Recordings stopped, now black screen when on Live TV in NextPVR
Posted by: lamprizzle - 2017-05-05, 10:14 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (11)

I first noticed this on Thurs night 5/3, when I had two shows recording from 9-10 pm and I was watching one of them pretty close to real time. At about 9:50, the playback simply stopped without me touching anything and went back to the program's info popup screen. It wouldn't start again (just black screen). The other show that was set to record ended prematurely at about the same time. The following night, no shows recorded successfully at all. They'd show up in the list of recorded shows, but they showed black when trying to play them back.

I tried a few things like rebooting, rescanning channels, and restarting the NPVR service, but I still couldn't get Friday night's recordings to play or live TV to work.

Friday night's recordings are listed, but say Failed and "No errors, but no data delivered. This is usually because the device failed to lock a signal."

Today, from the TV Guide, I select a currently airing show, choose Watch, I see a "please wait" for maybe 5-8 seconds, then the screen goes black and nothing happens.

The same thing happens when I choose Live TV.

I did notice there were only about 5 GB left on my hard drive, but I've cleaned up and the problem persists.

Recordings from prior to Thursday play back fine.

NextPVR version 3.9.2. Windows 7 64-bit. A Hauppage that I'm not using and a Ceton InfiniTV quad tuner that I am using. Logs attached. Thanks!

Questions about transcoding from IPTV sources
Posted by: JP23 - 2017-05-03, 02:54 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (32)

Hi,

I have a channel set up with the IPTV device which will play when the type is set to 'Internet Source IPTV', but not when the type is set to H264. It is a .ts stream.
I can see that when using 'Internet Source IPTV', the stream is being transcoded on the fly, but this is using close to 100% CPU.

If I capture a stream from the same source using VLC and tell it to capture the original audio and video tracks, it shows video codec of H264 MPEG-4 AVC and audio codec of MPEG AAC (mp4a).
If I look at the codec information for a recording or live-tv buffer file produced by NPVR for the same source, the codec information is exactly the same, as is the framerate and resolution.

So my questions are:

What is ffmpeg actually doing here which enables NPVR to be able to handle the stream, given that the original source is a .ts containing the same codecs?

Is it potentially possible to adjust the transcoding such that the original audio and video tracks are passed through and the process is less CPU intensive?

NextPVR settings -> devices does not find HDHR connect
Posted by: GoatBreath - 2017-05-01, 04:18 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

First time poster here - been trying to get nextpvr working and integrated with kodi so I can compare to plexdvr.

I am using an HDHOMERUN CONNECT as the tuner and am trying to get the nextpvr service to recognize the tuner (on my HTPC, an i5-7600 running windows 10). At present the only device that shows up in the devices list is "IPTV Device". Windows defender is configured to let NextPVR.exe, NRecord.exe and NDigitalHost.exe through. The HD HOMERUN device is set to 'default' rather than 'NextPVR'.

Curiously, my older computer recognizes the tuners just fine (Silicondust HDHomeRun Tuner 1049245C in both ATSC and QAM types on both tuners) in addition to the IPTV device, and I am able to proceed to channel scanning and so on. Sadly, its the new computer that is going to be the HTPC so I need to get it working on that.

Both computers are on the same network switch on my home network.

The regular hdhomerun addon in kodi works fine on both computers, so the HTPC clearly can find the tuner, but the NextPVR backend doesn't see it for some reason. After scouring the forums here and on silicondust, I didn't see any post that seemed to address this problem.

I took a quick look through the log files, and the computer with working settings clearly finds the TV tuners in the digital tuner section, while the failed settings computer (HTPC) does not. It does, however, seem to find something under "DRI devices", but nothing ultimately shows up in the devices UI.

I have attached 2 logs - one from the HTPC that doesn't work (failedsettings) and one from the one that does (working settings).

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!

Help with full screen mode showing menus but no video
Posted by: JB06176 - 2017-04-30, 08:48 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (8)

For the last several months NextPVR works fine running as a window in Windows 10 but when expanded to full screen mode shows only the main menu screen (or the last menu screen that was used prior to expanding to full screen mode). Sound from the recording/video continues but I can't see the video. If I exit full screen mode and return to a window, the video is shown again but as a smaller inset next to the menu.

