Hello all!

Thanx for a nice software...i have some questions thou:

1. Why is it so hard for me to have the channels right tuned?
ive read the post in this forum tried freqcopy. Finally i
installed SageTV to have correct channel numbers and
entered these in GB-PVR settings. Now theyre working
but one channel (MTV) doesnt want to work at all.
When watching LiveTV an changing to MTV i only se
   the channel i watched before.

2. Is that wave distortion on my PVR recordings normal
(45 degree angle wave distortions in some part of
recorded movies) I dont get any destortions when
    recordning with WinTV.

3. To change a cannel takes much more time for me with
   GB-PVR than with winTV why?

4. Is there any filter to improve tv quality when watching on
   computer screen (1280x1024 85Hz)?

5. Is it possible to record with GB-PVR with computer
turned off. Can GB-PVR startup my pc automatic and
then shut down when recording is ready?

Im greatful for all help i can get

1/ I have to work with the channel changing API Microsoft give me. For most countries it just works, but in some countries the broadcasters dont stick to the channel frequencies that Microsoft use. At some point I'll create a utility to help people work out the channels much easier. I havn't had the time to do this yet.

2/ The contents of the MPEG file should be exactly the same regardless of whether it was recorded by GB-PVR or WINTV2K. In both cases this is handled by the hardware encoder. You may be seeing a result of a channel not being on the correct frequency. May also be worth trying a different decoder to see if it makes a difference.

3/ To stay compatible with MVP/XCard/PVR350/VMR/Overlay I need to code to the lowest common denominator - this means writing an MPEG2 file to disk for all video. WinTV does not have these same constraints so does things in different ways.

Each time I change channels I need to close the current file, reinitialize the hardware, start recording to a new file, then start playback of that file. Unfortunately this does take a while.

If you're viewing on PC monitor, and running WinXP SP1 or higher, you may want to enable the 'Use SBE if available' option. This can make channel changing much quicker. Specifically, it allows the playback of the recording to start much quicker. SBE can be a little picky about MPEG2 decoders it will work with, so if the first one doesn't work - try another.

4/ Try a different MPEG2 decoder. They all seem to vary quite a bit.

5/ GB-PVR will wake the machine to perform a recording. It wont shut it down, but you can configure you machine to shutdown after x minutes of inactivity.

Thanx for the quick answer, impressive!!!

You are doing a really nice job out there sub.

On my question 2 i found an answer....i noticed the same
distortion when i watched Eurosport on my TV...so the
distortion doesnt come from software as you said.

Ill go look for some alternative mpeg2 codecs.....and i have
three more questions:

1. Are you thinking of some sort of language pack? I could help
you with the Swedish translation if you were.

2. Do i need to uninstall any hauppage drivers when i install
   a new mpeg2 decoder?

3. When i want to cancel a scheduled recording i need
to cancel twice, is this a bug or?

Thanx for all help and keep up the good work!!

1/ see http://gbpvr.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=5;t=28

2/ No, just leave it installed

3/ Sounds like a bug. If you return to the main menu after first cancel, is it still schedule. It may just been the screen hasn't been updated.
