Maybe try changing the user account the recording service runs as.

I suspect it relates to having IE7 installed. You got IE7 on your machine?

No, I just have IE 6.

I tried various things such as invoking cmd.exe as the channel changer exe and having it then execute /c c:\program files\hip\hipsend {channel} and a few other variations (including cmd.exe executing a batch file which then executes hipsend) but it just won't work. Looks like channel changing with the Hauppauge IR blaster just isn't possible any more from the recording service.

For the recording service, I created a seperate user id (called gbpvr) otherwise I could not record to a network drive. I also tried using the default local service account (with a local drive) to test hipsend and that doesn't work either.

I'd hate giving up when I have come so close!

If you post the GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log, I can at least confirm whether GB-PVR is successful managing to run hipsend.

Here is a complete log file. Everything looks normal, but no IR is actually sent. I noticed that the config app absolutely wants to run an exe program. I would have tried it as a batch file (passing the channel number with %1) if it was possbile.

This thread has severla other people mentioning the same problem:

You logs indicate GB-PVR is doing it's part and successfully managing to run hipsend, so it looks like whatever is going wrong is happening within hipsend. It might be worth contacting it's author to ask how diagnose this, or to get it to produce logs.

Still, its interesting how hipsend works just fine from the main program but not from the scheduler. I'm sure its some kind of permissions/user id thing.

Anyway I'm testing an alternate solution that seems to be working ok right now. I created a couple of simple programs using VB5 to control hipsend using a text file. I created a channel changer program that simply writes the path to hipsend.exe and the channel number I want to a text file, and a second program that sleeps for 500 msec and then looks for the file created by the first program. If it finds it, it executes the hipsend + channel program and erases the text file.

So far it looks like it's working. If it looks ok, then I'll post the programs here in case anyone else wants to use them.