This problem has been present for several months since I was having difficulty with Next PVR crashing with video playback (which it now appears was related to a change in the AC3 decoder from windows after a windows update). I wonder if during my troubleshooting I inadvertently changed a setting.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I might remedy this problem?

Many thanks for your consideration.

Wake up NextPVR when Kodi plays Live TV
Posted by: fla - 2017-04-30, 05:03 PM - Forum: Kodi / XBMC - Replies (10)

Enhancement Request:

I do not know the architecture of the NextPVR Kodi addon but would it be possible to automatically wake up the NextPVR backend server when starting to play live TV on Kodi? Right now the Kodi screen will freeze for a minute or two if the NextPVR server has slept. When it comes back you can run a separate addon "Advanced Wake on LAN" or pretend to access pictures, videos, music on the server and Kodi will automatically wake up the server. It would be nice if the NextPVR backend would wake up and live TV just worked albeit with the wake up delay.

Ability to control which drives are included in "largest free space" pool
Posted by: BrettB - 2017-04-29, 06:27 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (2)

I got 3 drives on my NPVR server that I use for recordings. All 3 have have directories defined in the Extra Recording Directories. 1 of the drives is larger and slower, and I use it for long-term archiving, etc. 2 of the drives are smaller and faster and I use them for all of the active recordings by manually switching the default recording directory back and forth between them. I can't just use the "Record to directory with largest free space option" because then all of the recordings would go to my archive drive which isn't fast enough to handle the multiple simultaneous recordings.

It would be nice to be able to specify which directories/drives should be included in the "largest free space" pool used for that recording directory option.

NextPVR - Kodi plugin - Sync Recurring Timers
Posted by: MikeM - 2017-04-28, 10:23 AM - Forum: Kodi / XBMC - Replies (1)

I installed NextPVR and the Kodi plugin for NextPVR on both of my PC's. I can't seem to get it so that programming a timer in one place shows up in all 4 places. For example;

I program a timer in Kodi then look in NextPVR on the same machine and it doesn't show in either the guide or under recurring Recordings. Same is true if I proram the timer in NextPVR - it doesn't show up in Kodi.

How can I link everything together so it all works in sync?

Next PVR web server (access listings/recordings from remote PCs) doesn't always start
Posted by: martinu - 2017-04-28, 09:45 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (5)

I'm running NextPVR 3.9.2 on a Windows 7 PC. On the Settings | Clients page, I've enabled Web Server, using the default port 8866. The PC is hard-coded (by address reservation on my router) so it is always given the same IP address.

Other PCs and my mobile phone can browse to 192.168.1.8:8866 and see the listings and the recordings - usually...

But after a reboot of the NextPVR PC (eg after a power cutSad) the web server does not always seem to work. I can see this by running a TCP port-finder such as NMAP: the PC not listening on port 8866, which it normally does. Even if I run a browser on the NextPVR PC (as opposed to another one), there's no response.

Everything else works: the server can still access the recording device, it can still get listings updates. The recording service is running. The NextPVR console application is running. Other TCP services such as SMB/NetBios (for \\server\share access to folders) work fine.

The only remedy I've found is to kill the Ntray process and restart the NPVR recording service (which restarts Ntray), in the hope that eventually the web server will start listening on port 8866 - usually three or four kill/restart cycles will eventually kick it into action.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what other diagnostics I could run.

Live TV does not work in Kodi
Posted by: UncT - 2017-04-27, 06:46 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

Recordings work but when I try to watch live TV in Kodi, the status screen shows that it is being sent but the computer with Kodi on it just spins the wait symbol. I am using Kodi 17.1 on a windows 10 machine with the NPVR server on a windows 7 machine. Attached are the log files from the server.

  Does app actually skip commercials?
Posted by: ww4397 - 2017-04-27, 12:07 PM - Forum: NextPVR iOS and AppleTV Clients - Replies (7)

Great app, Sub!

I see the comskip commercial break marks when viewing a show but the commercials are not skipped. Is there a setting somewhere to turn this feature on? I couldn't find one. I searched this forum but couldn't find an answer.

Thanks.
