Any advice for backing up NPVR settings before a clean re-install of Windows?
Posted by: tinstaafl - 2016-11-07, 01:51 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (8)

I'm having some issues with my NPVR PC randomly hanging/freezing. I am about to try a clean re-install of Windows 7 as a last resort. I have a recent disk image © backup if this all goes south, so no fear :-)

I have already swapped the RAM and motherboard, as well as installed the latest motherboard chipset drivers inf files, the latest nVidia graphic adapter drivers, and the latest Hauppauge USB Dual HD drivers. I may try swapping out the PSU, but am asking this question in advance, so I can prepare for a complete rebuild.

Q: What folders should I save and copy to a fresh install of NPVR after the re-install to keep all of my NPVR recordings and Schedules Direct program guide settings intact? The actual TV shows are recorded on separate volumes from my Windows boot and programs © drive and will not be impacted.

Channel and Sub-channel suddenly not working
Posted by: spinnaker - 2016-11-06, 09:43 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (13)

I have a channel and Sub-channel suddenly not working. This same channel works fine in WMC with the same system and tuner. This is one of the strongest signals in the region.

I get no sound and a black screen in live TV. Recording gives me a 0 byte file.

All other channels work great, even the ones with weak signal.

I tried:
Rebooting
Reinstall of NPVR
Device Setup
Update EPG

Nothing seems to work. This is the first channel in my channel lineup.

Local KDKA 2.1 and 2.2

Freq:25 SID:1
Freq:25 SID:1

and

Freq:25 SID:2
Freq:25 SID:2

are in my settings

I have version 3.83 installed.

  Signal Meter software?
Posted by: Mugsy323 - 2016-11-06, 08:34 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (7)

I need some simple "signal strength" software to help me properly align my outdoor antenna.

Unfortunately, the only such software I've found is ONLY for Hauppaugh tuners, and that isn't what I'm using. I've just purchased an "antenna rotator" to adjust the direction of my antenna for the best possible reception for each channel (no more sacrificing a few stations because they just happen to be coming from the wrong direction.) Because of this, simply going by "which direction picks up the most stations" isn't what I need.

The signal strength indicator built into WMC isn't terribly useful, since it doesn't show the affects of adjustments in real time, and only shows the strength while scanning ALL channels. Sad

Does anyone know of any decent signal strength software that'll show me in real time the best position(s) for my antenna?

Nextpvr keeps putting win 10 PC to sleep when accessing recordings over LAN
Posted by: eastavin - 2016-11-06, 07:48 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (10)

Hello. wondering if anyone can offer a suggestion? I have a win 10 pc setup with Nextpvr on Ethernet and it appears to work as expected provided I am at the controls in front of the pc. However if I connect to the PC by LAN from elsewhere in the house NextPVR plays the screens at port 8866 for 5 minutes or a little less and then puts the pc to sleep. It will even put the pc to sleep if I start streaming a recording to myself over the lan. If I send it a WOL magic packet it comes back to life and I can get it going again (but not elegantly) for a few minutes until it goes to sleep again.

Yes of course I have the sleep setting in Power set for 5 minutes. However in my thinking the PC is not idle in this case and so should stay powered on.

Thanks for any ideas.

Issues related to EDT to EST time zone change
Posted by: johnsta - 2016-11-06, 03:20 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (5)

The clocks were set back one hour last night, and this morning several
scheduling problems arose.

The first and most obvious one is that manually scheduled recordings
are now scheduled for an hour earlier. Thus, "BBC-8-10am" in the
recurring_recording table is shown with a StartTime of 12:00 (GMT) and
an EndTime of 14:00, which is 8-10am in EDT and is correct, but is
7-9am in EST, which is not correct.

I have a bunch of these, so this is quite a mess. I'm trying to think
of the easiest fix. The one I'm currently considering is to write a
script that finds all the manually scheduled records in
recurring_recording, and increases the StartTime and EndTime by one
hour. Then I could run the script in reverse in the springtime. I'm
going to let things sit for a few days and see how things work out,
and perhaps try this idea next weekend. If anyone has any better
suggestions, let me know.

