i'm sure it has something to do with the way i have my gbpvr configged, but i can't seem to rectify the following issues:

- when i try to watch live tv, i get sound but no picture (just a black screen)
- when i record, it seems to record fine (i get a huge file) and then when i try to play the file in gbpvr it won't play (just flashes a black screen for a second then returns to the recordings menu).
- when i try to play the recording in windows media player, it tries to find a codec and can't downoad it so it won't let me play it there either.

is there a codec i need to grab? i'm pretty ignorant when it comes to codecs so any help would be appreciated.

Reproduce either of these, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

You sure you've got an MPEG-2 decoder installed? This make sit sounds like you havnt, which would explain the black screens in GB-PVR.

What video decoder do you have selected in the playback tab of the config app?

Sounds like you don't have a video decoder. What capture card are you using?

In the Playback tab of config what video decoders are shown?

Lastly, zip up your logs and post them. The logs are in ...gbpvr/logs
GBpvr PC: Intel Celeron 1.8 Ghz. 768 Mb WinXp Home Sp2
Video: Diamond 128 Mb 9550
Capture Cards: PVR-150 & PVR-150 MCE w/fm + 2x MVP

my capture card is the dual tuner hauppauge. i think it is the PVR-500. i'm running windows xp sp2 and it is a brand new install. i just upgraded to a Intel Dual Core 2.13GHz system with a GB of DDR2 667MHZ memory. i am using on board video for now until prices on some of the video cards that will let me handle HD come down in price.

for video decoders, the only one listed is system default and that's the one that is selected obviously. for video renderer, i've tried them all. i've heard the fullscreen one gives the best picture so that's what i'm trying to use, but none of them have worked.

i zipped up the logs, though some of them couldn't be added because they were "in use by another program" which was odd because i had shut down GBPVR. in any event... hopefully you guys can help...

That sounds like you dont have a video decoder installed then. The logs also back this up, indicating it cant find a MPEG-2 video decoder. You'd typically have at least one decoder listed other than 'system default'.

'System default' does mean you have an MPEG2 decoder installed. It just means it'll let windows try to pick one, but if there are none to pick then 'system default' isnt going to work.

You'll need to install one.

I think most people end up getting the cyberlink or the Nvidea decoders. They do cost money. If you have any dvd player software, install that and you will probably get the cyberlink installed.

EDIT: I think you can also use FFDSHOW but you have to make sure it is configured as a decoder. Search the forum for this and I think there is relevant info. That said, I think some people have trouble with FFDSHOW, but it is free...
