I put the dongle.bin from your latest mvpmc alpha release into the "...\gbpvr\Dongle" directory, and used the gbpvr config app to select it for use. I placed a text file named "dongle.bin.config", in DOS format, in a shared folder named "mvpmc". The file contained the following text, based on a previous post of yours in this thread:
Code:
mvpmc --emulate ?
--startup emulate

I made sure that the "guest" account is on and gbpvr was running on my pc, then I power cycled the mvp. The "loading application" and "starting application" screens appeared on the mvp, as usual, then a blue rectangle with "www.mvpmc.org" in cursive lower-case white letters was displayed for about a minute, followed by a black screen showing various info in green letters, with a progress bar at the bottom. Then, instead of going into emulation mode and displaying the gbpvr main menu, it showed the mvpmc main menu.

I also tried the settings screen in mvpmc, but it still will not start in emulation mode. I would appreciate it if you could help me figure out what I might be doing wrong.

Keep that all on the same line and it will start up in emulation mode.

Code:
mvpmc --emulate ? --startup emulate

works for me.

What bofh says about the command line is true, but if it takes a minute to load you probably aren't even copying the config file. You can tell this if your menu is full of alot of options. If setting up a Windows share is a problem, I'm trying to help someone connect a share on an mvpmc support forum http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4040395

You should be able to setup the autostart of emulation mode by pointing your web browser at mvpmc's ip and

1. ticking the Emulate box,
2. set Startup to Emulate and
3. add either ? or the GBPVR IP to "MVP Server IP:" box

The next time you use to remote to power off and on the mvp it should startup in emulation mode. Note that this will not survive a hard reboot for now, but we are working with Hauppauge to store all of the config information in flash, in a way which will not interfere with the Hauppauge data stored there.

Martin: (or someone else who has this working)

WHat is the setup you are using?
Simple file sharing on or off?
Is your guest password "guest" or blank?

My server is setup with a mvpmc share, and guest account is active and has read/write access to the share mvpmc. This was verified using the tool under sharing-> security->advanced->last tab (forgot the name), where you enter the user or group name and XP interpretrs all the security rules in effect and indicated what kind of access that group/user has for that folder, based on which groups they are part of , inherited parent folder properties, etc.

I've got simple file sharing turned off.

Guest still can't mount the mvpmc share (or any share), from mvpmc, or from another Linux box I have. As a normal user, I can mount the mvpmc share just fine.
Guest can mount shares on another windows box, but not this one.
I've set the password on the guest account to "guest" or to blank, with little change. When using other Linux box, I get the message "anonymouns login successful", the "tree failure access denied"

So, guest has priviliges, exists, is active, allows logins, and doesn't have a hidden rule somewhere blocking access.
Command line syntax is correct, since Guest can mount shares on other boxes.
Shares are set up correctly, since user other than guest can mount them.

I think the guest account is broken somehow, but I can't find where.

Next step is to delete guest account (if I can), reboot, check if guest was recreated. Switch back to simple file sharing, to create guest account. reboot.
Switch back to normal file sharing.

I use Normal file sharing so that My documents follows the user which ever computer they log into. With My wife and I and two teenagers doing homework being able to use any available computer is a benefit.

I had tried the settings screen you access on the mvp, not the web based one. I couldn't access that, until I realized that the mvp had to be turned on. Since I can telnet in to the mvp when it's off (while the mvpmc dongle is loaded), I thought I could also access it with a web browser while it's off. Live and learn, as the saying goes.

Anyway, it's now starting-up in emulation mode, so now I can try using it with GB-PVR, and help find more bugs..., er, "undocumented features". Big Grin

Until today I had done this with only with XP Home, and two NAS devices, so I couldn't disable SFS. Fortunately Microsoft just released a "free" Virtual PC image of XP Pro so I was able to test with SFS off and it worked too.

Here is all I did (should work in 2000, XP Home and PRO)

Start -> Run shrpubw This opens the Windows Create Shared Folders Wizard. I let the wizard do everything including creating a c:\mvpmc folder. For the folder permissions, I selected "All users have read only access"

Then I placed a dongle.bin.config in the folder and it just works.

Is it possible that you are confusing the Guest login account on the local machine and the network guest account? If the command "net user guest" shows Account Active: No you should enable it as follows:

net user guest /active:yes

Finally to reiterate the dongle.bin.config doesn't have to be complicated for gbpvr use, this one liner should work:

mvpmc --emulate ? --startup emulate

Glad it works, there are positive undocumented features too.

- automatically sends the wake-on-lan command to your pc when emulation mode starts up.
- mute works.
- wide screen signalling in mpegs is detected.
- attempts to reconnect to gbpvr after a problem trying to ff/rw/skip on a mpeg-1.

Net user guest shows the guest account is active.
Guest can mount shares on my other computer.
User can mount shares on the server, and on other comnputer.
BUT
Guest cannot mount any shares on the server, even when set up as you describe.
Permissions are set up the same on server and Other comp., with guest having read/write access to the share.

I just think my server is broken somewhere, beyond the reach of dialog boxes and net user /active commands. Googled to death over several hours.

Thanks for the help, but Bill Gates wins. I give up.

I can still start 'er up manually thru telnet, which is what I'll do. I can mount all the shares I need to using a real username.
