I need major help here. I've asked the forum over at Girder, but its chaotic over there. It appears this topic is going in all different directions, and because this is basically the only program I wanna control with my remote, I'll ask here.

Is it possible to control GB-PVR with the Sony DVD/Playstation 2 remote control? Here is the remote I have.

http://www.sportsauthority.com/product/i...Id=2059089

I also have one of those PS2 to USB adapters from Radioshack. Here...

http://www.radioshack.com/sm-psx-to-usb-...36260.html

Girder seems a little confusing, but if I plug the receiver into the adapter then USB into my computer, it almost seems crazy that there isn't way to use it as my GB-PVR remote.

Please help. Thanks,
turkey

you need to look for a driver that will allow the ps2 remote execute commands on your computer. You cant just plug it in and assume that it will work. That said, the ps2 to usb adapter that you mention does come with a driver for the ps2 controller. You may be able to get that to work for you, but i kinda doubt it.

In order for it to work with GBPVR, you need to have the remote trigger keyboard shortcuts: for example, when you press "play" on your remote, the driver/software should virtually press "alt-p" or whatever the shortcut is.

i think your best bet is with girder.

I am now a HIP convert...if the remote can send keyboard messages then HIP should be able to control GBPVR and other applications. Plus it's free and extremely easy to set up if you have a compatible remote.

I've successfully integrated GBPVR, Zoom Player, Media Player Classic, VLC and even ATI MMC with HIP...

You can probably get it working in a day easily.

First,

Can it send keyboard presses? If it can then download HIP from

http://www.byremote.com.au/

then use the keyboard interface, setup a profile and Bob's your uncle.

They've also got a forum so take a look at that one. The developer is really helpful.

Is there a configuration setup for the remote control software?

If not then look for any kind of *.ini file associated with the drivers or software.

For example, the Hauppauge remote has a irremote.ini file in the windows/system32 (??) directory.

Or, open up notepad and start pressing buttons...this isn't definitive though. If at least you can see the numbers then you know that the remote is sendings something.

You can also just try brute force method and install HIP, then try all the different combos - try the keyboard interface first. In this case I would head right over the HIP forums and ask for help there. You'll get advice from the developer personally.

GBPVR works with absolutely any IR remote! To use this feature there is two links what you should click:

http://winlirc.sourceforge.net/

and

http://www.ramscan.com/irex/

First you need to build (DIY!) IR receiver (under €10 and novice could do it in 30min, experienced in 5min!). Second download and install WinLIRC, configure or teach your remote to it. Then download and put in startup IREx and configure it with GBPVR keystrokes.

Thats it! Smile Not out-of-the-box, but doable Smile
--- GBPVR system ---
Server: homemade (ASUS MB, AMD x2 5200+, 4G RAM, 3.2TB RAID5, 1Gbit) + DVB-T Hauppauge HVR1300 (h264 TS) + IPTV
Clients: ASUS Pundit-R (P4 3.2GHz Northwood!, 1G RAM, zero HDD - netboot, WinLIRC to use Hauppauge remote on system without Hauppauge devices) + IBM ThinkPad T42 (pvr over 802.11g) + FSC N560 WM6 (802.11g) + etc Smile

Is there a step by step I can follow to build one? What parts wud I need?

The remote I have has a receiver for it. I plug it into by adapter that then gets connected via USB to the computer.
