  Possible driver conflict?
Posted by: pwtenny - 2005-08-15, 08:37 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

I have a new dual-head display running since Friday. The primary display is an Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti 4200 AGP (great card, works fine) and a Radeon 7000 VE PCI (older but has S-Video out). I've been able to get GB-PVR running on the second display and on the TV with some hassle allowing me to use my desktop while things are playing on the TV (although I've decided I won't do this for reasons not relevant here).

At some point while screwing around with this setup this weekend, I somehow lost the live preview, not only for GBPVR but also WinTV. Figuring this was a driver issue, I went to http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support/s...vr150.html and updated *everything*. This restored live preview mode for both programs and I assume all was well. All was definitely not well.

When it came time for GBPVR to record a program, it changed the channel, created the directory and file (of zero size) and then the recording service terminated. There were no errors in any of the logs, and there were no error dialogs. Restarting the recording service succeeded only to have it terminate when it tried to begin recording again.

At first I thought this was a bug with the new version (the new new version) and I tried to revert (which started a battle with windows MSI installer which I barely escaped alive.)

I eventually was able to revert and found the problem persisted across the previous version as well. Having gained nothing, I upgraded again and still encountered the problem. I downgraded again, and was getting no where.

I'll note here that live preview mode DID work at this point for both GBPVR and WinTV. Only recording with GBPVR caused the service to die, and unfortunately I was too focused on getting this problem fixed to check and see if recording with WinTV still worked.

I finally decided to uninstall the new video decoder (http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/...wsmd05.exe) and found there was no uninstall method for it. I just (as in minutes ago) reverted my entire system to a restore point the system created when I first installed the newest GBPVR which should have been before I revamped the WinTV suite of crap. This seems to have worked, as a test (finding anything and setting it to quick rec from the guide) resulted in this:

08/15/2005 04:19 AM 20,694,976 The Real Da Vinci Code_20050815_04000600.mpg

and the recording service did not terminate.

Now since I lack a JIT debugger for C# (I'm a Java and C guy, I have debuggers for those but not this) I can't even begin to tell you where things went wrong, only that the recording service was consistently terminating without logging any errors (yes I set the error level to Debug) after creating the file on disk, and that my best guess is that the video decoder update was responsible. Either that, or one of the most recent driver updates (http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support/s...r150.html), I had installed them all.

I strongly urge that no one go to that hauppauge site and update their drivers until this has been investigated more fully.

Good luck figuring this out.

Weather - forecast keeps throwing me an error
Posted by: drewkaree - 2005-08-15, 05:13 AM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (15)

Every so often when hitting the "forecast" button in weather, I get an error message (didn't write it down, and naturally, it's working now) and the forecast not only won't show, it can only be fixed by a shutdown of gbpvr and restarting it again.

When it happens again, I'll be sure to write down the error message and post it here, but has anyone else had this problem (and perhaps can recite the error message too)

REMOVING a theater from the Theater listing?
Posted by: drewkaree - 2005-08-15, 05:01 AM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (4)

I'd like for the movie listings to be able to be updated, but in dialing in my skin, I can't figure out if there's a way to have the listing delete/remove/not show a few theaters.

I'm simply NEVER going to those theaters, so if those few theaters can be set to never update and never show on my display, it'll save me time and headaches paging through them.

Possible?

MVPScreenPosition - What am I doing wrong?
Posted by: daphatty - 2005-08-15, 03:31 AM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (22)

I have figured out how this cool little app works but I'm just not having the kind of success that I want. For some reason, the left margin of the GBPVR menu is offset by roughly 1 inch from the actual edge of the TV screen. I've tried to widen the "width" setting which only expanded the right side of the viewable area. Adjusting the offset only made the left edge disappear behind the left margin as if it were some sort of solid border. This problem only affects the MVP menu screen (blue skin is the default). Video files play normally.

Any suggestions?

