  New list of issues :-P
Posted by: NLS - 2004-11-14, 05:30 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (22)

OK here is my list of current issues and possible wishes for GBPVR (it has taken the place of my primary PVR solution embeded in Meedio). I'll restate older/ununswered issues too.

1) Is it possible to exit directly from GBPVR? (and I mean including IN a plugin, eg. when playing TV) - will CTRL-F4 work? If not, this is a nice request. <Solved - Yes>

2) There is a rather long delay (longer than 1-2 seconds) when switching channels. I know it's not a PVR-350 problem, since both Hauppauge software and other PVR solutions (even old-GotTV) change channels much faster. Any way to fix this? <Pending issue> I could say it's even LONGER now!

3) How does DIRECT NUMBER channel switching works? When I press a number on the remote, I see it printed on screen (lower left) but nothing happens. If I press "OK" on my remote (it is NOT a Hauppauge remote), it moves me to a specific channel, irrelevant to the channel I have in the list. I would love if I could enter the number and NOT press anything else after that (no ENTER needed). If I want a double-digit number, to be able to input it in a specific delay, like a real TV. In other words press "2" takes you to channel "2", but pressing "2" then "1" immediately after, take you to "21". Much nicer and MORE wife friendly. <Personal preference for wishlist - pending> Still the same [Image: sad.gif]

4) I miss two TV functions that most real televisions and TV-PVR have: "last channel" button (ie. press it and it takes you back to the channel you were before - so you can easily swap between two channels) and "channel list" (ie. pop you in your TV screen the list of channels and you move up or down and select the channel you want) <Last channel works, channel list as a list is personal preference for wishlist - pending>

5) Mini-guide doesn't work well with the remote. Works ok with the keyboard (CTRL-G). Remote also has CTRL-G programmed, but what happens... it pops the mini-guide but just keeps it open for... 2 seconds! So you don't have the chance to select anything. Also if you press the button again, it switches to info on the current channel and I need to press it a third time! (this could be a Girder problem I need to look up - anybody has any thoughts on this?) <Fixed - user error>

6) What about a PROPER ability to sort the buttons in the main menu the way we want? Sub has mentioned something about renaming the plugins (!Wink but this is not a nice solution (and I don't know if it works too - and surely after every update, we'll need to rename them again!Wink. <Pending for future version (next?)> I think fixed?

7) Ability to hide mouse cursor? (normally I am fine since my cursor is set automaticaly to bottom right) <Partially working, I would prefer real hiding, irrelevant to movement> Not yet...

(older issues from here on)

8) Of course the lack of ability to assign the buttons we want to the functions we want. I would love even a preliminary (throught the .ini file directly) solution. People that don't want to use Hauppauge remote (like me with Girder and an X-10 remote) have problems. <Personal preference for wishlist - Pending> Not yet...

9) Anybody to make a skin resembling Meedio's Pandora Box Ice Age? :-) - I tried but couldn't do anything more than change the background. <Pending... anybody?> I now use direct calls to the modules I want so I don't care.

10) A little bug. If you have a mix of channels having EPG and channels that do not have (or you don't currently have EPG info on them), there is nothing to show your position. For example:

ET1 (empty nothing to the right)
NET (empty nothing to the right)
ANT1 (EPG list for the day)

if you are over a program on ANT1, all fine... if you press up button (where you go in the empty NET list) there is nothing to show you are over NET or ET1. If you press up once more, then you are over ET1, but you don't know that - you need to press down, twice to go back to ANT1 list and SEE where you are. I hope you get my meaning. There should be some indication of where you are in ALL cases. <Pending> My temporary fix is to fill the whole 24 hours with "EMPTY EPG" program, but GBPVR should fix this!

11) Popping the on screen menu (the menu with the "pause" symbol in the middle) doesn't do anything for me. Does this work? I have tried with keyboard, mouse and everything! Nothing! <Problem for users with overlay - Pending> Kind of fixed - but not transparencies.

12) Is there instant record (while you watch)? If not, there should be. Pressing the record button while watching a channel, should start recording until I press stop. Right? (also a "REC" indication on view screen - read 13) - Sub already mentioned this is not yet possible and will be added in the future but I list it anyway as a reminder. Limitation of current version, pending for later version> I think fixed but without any OSD indication.

