Groover - Please do not let me put you off!

I sound a bit negative in my post, but believe me, I absolutely love the system! The WAF alone makes up for this very tiny shortcoming. Other than this it works great, not stuttering, no crapping out when the neighbour uses their microwave, nothing.

For example; the G/F loves moving our living room around, and having to move CAT5 to each location would have been a nightmare. Instead with this just unplug the adapter + power sockets, move to new location, plug-in and Voila! GBPVR goodness wherever you are!

Thanks for the reply; I really am 50:50 about these things. As I don't buy so much as a pencil now without spending hours online beforehand, I have seen many polarised ratings, reviews and feedback. Including here. I have run CAT5 around the house downstairs, in the walls, with nice little faceplates in each room. The wife loves it as it looks nice and neat without "all those cables everywhere". The problem is that I want to get access upstairs as well (before anyone jumps in, I've tried wireless and it sucked; plus, I don't trust it).

This means: - Running cable through the wall a la downstairs; Major WAF, already got all the materials, but major balls ache. I'd have to go up to the attic, then drop back down into each room. Crawling around in a mountain of insulation isn't my idea of a fun weekend.

Or... Over-power ethernet thingies. Which would take me 5 minutes to plug in, but I don't really want to spend the money if it's going to be iffy (I would rather something work or just be busted and not work; it's the sporadic that scares me - it drives me NUTS as I know I'll spend hours and hours, into the night, trying to figure it out...)

I'll maybe get some, try 'em, and if it doesn't work, take them back as an 'unwanted gift' . I can put the resultant store credit towards the wii fund Wink

Thanks for the feedback!

As I understand it, they just have to be on the same ring; a look at the fusebox should pretty much tell you this. I would guess that maybe the 4th light was added afterward and maybe comes off an outlet ring?

Thats my understanding too.

However, they happily seem to jump the fusebox in our place between the upstairs ring and the downstairs ring (6 yr old only though). They seem to work pretty much everywhere I've tried them, it's only the meter box that seems to snub the signal (I tried for a laugh over at the neighbours house!).

Ok. Gents.

I tried placing a small 5 port switch between the powerline and the mvp. Still no luck. Looks like I have connectivity. Link Status and all the lights are indicating a go. But I keeping getting the messages:

Contacting MediaMVP Bootserver......
&
Contacting DHCP Server.........

I then checked the DHCP Table of my router and I do not have an IP and MAC address recognized.

Now I switch to a 25 ft cat 5 cable that I have strung between the rooms and pluged into my switch, and All is well.

Do any of you gentleman know why this might be happening...is there something on my linksys router that I need to look at...

I even upgraded the firmware on my router to make sure I hasve the most recent version.

Any help would be really appreciated... Thanks,

Ed