P.S. - I think the original thread on this subject has been deleted because I simply couldn't find it. The link on the wiki only takes you to the Developer forum, not the thread itself.

  Season recording match on prefix
Posted by: bgowland - 2005-08-15, 03:08 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (1)

Quick example...

Tonight on ITV1 was 'Agatha Christie's Poirot: Murder in Mesopotamia'. Next week's episode (same channel/timeslot) is simply shown as 'Agatha Christie's Poirot' with a sub-title of 'Sad Cypyus'. I've noticed this seems to be more common in TV listings recently, i.e., sometimes using a ':' and the sub-title to make up the main title. What would be nice would be an option to treat a ':' as a prefix/suffix delimiter and match season recordings on the prefix.

FM Radio scans but never stops
Posted by: bgowland - 2005-08-15, 02:48 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (10)

...or should I say it never pauses to give me the option to save any stations as presets. Basically it works fine if I manually enter a freq. and save it but a scan just gives a progress bar from left to right with split-second snippets of anything it finds along the way. When it gets to the end, it starts playing the last station it found (Radio Jackie 107.8 MHz). The gbpvr.exe.native.log shows the following...

Code:
03:28:27.703 VERBOSE put_Mode(AMTUNER_MODE_FM_RADIO) 03:28:27.703 VERBOSE put_Channel(87500000, AMTUNER_SUBCHAN_DEFAULT, AMTUNER_SUBCHAN_DEFAULT) 03:28:28.156 VERBOSE getSetting(ListGraphFilters) 03:28:28.156 VERBOSE Graph contains the following filters: 03:28:28.156 VERBOSE - Default DirectSound Device 03:28:28.156 VERBOSE - Capture 03:28:28.156 VERBOSE - Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Crossbar 03:28:28.156 VERBOSE - TV Audio 03:28:28.156 VERBOSE - TV Tuner 03:28:28.156 VERBOSE getSetting(SaveGraphFiles) 03:28:28.250 VERBOSE ConexantRecorder::StartRecording() done 03:28:28.265 VERBOSE SetFrequency(87600000) 03:28:28.312 VERBOSE Freq: 87500000 03:28:28.406 VERBOSE SetFrequency(87700000) 03:28:28.453 VERBOSE Freq: 87500000 03:28:28.531 VERBOSE SetFrequency(87800000) 03:28:28.578 VERBOSE Freq: 87500000 03:28:28.656 VERBOSE SetFrequency(87900000) 03:28:28.703 VERBOSE Freq: 87500000 03:28:28.781 VERBOSE SetFrequency(88000000) 03:28:28.828 VERBOSE Freq: 87500000 03:28:28.906 VERBOSE SetFrequency(88100000) 03:28:28.953 VERBOSE Freq: 87500000
The SetFrequency entries go up to 107900000 each one followed by the Freq: 87500000 line.

  Comcast On-Demand

I'm not exactly sure if this is even possible or not... I get it at my house on my TV, but of course not on my PVR. It is simply streamed to the TV, so perhaps there is a way to code it in.

Media MVP - $53.95 Clearance at Circuit City!
Posted by: daphatty - 2005-08-14, 11:12 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (1)

I just happened to be browsing at Circuit City in Tysons Corner, V.A. and I found the Media MVP on clearance for $53.95! I am SOOO glad I returned the first one I bought at the full MSRP! They only had two in stock and the MVP is no longer listed on their website so this may be a B&M type deal only.

  Hauppauge PVR 150 v/s 350
Posted by: careh - 2005-08-14, 09:05 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (11)

I had bought a PVR-350 as I was told it was tops for PVR use due to its hardware 'encoding' (if that is the right word) capabilities.

I was experiencing lockups with my Hauppauge PVR-350 both in GB-PVR and in Beyond TV. I bought a PVR-150 - and presto!! after replacing the 350 with the 150 - the lockups went away.

Can I get suggestions on whether I should just sell off the PVR-350 - or - hang onto it and try to find the resolution to the locking?