13) RECORDING SHOULD SHOW ON SCREEN. In all GBPVR screens! If you watch TV, there should be an indication that you are recording (so if you change channel, you screw your recording - the system could let you know and ask if you are sure). Also there should be an indication in main screen and an extra question in PVR programming, so if you select to record something else, the program should let you know that you are already recording and if you want to end the current recording. The least that should be implemented is RECORDING INDICATION, in all screens. Checks etc. could come later. <Personal preference, although I guess public demand, for wishlist - Pending> [Image: rock.gif]

14) Nothing. Keep up the good work! (I didn't want to stop at 13) When should we wait for the next release? :-P <blip>

:-)

Phew... finished. I hope sub takes the time to answer most of the above (if not all).

  Problems When Recording Season
Posted by: steve1999_CA - 2004-11-14, 03:51 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

If I'm in the TV guide and I tell it to record a show once it works fine.

If I tell it to record a season it registers my recording, but my MediaMVP immediatly starts looking for servers and spends 15 seconds or so looking and then comes back to the main screen.

This didn't happen early in the week when I first got the equipment but has been 100% consistent in the last half of the week.

  Simple question about EPG update
Posted by: JorgV - 2004-11-14, 02:47 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Simple question:
Say, my EPG-update is at 0300am. I don't want to wake my computer for that ('cause I'm sleeping next to it ;-)).

Does GB-PVR automatically update the EPG the next chance it gets, say when I turn on my computer (at 0900am, for instance)?

Thanks!

  Bug with cancelling scheduled recordings?
Posted by: JorgV - 2004-11-14, 01:25 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Last night I canceled a recording about 2 minutes before the pre-padding record of the show was about to start. It dissappeared in GB-PVR. But the recording service started to record anyway. I started GB-PVR, but could find no mention of the recording anymore, nore some notification that a recording was taking place.

To stop the recording, I closed the recordingservice (tray-application). About ten minutes later, I noticed that there STILL was some recording going on (HD-activity, and file-size of the mpeg was still increasing). I opened the windows taskmanager, and in "Processes" I still saw the GB-PVR recording service. I had to kill that process to stop the recording...

But I think the problem was with the original 'cancel' in GB-PVR, which apparently didn't work well... just to let you know!

  Hibernate
Posted by: JorgV - 2004-11-14, 01:18 PM - Forum: Wishlist - No Replies

Don't know if this has come up yet, but a "hibernate" or "poweroff" after record function should be nice.

I know you can set something like that in the Windows control panel, but that doesn't work all the time. With a wireless mouse for instance (has already been mentioned), or a download-manager running in the background...

I used to use iuVCR (http://www.iulabs.com), which had this function (power off or hibernate after record).

That shouldn't be too hard?

Thanks!

Server problems in MCE 2005 (SP2 issue?)
Posted by: Exirion - 2004-11-14, 01:17 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

GBPVR cannot do LiveTV because it cannot communicate with the recording server. Is this a known issue? I assume it has something to do with SP2. How to fix it?

  EPG update irregular
Posted by: NLS - 2004-11-14, 10:23 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Since I don't have a standard time that I update my EPG xml (the computer connected to the internet is different than my HTPC and a batch file does what is needed), I wonder if GBPVR is able to do any of the following:

- update EPG from the XML when GBPVR (the program no the service) starts

- update when I tell it to (maybe through command line), not having to go inside all this depth (open config, go capture sources, select source, edit source, press update EPG, close them all)

a nice thing would be to add the option to update EPG on the task bar icon menu of the service (not useful to me, but would be nice to have)

or maybe even a plugin (button) inside GBPVR (not a very stylish solution but interesting to have) to press and make it update EPG from the XML (or maybe just call a batch to do it?)

I was surprised as #### to see this:
http://www.ascent.co.nz/mn-product-spec.asp?pid=335173

and at 2/3 the price of a PVR-350. It does not show as in stock (says email for availability).

Sub, would you expect this to work with GBPVR?

Cheers,
JohnO

  API Docs for GBPVR
Posted by: KingArgyle - 2004-11-14, 05:36 AM - Forum: Forum Issues & Documentation - Replies (8)

I've used ASMDoc and NDoc to create HTML documentation from the GBPVR assemblies used in the Web application. If it is alright with Sub, I can upload the zip file to the Wiki, so that an online reference for the API exists. It's easy enough to rerun whenever a new release is made.

This just gives the classes, methods, properites, and fields of each of the assemblies, no details or descriptions of what they actually do. Helpful though for a quick reference to see what a method will return.

Again, I won't upload it unless Sub gives his okay.
