i did actually install wintv just to check it out.. and it does work, so i'm guessing it's gbpvr. i just wish i could find which setting is messing it up

I've had a good look at the logs, but its not immediately obvious what is happening. Because of where the messages stop in your log, I'm guessing there is some funny directshow filter on your machine stuffing it up.

Can you play an MPEG2 file from the Video Library?

I don't know if I have any mpeg2 files... unless the VOB from a DVD image file counts. Should I reinstall completely, repeat my initial configuration, try watching tv, and get the error logs from that?

You could try, but I dont think that your problem is caused by the GB-PVR software, so you're likely to get the same thing again. I'm guessing its some directshow filter/decoder your machine has installed that is stuffing it up.

If you try to record a show, does it create a .mpg file? If so, try playing it. Also try playing it in Windows Media Player.

Ok I've done a few things... uninstalled nero 7 (which is a piece of crap i might add), removed nemo codec pack, and installed k-lite codec pack. the k-lite codec pack thing informed me that ffd was broken in the registry because of christv, so it replaced the invalid entries with hopefully better ones... so i hope that'll help. I'm also currently formatting a partition of my 300GB HDD that i'd allocated a while ago but never used. Hopefully, this will provide a good environment for reinstalling and using GBPVR. Any other advice from people?

You still need to try and record something, checking that it creates a file > 0 bytes and then playing it back to see what happens.

I'm not sure of the codec pack is going to help. they install an assortment of encoders/decoders that may only confuse the issue.

I recorded ten minutes off digital cable. it played back, but only in VLC. gbpvr says the recording failed and wouldn't play back the file (no error message, just FAILED in red next to the file). WMP crashed (as it often does) when i tried to play it

Try to play it in GB-PVR, then post your gbpvr.exe-native.log file so I can check what directshow filters are being used.

Ok, I started over and ran into a problem... It told me it couldn't use Encoder Pass-Through because Microsoft's MPeg-2 DEmultiplexer was missing. I wasn't able to find it. Should I reinstall directx 9.0c?

Actually, I changed the deinterlacing to ffdshow raw video filter and it gave me live tv; huzzah! The quality leaves some to be desired. Am I missing anything by not having encoder pass-through?

Also, I'm using composite-in from the cable box, am i better off using coax? There's also a horizontal line of static at the very top. Anyone know how to get rid of that?

So far, no hiccups... I really like the design of the software (although the OSD can be kind of obtrusive at times). Thanks for helping me out.
