When I connect my tv to the tv out (on PVR 350) the OSD works, but when I try to watch tv (or a recording) either the OSD remains on the tv (on VGA it turns black with the 'tv out' msg) or the screen of tv turns black.

TV-out on WinTV2000 works.

Any suggestions?

It sounds like the PVR350 is functioning fine, but the capture source is setup to look at the wrong input. Whats happens if you try and playback a prerecorded video which you know is fine?

Exactly the same :-(

Wheather plugin, TV guide and menus all work, but as soon as I try to watch direct TV, a recording or another mpg it doesnt display it (mostly, but not always resulting in GB-PVR to hang).
On VGA no problems whatsoever.

It sounds like you may be one of the "unlucky" users, and that the PVR350 may not like the PC it is in.

This problem only affects software which uses the OSD (GB-PVR, SageTV). I suspect its todo with the extra DMA transfers required for displaying the OSD.

I may be jumping to blame this a bit quickly, but dont really have any other immediate suggestions. This functionality has been reasonably reliable for most.

Since the Sub posted the link to my thread I figured I will post the rest of my communications with SageTV and Hauppauge.

Hauppauge says the problem is with SAGETV not there driver (they don't seem to think that OSD crashing on multiple softwares means anything)

SAGETV says that they believe it may be the driver but have not contacted Hauppauge and will not be.

The part that bothers me the most is Sage resells a bundle with their software and the pvr 350. Hauppauge let's them bundle their card with sagetv and has no interest in its stability.

What it seems to come down to is that the user base that is having these problems is to small for sage or Hauppauge to loose to much money so they are going to ignore us.

I am going to return my pvr 350 card and am now requesting that Frey (sagetv) return my money for the software since they are not sure they can fix this for final release. I am going to buy an xcard and use gb-pvr ONLY.

Thank you SUB for making this work on xcard. It is going to save me a lot of troubleshooting and time.

I know that users like myself don't want to hear this but getting rid of the pvr 350 for an xcard may be the only short term solution avaliable. From my conversations with both companies this may turn out to be the only solution, period. Like I have said before I hope they make me a liar and fix the problem but I am doubting it more every day.

Hope this helps someone in the same situation but if not at least I got to complain about Hauppauge and Sage again.

I don't have the option to return the PVR-350 card (already had it sitting still for 3 months :-()

I have 2 (older PIII) machines sitting still to wait to be configured and I will try to install the bastard in those, maybe it is the combo of mainboard and PVR-card.

Maybe it's usefull to give listing of hardware in this machine:

MSI 875P NEO FIS2R
Intel P4-2.6Ghz
(Club 3D) Radeon 9700 Pro
1Gig Ram (2 * Twinmos 512/PC3200 in dual mode)
Hauppage PVR-350 (latest Hauppage drivers installed)
2*120 Gig Maxtor S-ATA running raid 0, striped
Plextor 708 DVD-burner
Plextor 116A DVD-player
OS: WinXP up to date regarding patches