The second issue is that a number of network shows are simply not
being recorded. They're simply being skipped, with no reason given,
even though they're shown as "New" in the nextpvr UI grid. Here's a
typical log entry after running with the -recurring option:

Code:
2016-11-06 07:58:39.159 [INFO][1] UpdateRecurringRecording(258, 'Criminal Minds'): <Rules> <EPGTitle>Criminal Minds</EPGTitle> <ChannelOID>8909</ChannelOID> <ChannelName>CBS4</ChannelName> <StartTime>2016-11-10T02:00:00.0000000Z</StartTime> <EndTime>2016-11-10T03:00:00.0000000Z</EndTime> <PrePadding>1</PrePadding> <PostPadding>2</PostPadding> <Quality>0</Quality> <Keep>0</Keep> <OnlyNewEpisodes>true</OnlyNewEpisodes> </Rules> 2016-11-06 07:58:39.570 [DEBUG][1] LoadListingsMatchingTitle(channel=8909,title=Criminal Minds) 2016-11-06 07:58:39.572 [DEBUG][1] - Potential episode at: 11/9/2016 9:00:00 PM 2016-11-06 07:58:39.573 [DEBUG][1] ...check IsValid() 2016-11-06 07:58:39.573 [DEBUG][1] ...already got this episode: EP007537910276 (recently deleted) 2016-11-06 07:58:39.573 [DEBUG][1] ...already got this episode scheduled

(I don't know why it shows a StartTime date of 11-10, since I
scheduled this program on 9/28, at the beginning of the season, and
several shows have already been recorded.)

This was a brand new episode, never previously recorded, and is shown
as "New" in the UI grid. However, that episode number EP007537910276
does appear in the "recently_deleted" table for whatever reason,
possibly some bug related to setting the clock back.

One thing that I do that's non-standard is that I have a script that
runs automatically twice a day and moves all the "*.ts" files into
other directories. I've been doing this from day one with nextpvr,
and it's never caused me any problems. But perhaps this new problem
is related to that.

Anyway, I fixed this problem by deleting all records in the
recently_deleted table, and that solved the problem.

I noticed that someone else posted a thread this morning in the
"support" forum that says that some shows are not being scheduled.
Perhaps this is the same problem, as this time change is occurring in
much of the country today, while it happened in some European
countries a week ago.

*** Update:

Just before posting this message, I did some further checking, and
apparently there's some confusion in the Schedules Direct listings as
to whether the 11/9 episode is a repeat of the previous week's
episode. On the other hand, the same problem occurred with other
programs, such as "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" for which there
is clearly a new episode. Please ignore the second issue for now, and
I'll post more information when I have it, maybe next weekend. I
apologize for any confusion I may have caused.

Some Recurring Recordings Not Recording; Some Pending not Recording; No Conflicts
Posted by: bickertn - 2016-11-06, 01:50 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (8)

Several recurring recordings (Nova, Ask This Old House, +...) are working, 2 are not. No conflicts identified. Using "schedules direct" for my guide. Logs are attached.

"Noticias Telemundo" (WNEU - M-F 6:30 - 7PM) shows as "recurring" and "pending" - but isn't recording. It is scheduled at the same time as "Noticias Univision" (WUNI - M-F 6:30 - 7PM). I have a Hauppauge WinTV Dual HD - so I thought they'd both record, but only Univision gets recorded. I also visually scanned "pending" for potential conflicts and saw none.

"Noticias Telemundo Fin de Semana (WNEW - Sat/Sun 5 - 5:30PM) shows as "recurring" but not "pending." It isn't recording.

I found a related posting, "Recurring recordings not scheduling? Started by mattyb, 2016-09-11 03:52 AM" I don't think it applies because I didn't delete any recordings; at least I don't think so. Is there a way to check? This earlier posting also references using the "NextPVR.exe -removehistory" command to clear out that history and then "NextPVR.exe -updateepg" to have it reprocess and reschedule all of the recurring recordings." Not sure I want/need to try this but if so, I'm unclear how to do it; more detailed steps would be helpful and appreciated.

How can I fix whatever is blocking these recordings?
Thanks,
Bob

Missing recordings and Partial EPG update
Posted by: Ericktreetops - 2016-11-06, 06:01 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (8)

I notice a few here that are having the same issue as me.
In that the nightly EPG is not able to refresh the epg completely after it does a rescan.
It then goes and deletes scheduled programs I assume because it believes that they are no longer valid.

Here is the EPG for Next Monday about 8am created at 2:30 this morning

Here you can see a scheduled recording for he Late Show. Which is not expecting any episodes for the next seven days.

Then i run a manual epg update

Here is the epg for the same day ..ie Next Monday about 8am

As you can see it has now found all the information.

When i now look at the scheduled recordings for the Tonight show you can see that there are a few

There is at least one other post complaining about the same issue with a failed suggestion to increase the time scan time value
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...artial-EPG

here is also a link to a cutdown version of my recording log.

https://1drv.ms/u/s!ApXAQQ5XQRNGlUyylyljeX_owKaM

It apears to be a bug and i suspect affecting more people than myself. As it only seems to occur for certain channels each night my issue can't be an isolated case.

Can some one assist me with this ?

erick
