Well I've had trouble too getting the MVP to connect to GBPVR many times in the past, and once connected hated powering it off, seemed such a hit and miss affair. And on .97.9 too.

However what fixed it in the past, and again now, was simply putting a dhcp/tftp server up, having the dhcp server specify the tftp server and file (which I copied over), and now it loads 100% of the time. All four of them. Without this, it was maybe it'll load, maybe it won't. Maybe after one load it wont again for hours. Despite getting the right info and connecting to gbpvr.

What file do you put in the TFTP server the dongle.bin? Also any rec. for a DHCP and TFTP server?

OK, like many of you, I've had problems getting a reliable connection to the MVP. Most of my problems have been related to dongle downloads. Here's what I've done:
Grabbed tftpd32.exe from http://tftpd32.jounin.net/.
Disabled my dhcp server on my router
Configured tftpd32 as dhcp and tftp server
Set Boot file on dhcp settings to dongle.bin (I renamed the new one to this)
Set the tftp current directory to my gbpvr dongle directory

Viola ! .. MVP connects, downloads the new dongle and (so far fingers crossed) all looks good.

Seems to me that there _may_ be an issue with the gbpvr bootp/tftp server. Now given that not everyone sees this. I have a question for sub. I installed gbpvr in c:\program files\gbpvr - note that I removed the 'devnz' bit of the path. Any possibility that this part of the path is hardcoded somewhere in the bootp/tftp code ?
Hope this helps someone else,
Greg.

I don't think it's the router, it's something to do with the bootp/tftp service.

Yes, dongle.bin and the GBPVR version of dongle.bin. DHCP server says get "this file" in its response packet - so I can swap it if I want.

I did use a free windows one, I forget the name, but that limited DHCP responses to 5 machines (limitation of being free Smile ). So I then set it up on my Linux box.

Well yeah that will work great if the only thing on your network that uses DHCP is the MVP. If you other machines i.e. VMWare virtual machines, etc that use DHCP this could clobber them. Again, this is not a fix for the problem, but a workaround that will likely not work for ALL people with the problem.

Correct. It's a workaround. It's mainly to help those (like me) who have static networks apart from the MVP. Gives Sub a breathing space ..

I am also noticing this problem. If sub needs any additional logs please let me know.
