Rookie with start up problems

Hi Gang,

I'm using a TechnoTrend S-1500 budget for Satellite and I'm having some problems getting it work and hence finalise my switch from MEdiaPortal - which is attractive but I have found it to be very unstable.

I think the problem lies in maybe getting the EPG sort out. Is this a pre-requisite to tuning a DVB-S card ? It's bda compliant.

In any event, trying to start the the GBPVR LIve Tv results in the "No Channels ..." message.

I've tried making EPG data available from XMLTV.... but I'm not 100% sure thats working.

Other software can tune the card to Astra 1C without requiring EPG. Hope thats possible with GBRPVR - since EPG is of somewhat secondary importance - since 90% of the data is for encrypted channels to which I have no access.


Let me know if I need to send along any long file or anything - but I'm struggling at the moment and would like get up and running.

Have you hit the 'map digital channels to epg channels' button in your capture source settings to scan for your channels?

yes and it looks like I have no epg data. is that going to be key to this ?

i hoped that it could be solved by persuading gb-pvr it liked my card. I have HVR1300 and it likes that a lot - but the pic quality is weak taking the digital sky signal over co-ax - hence I bought i dvb-s that I thought would solve it.

out of interest, mediaportal seemed sometimes to think the card was Nova-S-PCI....and that works "on and off"

You need to have an EPG, whether its the DVB EPG or XMLTV.

Most UK users use the xmltv grabber from www.birtles.org.uk/xmltv/

Hi - thanks for you help. You must have the patience of saint.

So 2 things have happened :firstly, if you create a few empty channels, then hit Map, it moves to the tuner screen and starts to scan..

secondly, it finds nothing inthe UK if you use Astra 1c

I switched by chance to Astra 1c & Sirius 1,2,3, - and then saw lots of signal strength and quality during the scan - it even begins to pick up a few channels...


then it crashed....

Very disappointing - but not a total loss....it's the same kind of behaviour as MediaPortal.... as soon as everything seems ok - and it starts to line up channels POP ! It drops out !

So I wonder if have a duff windows dll somewhere ? or something similar

Having said that - the "function over form" german tuner software that ships with the card has no such problems.

....(thinking out loud) something up with .net framework perhaps /
