order to get it working), I click on the "Map digital channels to EPG channels" button and a little popup, pops up saying "Point me at the config directory" and then just hangs. I can't click on it and I can reproduce this with 100% reliability and just cannot get passed it.

I'm running gbpvr9310 with the ShowShifter mux installed (I did try the PowerDVD trial, but the MuxChecker still only sees the SHowShifter one...)

Any ideas ?

since the feature was added to automatically change the channel while in liveTV mode when a scheduled recording begins, i've noticed a bug in my system setup.

to be clear, i asked for this feature, and love it...i'm really not whining, just reporting my findings to see if this is truly a bug, or if it's something due to my particular configuration.

i have my pvr250's channel changer set up with my regular cable connection, but i also have satellite (no channel changer) coming in via the external s-video connection. when watching something on cable and a scheduled recording on cable occurs, and the switch takes place, all is well. however, when i'm watching cable, and a scheduled recording on the external s-video begins, and switches, the video switches, but the recorded file ends up being corrupted (this is only noticeable after the recording finishes). from the recordings screen, attempts to play back the recording lock up gbpvr, and attempts to play this file from the windows file system explorer lock up windows. similarly, when i'm watching a program on the external s-video connection, and gbpvr switches to a scheduled recording on cable, that recording is likewise corrupted. seems to me there's a bug when switching sources/connections. curious to know if anyone else has seen this behavior, or would test it out if they've got a similar setup.

additionally, when watching liveTV and then switching to a scheduled recording, upon completion of the recording, i lose audio when it resumes liveTV again. again, this is pretty minor, just pointing it out.

Now that gbpvr has auto skip I have noticed that I miss the second or two of commercials that I like to see for the peace of mind that I saw the end of the show. Ok my wife is the one whom always tells me that we missed something.

I think you can do some padding stuff in comskip but this makes it consistant for comskip and SA.

So I have a little tool that write now only has 3 settings.


beginpadding=30; the amount to add to each begining commercial segment
endpadding=0; the amount to subtract from each ending commercial segment
startLimit=100; if commerical in first X frames, add begining to commercial


Does anyone else find this useful enough to post?
It would run after comskip or SA.

I just got gbpvr working, and am wondering what i need to change the channel on a sat. dish. it has no low speed data port, so i know i need some type of ir blaster, but the all seem expensive. is there a better,reliable, cheaper option? and what exactly do i need?

So what I would like to do is be able to set a show to record, then have comskip check for commercials, have the commercials cut out and have the mpg file be named something closer to the show's title than Inside The Actors Studio_02390483247398_2389479382793.mpg.

I have installed compskip, comclean and renamerecordings into my gbpvr directory, and my batch file looks like this:

Comskip appears to be working fine (produces a long log explaining everything about what it did, and created cut points). And comclean appears to have worked (it creates 2 files: Inside The Actors Studio_02390483247398_2389479382793.mpg and Inside The Actors Studio_02390483247398_2389479382793_original.mpg), one of which is 1.98GB and the other is 1.76GB, with the original being larger.

The problem is this: The file lengths are the same, 1:02:54, even though one is allegedly shorter. And the non-original file seems corrupted at points (if you skip into an area where a commercial used to be I think, it freezes up...)

So how can I get comclean to work and produce shorter, workable mpg files? Also, does my batch file look okay? Any other way to do this? I usually find that comskip does well enough that I would rather have to watch 20 seconds of commercials it misses than sit with MPEG-VCR for an hour editing all my shows manually.,.....

Develop a p2p network amongst gbpvr users that would allow you to "record" shows that you may have missed in the past by downloading them.

Although it sounds illegal the Broadcast Flag law actually allows for it.
