Two problems..

That is controlled by the 'use live preview mode if possible' checkbox on the misc tab of the config app.

Live Preview mode pretty much goes straight form the card to the tv, with not buffering.

TimeShift mode effectively starts a recording, and then starts playing it.

Ahh so it´s safe to say that I shouldn´t use Live Preview mode then?

Nearly everybody uses Live Preview mode. Its much faster at changing channels, doesnt need to continually be writing to disk etc.

If timeshift works better for you, go with that.
