Files wont play in video library until i copy them

I am getting an increasings more common problem occuring within video library.

I have several folders each with many avi files, mostly xvid and i am finding that when i select them from the menu there is a moment of disk activity and then nothing happens. I can move up and down the file list again.

I can choose a different file and the same thing happens. If i got to the pc where these files are (they are on a share) and just copy one of these files using explorer so there is somefile.avi and copy of somefile.avi then the copy will play fine. I deduce from this that the file is not corrupt, its just gbpvr doesnt want to play it at that time. Within gbpvr i cannot delete the original file - it is as if there is a lock on it somehow but i can delete it form the host pc.

Any ideas?

I would have thought there would be something in the logs in a case like this??

I think this shows whats happening. As you can see i try to play "spooks" a few times, then torchwood and these all fail. When i play "copy of spooks" it plays fine.
Hopefully sub can work this out????

It doesnt seem to have made any difference although the error has gone. The file still doesnt play.

Here are the logs after i tried 3 episodes of ER - none of them played

I'm sure Sub will have the exact answer after reading the logs, however, from the face of it it sounds like permission issues.
It could be that when you copy the file, you actually create a file with the defaults of that folder, which allows the user of the GBPVR machine to read them, but the "original" file (being copied from somewhere else on that host PC? or being created by other software?) are created with different permissions.

Try this: select this folder (or a specific file that doesn't work), right-click, properties, Security - if you see "everyone" in the upper part, skip the next line:
Add, Advanced, find now, Pick "Everyone", Ok, OK,
Select "everyone" on the top, and make sure the "Read" and "Read & Execute" are checked (not sure the later is needed).

Press OK.

If now GBPVR plays the file, then it was permission/credentials issue. If not, then I don't know and ignore all this long post...:p

BTW, this assume you are not using "Simple" file sharing. GUI may look different, and I don't have any system set like that, so I can't help in that case.

Yeah, it does sound permission related to me. The logs dont really offer any further insight.
