I'm having problems with 2 functions, which I think are related to some issue with the overlay.

1) xvid and dvix playback do not work in GB-PVR. When using VMR 9, VMR7 or overlay manager, no video appears (e.g. if I'm loading a file using video playback, the screen stays at the file list but remains unresponsive until the non-existant video is stopped by hitting ESC). When using VMR 9 Custom, the screen turns black with no video playback. In all cases, sound is audible - so playback is being attempted but video is simply not being displayed on screen. Windows Media Player plays back the same files fine without problem in both window and full screen mode. MPEG video playback (e.g. pausing TV, watching recorded TV without transcoding) works fine without any performance issues.

2) When using Encoding Pass through de-interlacing, no on-screen display shows up (e.g. ctrl-g doesn't do anything, no channels displayed on screen, no OSD at all) during both live-tv and watching recorded TV (not sure if any OSD is supposed to appear during playback of recorded video). What de-interlacing method should I be using?

I am running a Pentium 4 with the Hauppauge 150. Video card is a nVidia GeForce2 MX 400. I am only using the TV out. I have DirectX 9.0c, and dxdiag.exe shows all tests pass. I am running Windows XP Professional.

I have read previous posts that deal with glitchy or slow MPEG playback, but haven't been able to find anything similar to my situation.

I have tried the DirectX 9.0b quartz.dll replacement, but did not find that worked.

Thanks in advance.

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach your gbpvr.exe-native.log and I'll take a look.

Thanks. Attached is the zip. The most obvious line of interest is:

VERBOSE FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: CyberLink MPEG Muxer

Can you try installing and running AVIcodec from http://avicodec.duby.info/? It'll tell you exactly what type of AVI file it is and what decoders are installed on your machine that can play it.

In you logs, it looks like its not finding a compatible decoder.

Clinch,

Shooting from the hip here, but it's quick & easy...

I just had a similar issue & I've posted the logs for Sub. Start one of your files where you get audio & just a black screen and then press F7 to switch to FILL mode. See if you get video.

Sub-

Thanks. Installing the xvid pack did the trick (not sure why Windows Media Player played back xvid files without trouble though).

One lingering question: overlay does not work whenever I playback a recorded TV MPEG. Overlay does work during playback of recordings that have been transcoded to xvid.
Any reason you can think of why this might happen? I've included the native log.

Deinterlacing is turned off.

Thanks.

BFV: thanks for the tip. It didn't do the trick for me, but it did shoe me the different fill modes I can run through which has been helpful.

By default, the Cyberlink video decoder is not compatible with VMR. This leads to the lack of OSD you're seeing. You need to add some Cyberlink registry settings to enable this (google for Cyberlink EnableVMR9).
