  I love you, man...
Posted by: capone - 2005-03-16, 04:02 PM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

Way off topic, but just wanted to say to sub, and the all the active posters, thanks for a great forum. It can be hard to run a good board, and harder still to find one that has repsonse and good info. Everyone here is helpful, informed, and if nothing else, polite and respectful.

Not trying to make this to maudlin, but I wanted to say--and I'm sure it goes for most--that I appreciate everyone who takes the time to answer a question of chat up a topic.

Is there an easy way for a plugin to tell if it is running on a MVP?

  Late Night DivX conversion?
Posted by: Dubya - 2005-03-16, 03:38 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (3)

Would it be possible to have mpegs converted to Xvid/DivX while I sleep to save on HD space? Or does it take a zillion hours to convert one mpeg?

Also Sub, are you planning on adding native support for DivX?

Thanks,

Dubya

Visual distortion and the nVidia 5200
Posted by: capone - 2005-03-16, 02:10 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (9)

I'm thinking it's the 5200 card, but recently I started getting a "heat wave" visual effect on the screen (even during bios, so it's not xp). It's only very obvoius on the flat blue GB background. If I shut down for a while, it goes away for a while.

My case runs around 89 F/31 C, and the CPU around 107 / 41 when GB is doing TV. I leave the system always on. That doesn't seem too hot, but maybe the prolonged heat effected it.

Has anyone gotten this before? Also thinking it could be the cable.

  Best software MPEG-2 decoder
Posted by: LoneWolf - 2005-03-16, 02:06 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

Just getting opinions...

Which software MPEG-2 decoder has the best visual quality?

Which has the lowest CPU usage?

Since there's a lot to choose from, I wanted to get people's opinions. I'd like to use a decoder that has the lowest CPU usage possible with GBPVR (without sacrificing too much visual quality), since my hardware is limited. SSE support would be a bonus. System CPU is a Tualatin-core Celeron 1.3GHz with 384MB of RAM (soon to be 512MB, the system's max), video card is an onboard Matrox MGA-200 AGP (drivers identify it as a Matrox Mystique) with 8MB of RAM, running XP Pro SP2. This is a budget box built from a small Sony VAIO minitower, its advantages being a lot of cool things already built in, small size, and low noise --oh, and that it fit my budget, much of it being free. Until I have it set up to make better use of my Sigma Designs XCard, I need the best software solution for playback.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

  This program rocks, but...
Posted by: wrecked - 2005-03-16, 01:21 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

Hiya all

First I want to say thanks to sub for this awsome program. Thank you for this really cool program, it is so nice and flexible!

Then I would like to share what I found out regarding the audio out of sync problem.

I have the Hauppauge PVR USB 2 box and are getting delayed audio in "live TV".

It seems like sync is fine when I do a recording. Even if I use timeshift in "Live tv" it suddently works fine again. The problem only exists when viewing "Live tv" without recording or timeshifting.

I have tried to place the livetv buffer on another drive and I have tried to defrag, but it didnt help.

The funny part is that I still have WinTV2000, and if I watch live tv from here, everything is in sync.

Now, I know that GB-PVR dosnt have anything to do with the decoding, but remmind you that both GBPVR and WinTV2000 are using the same drivers. Something is different in the frontends.

Sub, you really should try to figure out what hauppauge is doing in wintv2000 to not get this problem.

Comments or sugestions are very welcome.

Best regards,
Wrecked

Newbie Question re: UK SKY box
Posted by: meekor - 2005-03-16, 07:07 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (7)

OK.. I'm a total newbie to this.. [Image: wow.gif] can anyone tell me if I can still use the red button type features on a UK SKY box using the SKY remote if I have it connected through the WinTV PVR 250/350? Is there some fundemental way PVRs work(i.e. there is big lag) that stops this working OK? I was hoping to use it with a USBUIRT to change channels etc.

Thx [Image: smile.gif]

  Plextor PX-TV402U shows black screen
Posted by: Abdu - 2005-03-16, 06:38 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I have installed GB-PVR to use Plextor PX-TV402U. The Plextor has the latest updates and WinDVR has the latest updates. WinDVR works fine.

However GB-PVR shows a black screen for the video but I can hear audio. When I switch channels, it's still the same audio from the same channel. Same thing for a recording.
Did I miss a setting?
I have included screen caps of my settings.
Note: I don't have WinDVD installed.

Can't change channels using # keys
Posted by: pcostanza - 2005-03-16, 04:03 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

Updated today (like what I see) and one of the first things I noticed was that I can't change channels using the # keys...only with the up/down keys. I have used the 'fix remote settings' update and restarted the IR but no go.
Is there something else I'm supposed to do?

Using a recording source other than listed?
Posted by: hdskifreak - 2005-03-16, 02:16 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Hi Everyone,

I don't know if this information is on the develpoment docs or not. I am looking for a way to trigger a recording using an external program.

For example, I am lucky enough to have an Motorola HD tuner with a Firewire port that lets me capture MPeg2 stream using my PC and programs like DHVSTool, DVHSCap, etc. It would ve "very nice" if I could schedule and manage these recording from the GBPVR interace. Right now, I have to manually schedule these with the respective program, "pull" them into GBPVR via the "Video Library" section, and watch them.

I Got the XRecord plugin in hopes that it had the capability to send recording commands to VLC (which would have been sweet), but it seems it uses VLC just for transcoding. [Image: sad.gif]
I'm still very hopefuly that XRecord will solve my timeslot season records woes once and for all... I'm really tired of having tiimeslot recording entries in the DB that span 4 (or is it 3) hours regardless of the program length!

Is there something like a "null" source that could be registered as a placeholder to make this trigger Idea work? Any pointers would be most appreciated.

Best Regards,

HDSkiFreak
