Hi

Have recently updated to latest 95.14 release and have observed a bug-ette with the EPG download from broadcast function.

Previously I have not had this work but the new relaease does seem to download some listings.

Noticed that during the Update EPG routine the config dialog puts up a window and each channel is "listened to" for 120secs during which time listings are downloaded.

On this version I noticed that after a few channels had been so scanned the download lsitings dialog said "writing listings to database or similar" but then one of the channels in the list had been renamed to channel "8". There was previously no such channel. I was also surprised to notice that not all channels were "listened to". I had about 20 in my list and only about 8 were scanned. Im also fairly sure that channels not ticked in my channel list in the cpature device dialog appeared in the EPG - which is odd.

Tried this a couple of times and the rename to channel "8" was repeatable. Also had a lock up on one scan but that might be coincidence. Maybe a spelling mistake has crept into the code.

Card in question is a Nova-T 90002.

Haven't yet tried EPG from satellite - not sure there would be enough space on my hard disk for the resulting channel list - or that I have enough time left alive to sort the channel data.

Hope this feedback helps.

With DVB, several channels are broadcasts at the same time in one big 'transport stream'. When GB-PVR records these channels, it just splits out the video and audio stream its interested in, and combines them into a single file.

As well as containing multiple channels, it also contains other information such as EPG entries for the various channels in the transport stream, and various other information such as teletext, DVB subtitles, MHEG, network information etc. So, GB-PVR only needs to listen to the single transport stream to get EPG entries for a several channels. Your 20 or so channels are spread across 8 or so of these muxes (transport streams).

I dont get what you saying here. Can you explain to me what you mean in more detail? If possible, post screenshots.

Kev - there has always been a channel '8' but GB-PVR never found it before the PSIParser method. If you have a Freeview STB (I presume you haven't) you'll see it was where Freeview Teletext used to be. It now just shows a static message saying 'We have moved'. Teletext on Freeview went to pages 100+.

Many thanks guys.

Wasn't aware there was a channel 8. It did not show up in the channel scan I did before epg update.

Here are some screenshots which explain my garbled message above.

Note the short list of channels pre epg grab.

then it broke.

Then I ran it again see how one of the channels has been renamed to channel 8 and my channel list has grown - I have scrolled to the bottom of the list. Grown channel list has enabled ticked on added channels. Woulnt be an issue if they were unticked.

What you're seeing (apart from the crash Smile ) is expected behaviour.

You said in your first post that you hadn't got this to work before 0.95.14 which makes me think the channels you already had in your list were from Bleb or an XMLTV import. Correct?

First the channel '8' mystery - if you look at your JPG file, you'll see that no channel gets renamed - '8' is simply inserted between BBC THREE and BBC FOUR (which is actually where it appears on my STB).

What you're seeing with the DVB EPG import is information for every channel broadcast - it's not selective. Whatever you don't want, just uncheck the enabled box.

As far as the number of things being scanned goes - you will only see 6 and each is an individual MUX (aka transponder). Each MUX is effectively a single UHF transmitter using one UHF frequency which has a whole bunch of digital channels multiplexed onto it. Some carry more than others - DVB radio requires less of a digital 'bandwidth' so the MUXs with radio on show a lot more channels.

Hope that explains it.

Many thanks Brian for your fine explanation. I will look harder at the list.

I had (before observing the 8 channel, as I incorrectly thought, being, inserted) removed all of my TV cards from the capture devices and ensured that the list of channels in the channels tab was empty.

Then I added the NovaT card and grabbed channel list - which in my case comes from 6 transponders at Sandy Heath.

Then I ticked the ones I wanted and this short list then appeared in the channels list as expected.

Only when I download the EPG data for my selected channels do the additional channels get added. As you say I can easily prevent them being added to my EPG window by unticking them manually. Hopefully subsequent epg downloads will not retick them.

Many thanks for your kind help.

Regards

This only happens in the config app, not when you do an normal EPG update (over night etc).

Many thanks Sub,

Ideal behaviour I would say.
