Posted by: stefan - 2005-05-07, 07:49 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (2)

Small but yet wish :-)
Skip forward skips 1 minute forward, except in the case when there is less than 1 minute left to the end. Could it be done so that skip in that case would skip to the end of the file? That way it would be easy to "catch up", instead of just "almost catch up". I'm talking about when viewing a file that is still recording :-)

  Logger with MVP
Posted by: jam40jeff - 2005-05-07, 06:27 AM - Forum: Developers - Replies (2)

Does the Logger work when running through an MVP? I am trying to catch timestamps of when the render function is called, but I get not a single line of output in the logfile. On the computer, it prints the message ("Render called") every time. Even if the function isn't called every second on the MVP, it should at least show one rendering (when the task is intially rendered).

Also, does GetAudioPlaylist(...) return anything meaningful from the MVP? It seems to always return 0's for the index, duration, and position variables.

If only I had an MVP to test on, this would be a lot easier. And please don't tell me how they're only $89.99 right now, if I had ANY extra money I'd already have one. Sad

  2 questions (1) PVR-500 (2) Record to DVD
Posted by: jesse_breaker - 2005-05-07, 06:01 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

1) I am rather new here, but I have been reading a ton! Anyway I was wondering if there was an easy way (via a plug-in or core gbpvr) that I can copy/burn a recorded TV show to DVD? Right now say I record Family Guy, and then the next day if my buddy missed the show I can just give him my VHS copy. I would like to toss my VCR in favor for gbpvr. How would I go about giving my buddy last nights aired copy of family guy that I 'taped' via gbpvr?

2) I will be getting a PVR500MCE (not the PVR500) because this is what my local reseller has. Are they the same cards? Can I use a PVR500MCE in place of a PVR500?

3) Under the quick install info I read :

"If you have a Hauppauge PVR250/350/USB2 device, Provideo PV258/259 or other Conexant Ibased capture device you should select the Direct Recording Plugin option for the Recording Source"

When I install my PVR500MCE card, I assume I will just use Direct Recording right?

PS> Ok that was 3 questions Wink

  PVR350 DiVX and Avi's
Posted by: hamster-man - 2005-05-07, 03:40 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (4)

After trawling through a lot of the posts I thought I would ask my question directly. I am putting a HTPC together based around a PVR350 that I have aquired and would like to be able to play DiVX and Avi's trhough the one TV connection.

From what I have read the PVR350 ONLY out puts Mpeg2 streams and the GUI (not xp desktop) due to its hardware ecoding constraints. I can live with that! But after finding the 'video in' daughter card for the PVR350 I got thinking...

Why can't I play the DiVX (through GBPVR) -> output via the Graphics card & soundcard -> into the PVR350 Daughter card and then out via the PVR350 to the TV?

I know that is a big chunk of data looping but I may as well use the onboard encoder/decoder of the 350 to do the work!

Is this possible? or won't GBPVR be able to switch between the two 350 video inputs?

Any Yes/no/maybes would be greatly appreciated before I buy more hardware. I would have thought that I am not the only one to come up with this concept... so someone must have some experience!

Cheers

  Hang on "Starting Timeshift Mode"
Posted by: rgann - 2005-05-07, 02:45 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

Hi, I'm running GB-PVR on XP SP2, and it always hangs if I try to pause (rewind, etc) live TV. It says "Starting Timeshift Mode TV. Please Wait" but never recovers. I eventually have to use task manager to get control back. After one of these incidents, there is a large mpg file in my recording directory. I can not play back the file, since it says I don't have the necessary codec (which one???).

I searched the forum archive, but the question was really never answered (it was asked once, but no satisfactory reply). Do I need a special codec to use this feature? Any help would be appreciated.

System specs are:
Sempron 2400
NForce 2 mobo (I believe manufactured by ECS)
256 pc 2700 RAM
Hauppauge PVR 250

Thanks

  Recorded vidoe is defective.
Posted by: DeadSmiley - 2005-05-07, 01:31 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (10)

I have recorded a few shows with GBPVR and it all worked fine. The problem is that my recordings are flawed, the are nice and sharp for a few seconds and then they are pixelated. I am not sure what is happening. I took a couple of screen captures of the recorded video on my main PC so you guys could see it.

What do you guys think? Other mpegs play back fine on both machines, it's just the recorded ones that are f00ked.

Hi
I cannot seem to get xmltv to only give me 1 day's worth of listings. Everytime I run it it gives me 14 days...

This is the batch command I am using:

cd\xmltv
xmltv tv_grab_uk_rt --output epg.xml --days 1
exit

Does anyone have the same issue or know what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!

  HDTV Digital "Broadcast" Flag Overturned
Posted by: jsteele - 2005-05-06, 07:38 PM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (2)

There was some concern on this forum about the FCC's proposed rulemaking that would require HDTV devices after July 1, 2005 to honor a "broadcast" (copy prevention) flag in transmissions.

According to press reports, the US Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia has ruled against the FCC in "American Library Association v. Federal Communications Commission". In the ruling the court said

Quote:"...Because the Commission exceeded the scope of its delegated authority, we grant the petition for review, and reverse and vacate the Flag Order insofar as it requires demodulator products manufactured on or after July 1, 2005 to recognize and give effect to the broadcast flag"
It is unlikely that the FCC will appeal to the US Supreme Court. Because the court ruled that they exceeded their authority, the other possibility is that they will seek some sort of legislative authority from Congress. But that's likely to be hard to get.
