Greetings and Salutations,

What would happen if I had two physically separate tuner cards set to the same board number -> capture device?

Thanks, Cheers

It depends, what cards they are.

For example, if you had a ATI card and a Hauppauge card, then they'd both be device #1. If you had two Hauppauge cards, then one would device #1, the other would be device #2.

The device number is only ever increased if you have more than one device using the exact same filter names. Most manufacturers have a different set of filter names for each and every model they make. Hauppauge reused the filternames across their PVR150/250/350/500 cards, so mixtures of those cards tend to require the device # to be increased.

I've got three PVR150s (one retail, two MCE).

I've just been getting some crazy behaviour when trying three simultaneous recordings.

Is the capture device designation tied into the check box for "only show detected devices"? I've never had this box checked and just call them all PVR150.

No.

You should just set them up as three PVR150s (or one PVR150 and two PVR150MCEs - though doesnt realy matter unless you're intending to use the FM radio), with device numbers set to #1, #2 and #3.

What is crazy behaviour exactly?

Well two of the shows are watchable, but sometimes swapped channels and the third is a huge(20-40GBs) file that causes trouble if played (explorer.exe hogging mass cpu).

I think I got my capture sources all straightened out now. I found capture source #3 and #1 both called board #1. I also found one that should have had antenna input but was cable when I first checked. This latter one I wouldn't think would have any effect because you could have cable straight out of the wall and it would still need to tune the channels like an antenna input.

I was thinking that it may be a driver issue that's only conflicting with the newest tuner card.

IDUNNO - Now that F1 practice is over I can go do some testing and I'll post back the results.

I've attached the logs from the other night when things went pear-shaped but don't worry about it unless I post back that it's still a problem. I have a good feeling that fixing those couple of config items will help.

As always I appreciate your help. Cheers

Well, definitely a step in the right direction. All three are playable and an appropriate size, however one was missing audio.

I will do some more testing, but now the driver thing is coming back to my thoughts.

I'll post back.

Be seeing you. (who else digs The Prisoner?)

edit - just realized I forgot to answer the OS? - XP Pro
