Currenlty I use GBPVR and I also have a PCH A-100. My son watches videos (mostly AVI files) that are stored on the computer that runs GBPVR. This just uses simple file sharing between that computer and the PCH. He likes to use GBPVR better because I used MetaDataGrabber and it shows the movie's poster and description. So my question is ... If you use GBPVR on the PCH he will see the nice menus and movie information, but the PCH will no longer use simple file sharing to play the movies right? Instead the GBPVR will process the file and stream the movie to the PCH from my understanding. So this is going to work the GBPVR computer much harder and may not give as good of results and he is getting with the PCH and simple file sharing. Can someone give the their experince/understanding ... pros/cons of doing this?

Thanks,
Greg Hart

If the files are stored on the same computer then there won't be too much difference. The term simple file sharing is misleading it could actually put more load on the system than the http server that GBPVR provides.

If you feel it is an issue note that you can configure mvpmcx2 to play the avi files using the file share exactly like played without using GBPVR. Again as I said no savings are likely but if you move the files to a NAS you could conceivable reduce any load.

does gbpvr still reroute the video when played from it's video library?
that's how regular clients work, they access it directly from the share instead of going thru the gbpvr filters..

When configured to play from a share (Windows or nfs) or from the NMT's local drive, media is streamed directly using the NMT's file system. mvpmcx2 does report back the position in the file however and GBPVR still controls resume, com skip etc. The biggest drawback to using a NAS is that many of them don't stream as fast as mvpmcx2 would like.
