What program did you use to draw that? I just setup a rather complicated network and really need to do a drawing like that so someone else knows how its set up.

I've been a lot of things in my working life but I'm currently back in electronics wiring and assembly.

Being self-employed, if I made up a cable like that, I'd have to charge myself about 70p in labour charges - then there'd be the cost of cable and connectors. Big Grin

Visio actually. The picture was something I did for Geekzone.co.nz over here. There were some other products mentioned but I just used visio - since I have it here at work.

Allright, I'll download Visio (can get it for free from school legally Smile).

How many cables do you think you can make in an hour?Wink

You would have to buy a 305 mtr box of utp (€60,-), and therefore 600 rj45 connectors (€150,-) to make it cheap. That would cost ~ €0,70 per 1mtr cable. =~ 45p. Well I don't think I'll start a business for this.Big Grin

Other than having less clutter, a shorter cable won't make anything run better or worse... the max length allowed is 100m. A 3m cable will run the same as a 35m cable.

Yeah, I'm not looking for increased performance I just want to use the long cable for a laptop in the next room so a short cable is all I need to replace it.

Thanks for the headsup tho.

Actually, a longer cable can harm performance...if you coil it up to use it instead of a much shorter cable. The reason? Crosstalk.
