  HTPC Gaming
Posted by: reven - 2005-06-16, 06:35 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (10)

i was wondering if anyone knew of games that work really well on a htpc, that fulfill these requirements
- Custom resolution (either hack or natively, 720x576 is the res i use)
- HUD (Heads up display, health bar etc) is visible with overscan
- can control everything via gamepad (well most things...)
- is fun Smile
- 5.1 would be nice.

the games i got that work really well are
- Top Spin (this game is actuall really good for htpc, and fun Smile
- Fantastic Four (any resolution, widescreen support, can control everything via a gamepad, really really htpc friendly, and its pretty good Smile
- Stepmania
- Prince of Persia Sands of Time (really really good, great gamepad support, and theres a hack to get it to work with any res, 10 out of 10 game)
- Prince of Persia Warrior Within(really really good, great gamepad support, and theres a hack to get it to work with any res, 10 out of 10 game, play the first game first thou)
- BloodRayne 1 (havent got bloodrayne 2 yet) same deal as Prince of Persia (gread game)
- Need for Speed Underground (the menu is fixed at 800x600 but in game you can use a hack to any res).
- Catwoman, it works well any res, gamepad fully supported, but the game itself is rubbish.
- Stolen, same deal as catwoman, htpc friendly but the game isnt all that good.
- Brian Lara's Cricket 2005 (demo), any res (well i got it to work with 720x576) its better than EAs Cricket 2005 (well the demo anyway).

I want to get some cool sports games, all the EA ones seem to require a mouse to navigate the menus (really annoying) and some more racing games, maybe 3rd person games like splinter cell (i had trouble getting my gamepad to work in pandora tomorrow.. gave up)

games that just didnt really work
- star wars lego, (couldnt get my controll set right, not sure about custom res)
- Batman Vengenace,

  Recommended procedure to Downgrade
Posted by: mobiusnz - 2005-06-16, 05:43 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

Just wondering whats the best (best = easiest Wink procedure to Downgrade? I want to go back to the last version I was running as I'm having issues with not being able to do MPEG2 on my TV Walker - only Mpeg4 is working.

Is there an easy way or should I uninstall?

  Pvr 350
Posted by: toma - 2005-06-16, 05:43 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (5)

Using gbpvr and a Hauppauge PVR350, is it possible to have OSD without TV out from a graphics card?

I'm using a very low profile, and very quite p3 800mhz PC as a PVR in the living room and it has only 2 PCI slots. 1 is used up by the PVR350 and I suspect a videocard may not fit in the other. I don't want to put a monitor in the living room.

Any suggestions?

  How to Remove X-Media MVP
Posted by: seaneys - 2005-06-16, 03:56 AM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (1)

Hello,

I was recently experimenting and installed X-Media MVP for my MVP. It's great, but I'd really like to switch back true blue X-Media. For some reason, changing the control panel does to seem to have any impact on what my MVP is using as a skin (it does change the skin on my computer).

Any ideas?

Thanks,
STeve

  Playing DVD's
Posted by: Ron22 - 2005-06-16, 02:53 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (11)

When I try to play some Commercial (Disney) DVD with GB-PVR all I get is a black screen. I can play some DVD I burnt. I have not tried alot of different DVDs.
I have VMR9 for play back, under DVD everything is set to Default.
Is there something I need to change? Or is there a way to play these movies?

  [0.9211] Recording service grabs 100%CPU
Posted by: venger - 2005-06-16, 12:45 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

Hi all,

Has anyone had any occassion when their recording service is grabbing approx. 100% CPU?

I am finding that the recording service CPU usage shoots up to almost 100% when:
(1) there is a CPU spike usage from another app - say I am surfing, downloading, and the recording service is recording TV
(2) my PC wakes up from hibernate to record TV

I also find that when this happens I can't manually use Task Mgr to terminate the service - if i restart the service, it just shoots up to 100% again.
So to recover, I have to CANCEL recording thru GBPVR - and this is hard to do when the GUI is crawling due to the service grabbing 100% CPU Smile

note: this happens whether or not I set the new ForceRecordingServicePriorityHigh flag in config.xml

  Re-install GB-PVR after format?
Posted by: Beaker - 2005-06-16, 12:09 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

I have searched but couldn't find an answer to this one:

I am building a new PC and planning to make the old machine into a dedicated GB-PVR box. (I'm lovin' GB-PVR that much)

The old PC has been having random slowdowns for the past few weeks (it knows it's being replaced Smile ) so I am looking forward to formatting it and doing a clean install of windows.

My question is: when I then do a clean install of GB-PVR, how do I recover my database details (gbpvr, rectracker and anything else...)?

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that you can't just copy the mdb files to a new version of GB-PVR?

Thanks...
