My original goal was to simply be able to watch video files from a networked Tivo (Series 1).

I have a Plextor TV-402U usb capture device, along with a Twinhan 102G satellite card on an xp box with an ATI Radeon VE video card (TV out).

Now, things have spiralled out of control, and I hope to have a PC based PVR that can record from the Satellite card and from the Plextor. I see that Hauppauge came out with a wireless MediaMVP, which seems like the perfect playbackdevice...

However, can the MediaMVP control the GBPVR xp box directly from the network? Also, Ive been reading about the MediaMVP Media Center (mvpmc)... how does this compare?

If you mean to control the Windows OS, then no. If you mean to control the gbpvr application, then yes. Absolutely.

As I understand it, mvpmc needs a MythTV box to talk to. Of course, you can install that if you want. Good luck.

Besides, it looks a bit... unfinished... it does not play divx/xvid? With gbpvr/mvp, you get the full GUI of GBPVR on the mvp. If your computer has the grunt, you can transcode avi/divx on the fly so you can watch them on the mvp.
