Hi all,

I am trying to get this setup for the first time and I am having a few problems. I think I am close though, if someone could give me a nudge (kick?) in the right direction.

I just bought a dell dimension 8400, 3.2GHz P4 w/ 1gig RAM. It had a 128 MB PCI-x ATI Radeon x300 SE video card that I plan on using as the video out to the tv. I put in a Hauppauge150 tuner card. I am running XP Home, since that is what came with the system. I am planning on using this setup with a satellite receiver coming in through the S-Video.

Just to test the hardware, I installed the WinTV that came with the tuner card. I can get the antenna and the S-Video inputs to be displayed on the computer. I can get the windows screen to be displayed on the TV, but for some reason I don't actually see the tv part of the WinTV. Oh well, I want GBPVR anyway so never mind that detail.

I downloaded the latest GBPVR (97.7) and followed the wiki on the initial setup. I installed .NET 2.0 and had directx 9.0b already. I setup my capture source and it saw the card just fine. I left the audio and video renderings options alone, at the system default, for the playback. Setup and got the EPG info, so I am getting there.

When I fire it up and try to watch LiveTV, I get the error message: "Error: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other menory is corrupt." I have dinked around a little bit with some of the settings, but I always get this message. I did a search here and found someone else with the same problem
(http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=16457)
The exact solution for him wasn't exactly clear, but it involved removing a dll called MyPictures.dll. I did a quick search and didn't find that file. I did go in the Config program and disabled the plugin. Same problem.

I also tried playing a dvd through GBPVR this morning, and the audio and video were all chopped up and disjointed. I again tried to play with some of the playback settings as far as the decoding goes, but no luck. The powerDVD program that came with the PC seems to work just fine, so I believe the hardware is up to snuff.

Sorry for the long-winded post, but I figured I might as well post everything I have done up to this point. I am not sure what to try next?

TIA, Rdog

have a look at the 97.7 survival guide (sticky at the top of the support forum), point 7, to get the DVD running.

can't help with the other bits, sorry........ Sad

Regarding the live tv crash, what video decoder are you using? Try selecting some other video decoder options if you have them available.

I left it at software decoding since I don't have a hardware decoding.

As far as the codec goes, I left it at the default. I did try a couple others, but kept getting the same error. Since it was the same, I figured something else was the problem so I didn't work through the list completely. I will be home shortly and will try the entire list and report back.

After I get the livetV going, I will work through the survival guide to tune the dvd. Thanks for the tip.

*** sorry....I did not try a couple of others for the video codec, that was audio that I was getting confused with.

Ok, I went and looked again. Under the software decoders I only have 1) system default and 2) InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder. They both crash the same way.

I went and downloaded/installed all the latest from ATI and Hauppauge and still the same.

I was able to get WinTV to at least be displayed on the TV properly (made TV primary display).

Any thoughts? Do I need some different codecs installed for the MPEG2 decoding? Dazed and confused......

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach your logs and I'll take a look.

Thanks for having a look...

Here are the files. I just dumped them all, so probably quite redundant. Hopefully the clue you need is in there. I am probably just doing something stupid. I would really like to get this stuff going, it looks great.

It looks like you've configured your capture source to use a USB-UIRT, but dont actually have one installed.

yup...that did it. thanks Smile

I just followed the install guide figuring I would deal with the remote later. LiveTV is now good, so the last thing is to get the remote and blaster going. It didn't seem to like the IR stuff that came with WinTV, so it looks like HIP
is the way to go from what I am reading on the wiki. Just trying to get it going with a dish network sat receiver, so hopefully all will go smooth.

thanks....love what I am seeing.
