I am very new to the world of PVR and have chosen to use GBPVR since it supports my Hauppauge 350 card with the nice quality built in video out that I wanted.
QUESTION: Can I use the GBPVR interface to play my older recorded Mpegs?...or will it only play video that I have recorded using the GBPVR? I have tried to play some older musicvideos downloaded as torrents in MPEG format, but nothing happens? Is there some way to work around this and get them to play using my 350card with video out?
QUESTION 2 ( I guess this is the real dumb one) Can I ever use the GB interfaced to play video and movies recorded in other formats...avi from torrents for example? What do I need to do to convert and make them accessible through the interface?
THANKS IN ADVANCE TO ANYONE WHO TAKES THE TIME TO ANSWER QUESTIONS LIKE MINE.
For example: If I set "pre-show padding" = 5 min and "post-show padding" = 10 min then in a record of show I will have 15 min pre-show padding and cut the end of the show.
The .tivo files that you can DL off your Tivo using the TivoToGo software are semi-protected MPEG-2 formatted files. I've tried to get them added to the Videos listing, but GB-PVR doesn't recognize .tivo as a valid extension, and changing the filename to .mpg means that the TivoDirectShow.dll doesn't get called so the video can't be viewed.
Is there a trick that should make this work, or am I going to have to plan on recording the same shows from GB-PVR if I want to watch them anywhere else?
MVP works great for me, however I find that if I hit the green power button on my remote to power off the MVP, most of the time, when I power it back on again, it won't reconnect to the server. Sometimes the service appears green still at this point on my server as if its still streaming live TV. This usually happens when I power off while watching live TV. Other times, it will still appear red as if there's no activity. The only fix for me has been to restart the recording service on the server. Any ideas?
Below is my priorityrecordings.xml file. It was generated after i entered the information on GBPVR. I have the latest xrecord plugin. So after updateepg ran, same problem: Every Single Episode on Channel 2 (the first channel on my EPG) was slated to record. It just put everything into pending--so again, you can imagine it is a pain in the a** to go through and delete each one. If anyone knows what i'm doing wrong, please let me know. Below is my file:
I'm looking to put together a GB-PVR/PVR-150/MediaMVP setup to kind of try out GB-PVR. I currently have a regular SDTV with basic cable coming directly for the wall. I want to make sure a understand the basic setup correctly.
Basic cable -> PVR-150 coax input
Computer with PVR-150 -> Router
MediaMVP -> Router
MediaMVP -> TV S-Video Input
Does that look about right?
The other question I had was regarding the remote. Apparrently the MVP can come with either the old Hauppauge remote or the new 45-button one. Does the GB-PVR/MVP combo work fine with the new 45-button remote? And if my MVP comes with the old remote, can I get the 45-button remote separately and have it work fine (and with little difficulty)?
I am currently building a PVR with a Hauppauge PVR 150 card with the remote and IR blaster because I use an external Dish Network receiver. This card does not have an FM tuner and I was wondering if I could use the FM tuner from a WinTV-Go-FM in this system? Or does GBPVR even support this on this card. Also could it be used to watch live TV from an alternate source like cable or an antenna (I know it won't record because it has no encoder)
It would be nice to see the following settings available within Live TV via a right-click:
Screen Aspect options: 16x9 or 4x3 selections
Preset window sizes: Tiny, Small, Medium, Large, Full Screen
Keep Aspect Ratio option
Record options: Until Stopped, Unitl End of Current Show, 30, 60 & 90 ,minute options
Stop Recording

when I try to start GB-PVR or the tuner application, I get an error ConnectPins failed. After that an error comes that some VideoOut pin can't be connected to a VideoIn pin (I'm not at home at the moment so I don't have the exact error msg). The tuner application will joyfully scan the frequencies after the error, but ofcourse the screen remains black on all of them.
Searched the forums, but it doesn't look like anyone experienced this problem before.
