I posted details of this problem in this post, but got no response. Am I the only one experiencing this? Am I the only one to care? If no one else uses this feature, I guess I'll just shut up and hope it gets fixed someday!

I just downloaded the latest GB-PVR, hoping it would be fixed but it's not. Very simply, in the 'configuration' utility, I set a pre-show minutes and a post-show minutes of '3'. I then go into manual recording, and setup a recording for (eg) 9:00 to 9;30, each day. The first show records from exactly (*) 9:00 to 9:30, which means I often miss the very beginning. The second and all subsequent shows record from (eg) 8:57 to 9:33, as you would expect.

(*)-'exactly' - actually, starts around 9:00:30 (30 seconds after 9:00), probably needs to 'warm up' the tuner or something?

My current work-around is to choose to record from 8:50 to 9:40, which wastes a lot of space. Actually, my current work-around is to use WinTVCap, but I'm finding that the quality of the GB-PVR recordings is better, so I'd really like to get this figured out with GB-PVR !

I am building my own PVR and after a lot of research have narrowed down my best options to to using the PVR-350/250  + Media-MVP from Hauppauge with GB-PVR Software ( based primarily on a very good byopvr.com website article).  However, I do have a few questions  I am hoping to get answers to here:

(1) Let us say I use just the PVR-350 Card (no Media-MVP) and use its TV Out feature  to playback on a TV.  Would the GB-PVR interface be displayed on the TV or would it only display on the PC monitor ?  
(2) If yes for 1 above and if the  TV and PC are in the same room  can I use the PVR-350 Remote to control the GB-PVR Interface Menu (pointing the remote towards the PC) ?

(3) Would I be able to watch, pause and record Live TV using just the TV (not the PC Monitor ) with just the PVR-350 (tv-out enabled) and the GB-PVR or do I also need to buy the Media-MVP for this to happen ?

I know the Media-MVP does a lot more than just play/record live TV - but I am not interested in its other features ( play MP3s, display Photos etc).  

So basically, I am just interested in doing all my playback/recording using the TV and not the PC monitor and want to know if this is possible using just the PV-350 with GB-PVR and the supplied remote.

The other confusing thing about the Media-MVP is that it has a MPEG decoder - but apparently so does the PVR-350 for the TV-Out.  So if I do use a Media-MVP the PVR-350 would be a waste (other than the FM tuner and radio) so I suppose I should only purchase the less expensive PVR-250 ?

I see the mute function bound inside the irremote.ini file (MUTE=m) but I didn't see it in the key bindings FAQ. Is a mute function implemented in the current version of GB-PVR? Also, is there a way to adjust the contrast/brightness of live TV?

Should the MVP boot from the GB-PVR service or does it need to boot from the Hauppauge service? I was under the impression that it would boot from GB-PVR but the other night I powered it down (unpluged it from the wall) to move it and when I powered it back up it would not boot (stuck on the Searching for Bootserver message) until I started the Hauppauge service. Then it booted, I killed the Hauppauge service, and was back up with GB-PVR. I have a dongle.bin in C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Dongle which I believe is the same file as in C:\Program Files\Hauppauge MediaMVP\Hardware.

Not a major problem, just wondering if perhaps I need to configure something diffeently.

I started adding several programs to record my shows.  All were recurring in time slot and following adding about 10 programs, GB-PVR no longer functioned correctly; that is, I could not watch live tv and the tv guide was blank.  All of the programs displayed as failed, even though they were in the future?  I uninstalled, reinstalled, which created a new mdb and renamed the old.  All then worked, and then I renamed both files to replicate and sure enough the original caused the error.  I opened the db and viewed the programs, some of the date fields had a date but lacked a time.  I still have the file if you want it (8MB).  Several shows butt up against one another and they all had the 1 min overlap before and after.  Not sure how that gets resolved.

Another issue with the scheduler grid.  I record the West Wing on Bravo at 11am EST to 12pm EST.  Another episode always airs right after from 12pm to 1pm EST.  In this case, both shows display as being recorded even though I only want the 11am.

This was true also for multiple shows in a row as well, like WW at 10pm, 11pm and 12pm would all show as to be recorded if I select the 11pm show only to record.  (Thinking the 1 min overlap perhaps.)

Once a 200GB drive is filled with recordings, the existing recordings options become a bit slow and tedious on an MVP.

The key issue I have is as recordings accumulate, the most recent and most commonly used recordings become harder to get to.

Hopefully thanks to the great plugin structure, I'll get around to writing one specific to my needs, including groups, listings more like the tvguide displaying descriptions, disk space etc, however in the meantime one or more of the following would be very helpfull in the existing system.

a) If pressing the up arrow at the top, move to the bottom entry. (eg one press to get to the end)

b) Perhaps a button allocated to get to the bottom.

c) Skip allocated to pageup/pagedown?

d) An option to reverse the list, eg most recent recordings at the top.

Obviously any one of these will be of help to what I assume is an issue for anyone with many recordings.

I've been using GBPVR for 2 months...works great, I've not posted before but read thru the forums...your support is unprecedanted.I'm using a pvr350 and everything was working fine until I installed Panda Titanium Internet Security.When I try to watch LIVE TV or click on a schedule to watch a programme...the hdd lights flicker but GBPVR freezes. There is nothing in the log files(unless I missed it),but I found this in XP's application log under a GB-PVR Recording Error heading:

Service cannot be started. System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted
  at System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels.Tcp.TcpServerChannel.StartListening(Object data)
  at System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels.Tcp.TcpServerChannel.SetupChannel()

However WinTV2000 still works. It makes no difference to GB-PVR if I disable Panda...it will only work if I remove it.

I've made dozens of recordings from my WinTV 250 PVR card using both GB-PVR and WinTVCap (I've had to switch to WinTVCap until I can figure out why the pre-show / post-show minutes are not being honored on my recordings).

I've noticed that my WinTVCap recordings are VBR by default. The WinTVCap.ini file allows me to adjust the setting as follows:

BitrateMode = 1 // 0:CBR, 1:VBR

Is there a similar change I can make in GB-PVR? I don't see this in 'direct.ini'. GB-PVR's recordings are CBR by default.

I must say, the quality of the WinTVCap recordings are not as good ... there is something of a 'red tone' which is not there on the GB-PVR recordings. However, I can't trace this to any difference in settings, other than the VBR/CBR one ... and I can't imagine why that would result in a red tone! I searched the forum for "VBR" but got only one hit.

I'm assuming that both WinTVCap and GB-PVR should produce very similar results assuming similar recording settings ... or is that a naive notion ...? Maybe GB-PVR does some nice image equalization or something before writing out the data ...?

I'm going to download the latest version now to see if it fixes the pre-show/post-show minutes issue.

When multiple reoccurring recordings are scheduled and some shows conflict with others, how does one ascertain what will be recorded over the other and is there a way to change those priorities?
