  SVCDs?
Posted by: thisguy - 2004-10-27, 02:50 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

So I've done a bit of reading, but I'm still confused. What do I need to do to record and burn svcds? Do I have to setup a custom setting for the recordings ing GBPVR? Any idea what kind of settings will give optimum quality (and is that quality still viewable)? Then what programs (preferably free ones) do I need to get the file read and/or burn it to CD?

As usual, thanks for the help,
Guy

PS...Unrelated question: does GBPVR support playlists in the music player that comes with it (or is there a different plugin jukebox that does)?

  Processor & RAM recommendations
Posted by: paultnl - 2004-10-26, 09:39 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (5)

Hi all and thanks to Sub for GB-PVR.

I am making a dedicated PVR box for the living room and have just taken delivery of an Asus Pundit[/URL] barebone system to which I will add a Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 160GB drive and a Hauppauge 350 from my old system.

Can anyone give me some recommendations for the processor, memory size/speed and DVD burner.

I will post pictures and decriptions as the build progresses.

Thanks,

Paul

  Screen resolution
Posted by: web_maven - 2004-10-26, 08:26 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

What is the best screen resolution for the system.

The problem is when I play back Letterbox I get a dark black band at the top and bottom AND I get a lighter dark band at the top and bottom of the video it's self (two distinct black borders). I understand why I would get one row of dark bands but not two. Videos that are full screen work great.

Has anybody a girder file for XCard?
Posted by: Knaub - 2004-10-26, 06:35 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Hi,

I'am just setting up my htpc using XCard for output and PVR350 for cable tv input.
I'd like to use the XCard remote with gb-pvr.
I know there is no support in gb-pvr for XCard remote, a thing I don't really understand
because I think it's much better than the PVR remote.
But the available girder software is able to access gb-pvr.
I downloaded the gbpvr.gml file and opened it in girder, but
I am not that familiar with girder.

So my question is, has anybody set up the gml-file with the
XCard remote, so I don't have to do it again?

Regards, Knaub

  MVP Menu Store
Posted by: darrenkarp - 2004-10-26, 04:33 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (2)

Hi,

Is it possible (and if not, why not?) to store the menus of GBPVR on the MVP itself rather than it coming from the server?

TIA!

Does Hauppauge PVR150 work with GBPVR?
Posted by: rune - 2004-10-26, 01:28 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (1)

I'm helping a friend build a HTPC, though about getting a PVR250 for him as he doesn't need the S-video out of the 350.

But our local pusher didn't stock 250 anymore, replaced by the new PVR150.

Does this (very cheap) card work with GBPVR?

  PVR350  TV out quality
Posted by: bishop - 2004-10-26, 01:12 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

Thanks to assistance from a number of people in this forum I understand that I can use GB-PVR and a PVR350 without a monitor and by using the TV out on the PVR350 I can see both GB-PVR on my TV and the subsequent playback. However I recently connected my nvidia graphics card using the tv out and s video to my TV and the output was terible. I understand this is not uncommon due to a number of well documented issues. My question, is anyone currently doing the above using the PVR350 onto a widescreen TV and what is their experience with picture quality of both the TV playback and the GB-PVR interface?

  CD playback and ripping
Posted by: Dai - 2004-10-26, 12:36 PM - Forum: Wishlist - No Replies

I would like to see CD playback and CD ripping in GBPVR.

I have the basics of a CD player plugin written using MCI but half way through, thought that this is perhaps something that would be better in the core of GBPVR as it would want to handled like DVD playback. The major problem I have with it is that you'd want GBPVR to go to the CD screen and start playing when a CD is inserted and I can't see a way to do that.

What do you think sub, is it worth doing as a plug in or is it something would want to do in the core?

Also, does anyone know of a good command line CD ripper as this would be the easiest way of providing a plugin. I'd be happy to write the plugin if someone can recommend a command line tool.

Be glad of any thoughts,

Thanks

Dai
