  Versatile internet radio plug in
Posted by: raptoger - 2005-05-20, 08:38 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

I was wondering if anyone would be able to write a plugin to listen to internet radio not confined to just those of shoutcast. I know there are many stations streaming at that site but there are some uniques that one would like to listen. I figure that these guys who wrote the weather plugin and or the theater listing plugin could give us a hand into making a plugin to listen to any station streaming on the net as easy as it is with any Windows machine.

Come on, guys ! Help us here!

Thanks

  Playback Problems
Posted by: megashub - 2005-05-20, 08:23 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

I know this is all probably old hat for you guys, but here's what I got anyway:

First, specs:

AMD 3000+
512mb DDR ram
Asus k8n mb (nvidia onboard digital and analog audio ports)
Hauppauge 150MCE
MCE2005 IR Remote
160gb SATA150 hdd
XP Pro SP2

I'm hooking up the PVR PC to my stereo receiver, a Sony STR-DE545, using a digital fiber SPDIF monster cable (not the multi-cable analog).

I first wrestled for hours about why I couldn't get 5.1 to work.. turned out I needed to use Nvidia's installer package and not piecemeal the drivers seperately. The package includes a mixer and output customizer that shifts the output over to digital and finally translates 5.1 digital signals properly.

Now that I could verify that 5.1 surround was possible outside of GBPVR, I set about trying to get it to work within.

So far, I have been unsuccessful. In fact these two problems have existed since initial installation, irregardless of my attempts to solve the 5.1 issue:

1) Audio output for DVD is restrained to 2.0 surround only.

2) No audio output during playback of previous tv recordings, even though full playback is possible outside of the application. (note: live playback gets stereo audio, no problem)

Inside GB-PVR's config app, the only audio output options, for either MPEG or DVD, I have are:

System Default
MPEG Audio Decoder
NVIDIA Audio Decoder

Audio Renderers:
System Default
NVidia nForce Audio
Default DirectSound Device
Default WaveOut Device
DirectSound NVidia nForce Audio

Regardless of what combination of decoders / renderers I use, the result remains exactly the same.

I admit, from this point forward my understanding of what needs to change is virtually nonexistant. I don't really have a clue what's needed to make GB-PVR output properly, or who/what provides it.

All I really do know is, from applications such as VLAN player, 5.1 output is achievable. And from players such as VLAN or WMP, recorded MPEG's output audio just fine.

Can someone a) help me make sense of what I seem to be missing intellectually, and b) help me to resolve these two problems?

Thanks,
Bob

  Won't record through STB
Posted by: jdsnov73 - 2005-05-20, 07:46 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

I just switched to digital cable. I got the STB hooked up to my PVR and got the irblaster that came with my PVR-150 setup.

I went to the TVGuide and picked a show and selected it to record as I did before I had the cable box. The irblaster correctly changed the channel to the desired channel, but the recording service did not start to record the show. I have pulled up the gbpvrrecordingservice.exe.log and it shows that the recording has started and is recording, but it's not.

I have tried to cancel the recording, but it just keeps trying to record it.

I have changed the channel on the STB, rebooted the computer, and when it reboots the recording service will see that it is still in the time period to record the show, change the channel to the desired channel, but won't record it?????

So, my (2) questions are:

Why is acting like it wants to record, but won't?

And, why can't I just simply cancel a recording? It seems like you have to wait until the time period for the show has expired until you can gain control of the system again.

Please provide some insight.

Thanks

Recipe to convert mpg to xvid?
Posted by: rgann - 2005-05-20, 06:10 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (12)

Hi, I'm hoping for find an easy-to-follow guide on how to convert the mpegs that gbpvr makes (default medium setting mpeg2s) to xvid-encoded avis. I've seen video files on the net that are beautiful in xvid, and at only 350 megs for a 52 minute episode of something.

I tried using virtualdubmod, but the aspect ratio gets changed and the visual results aren't great. How about it: has anybody got a recipe for how to do this? doom9.org and videohelp.com don't really address the issue.

I have a Plextor TV-402U, and GBPVR won't record any of the programs, for some reason. Here is what shows up in the error log. It's the same error every time it happens.

I downloaded it today, so I have the latest version. Is there any fix for this problem?

  Idea for a plugin.
Posted by: RandyAdamsTN - 2005-05-20, 02:43 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (1)

I think it would be cool if there was a plugin that could re-run comskip on files that get interpupted. I understand that if you watch a program while the comskip is running, its stopped and dosent resume. Then you are left with a show with commericals. ick!

A way to re-run comskip on selected files would be cool.
