Hi all,
I just upgraded my video card from a Radeon 9000 64 meg to a Radeon 9600xt 128 meg. Everything seems to be fine except my OSD. I was using VMR7 and that worked great with the old card (great picture/performance). After I installed the new card (and drivers((and I used drivercleaner))), the OSD was flickering. Everything else seems normal, playback is fine (no stuttering). So, I tried changing it to Overlay. The OSD does not flash, but I don't like the picture quality of the Overlay. It just doesn't look as good. The brights and darks just don't seem right. I have tried adjusting them via the video overlay settings on my video card, but they just never seem to look as good as the VMR7

So, my questions is, does anyone have any ideas for why the OSD would flicker with the new video card using VMR7?

You still have 2 options left: vmr9 and vmr9 custom renderer. I would try these first and see what happens.
AMD Athlon 64 3000, HDD: 80, 120, 200 GB, Hauppauge 350 + 150, MVP, Asus 6000L Laptop client, Asus X50sl client,
Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.

VMR7 is a bit quirky with some cards, causing problems like this. All I can suggest is switching to VMR9.

I will give these a shot, but I was having trouble with the VMR9's awhile ago. I think my processor is too slow (Duron 1200). But I will let you know what happens.

I guess I was hoping that there was a setting in GBPVR or in my Video Card drivers that would resolve this.

Ok, I tried the VMR9. The OSD doesn't flicker, but the picture is even worse than Overlay. The picture is so dark. Also, anything that uses the OSD, causes a lot more slow down than with Overlay or VMR7.

I tried VMR7 again, just to see what the pic looked like compared to VMR9 and it looked great... just that damn flickering OSD.

Unless someone has some ideas, I guess I am just stuck using Overlay.

Why does VMR7 look so much better than Overlay?

I dont know. Most people seem to think overlay looks better than either VMR7/VMR9. Eye of the beholder and all that...
