I'm trying to configure a gbpvr-based HTPC, but I'm having a lot of problems. I'll write here the most important ones:

1) GBPVR can't play AVI's. My codecs are OK because I can play all files (including AVI's) in VLC and Windows Media Player. But GBPVR can't...

2) If I disable "use live-preview" (use time-shifting mode instead), when I change the channel two or three times, GBPVR hangs.

3) If I'm in time-shifting mode, when I rewind/pause/fast forward sometimes (I don't know exactly when) the audio and video get out-of-sync

4) In EPG guide, I must push right or left key in remote lots of time before the next/previus program gets selected (green color). Up and down are OK (I jump between channels) but navigate between programs of the same channel is almost impossible.

Any idea? Thanks...

What version of GBPVR are you using? Problem 4) sounds like a known problem in 1.0.8 where DVB EPG would cause about 6 copies of each program to appear in the guide (which is why you have to press 6 times to move to the next program). There was a patch for it but it's now replaced with v 1.0.16 so if you're on 1.0.8 then I would upgrade to the latest release.

For problem 1) in the config app under the playback tab what do you have selected for video decoder?

Not sure about the other 2 problems but I seem to remember problem 2 being mentioned in a previous version too.

This will be something wrong with the decoders you've got installed. Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take.

What capture card are you using?

This is usually related to the decoders you're using. What audio and video decoders do you have select on the playback tab of the config app? (dont leave them set on 'system defaut')

This usually indicates you've got the same entries multiple times in your tv listings. What epg source are you using, and do you have the 'complete epg reload' option enabled in the config app?

As asked above, what version of GB-PVR are you running?

Thank you both for the answers

And excuse me if I don't write correctlyin english langguage, but I'm from Spain...

Quote:What version of GBPVR are you using?

I was using an old version (0.9xxx), but now I have installed the last version (1.0.16) and all the problems are almost the same. The only problem is "a little better" is number 2). Now, the program doesn't hang, but returns to main menu...

Ok. I was using 2 epg sources. I have an hybrid tv card (HVR1300) and I had 2 sources configured: DVB-T for digital and xmltv plugin for analog. And the "complete EPG" option said that "don't use for DVB-T", but there is only one option for all the sources. I couldn't say "complete reload" for xmltv and "not complete reload" for DVB. So I had in "complete reload".

But now, I have installed latest version of gbpvr, set the analog EPG to "none" and deleted and reloaded the whole DVB epg. And now it seems to be OK (altough the automatic reload has not happens yet and don't know if it will be OK after that). A question... EPG is only reloaded once every day? That is not enough... That way the recordings won't re-adjust to changes in broadcasting hours...

Well, actually there are some more problems with EPG, but I'll open a new message for that (channels with no EPG, problems with spanish characters...)

I have tried all the decoders I have installed: NVIDIA , NERO, InterVideo NonCSS and DScaler. Same problem with all of them. And anyway... they are MPEG decoders... I suppose that this configuration option doesn't affect to AVI playing.

Happening too in latest version...

Usually, I select NVIDIA video and audio decoder. I have tryed changing Video Decoder (but not Audio Decoder) and happens the same. Not all times, but sometimes.
One extrange thing I have seen is that when I am in PAUSE, if I press PAUSE again, the video starts fast to play againg. But if I am in PAUSE and I press PLAY, it last longer to resume playing. It is not important, but it looks extrange (I supposed that both actions should be the same... resume playing)

What capture card are you using?

I am using a Hauppauge HVR-1300 (hybrid TV turner). As I say above, before installing the latest version of GBPVR the problem continues happening, but gbpvr doesn't hang (it returns to main menu).

-----

And other extrange effect I am seeing. In live-TV mode, the image doesn't refresh always smoothly: sometimes I can see an horizontal line in the first quarter of the image and it looks like I could see a desynchronized refresh in both parts of the image. But when I am recording the program (or playing a recorded one) I can't see that effect.

I have thinked about an de-interlacing problem... But I don't need de-interlacing because I am using the composite TV-OUT for viewing. So I tried to cancel the de-interlace process... but at least in NVIDIA purevideo decoder it is not possible to cancel. There is no option for this. There are various modes of de-interlacing (auto, smart, etc.) but no "none". I have to try with other decoder (I think it is possible to cancel de-interlacing with DScaler).

But if it were de-interlacing problem I should see the effect with pre-recorded program, I suppose. I have thinked about slow PCI-x data transfer, but it is extrange... And finally I have been reading the quartz.dll problem, so I have to try this too (change the quartz.dll for the 9.0b version).

Thank you all and excuse me for the huge message.

I was wrong: I can see it too in pre-recorded shows. Sometimes it is visible (live or recorded) mostly after a recent program change. And other times the effect doesn't appears or appears very slightly

The logs seem to indicate that directshow wasnt able to find a decoder for the type of video contained in the file.

But it happens with all AVI files I try.... and I can play all them using any other player (VLC, Windows Media Player....). Ok, VLC is self-contained, but Windows Media Player or Nero Player or any other I use can play them.

I'm not sure why its not picking up the decoders used by WMP, but it will definitely be caused by the decoders you have installed. I'm sure it'd be easily fixed by installing a different video decoder. For example, http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Koepi_XviD.htm

I'm sure you'd have the same problem with most directshow based players. For example, if you downloaded graphedit and selected the 'render media file' menu option then selected your AVI file it'd fail to find the decoder. These are the exact same steps GB-PVR performs when playing an AVI file (ie, just asks directshow to render the media file, then directshow attempts to locate decoders required, and in this case is failing).
