I recently installed GBpvr v1.016 and just when I was ready to celebrate, it started to exhibit AUDIO stutter. I searched all the forums and didn't find ANYONE with this problem! (only video stutter). I have cable TV hooked directly into my tuner card and every channel will exhibit the same problem at random times: the audio will repeat the same phrase about 6x then proceed normally, then repeat again ad infinitum (video doesn't stutter at all though). I've tried every video render option & every audio render option in the setup and I've tried every hardware acceleration option (both video & audio) and no change. When I played an mpg recording from GBpvr and played it from GBpvr it had the same problem. Now the defining test: I played that SAME mpg on MPC (totally different program), and it played flawlessly. So I believe the problem is in the playback of the GBpvr (not in my hardware). I get the same results using PVRX2. I would like to continue using this program but the stutter is too annoying, too annoying, too annoying.

Any clues?

It most likely just relates to the audio decoder you're using.

If the file plays fine in some program, then you know it's not the file and sub is right. I've had similar problems where the fix was I had to mess with the audio decoder settings. Even with only wanting everything to go straight to my stereo receiver through spdif, that still caused some problems like you described until I changed this or that setting.

Some audio decoders are easier to use than others. FFDshow for instance has so many options it's easy to get lost.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

I was slightly mistaken: I did some more experimenting and have found that only PVRx2 has the stutter problem and GBpvr does not. Don't they use the same config data? That should eliminate the audio decoders as the problem, yes? I don't mind using GBpvr but it won't load any of the plugins (ex: TV Listings, SearchWiz).

Any more clues what to do? Sad

WHat do you have your audio and video decoders set to? Dont leave them set on 'system default'.

Audio Decoder: System Default (only 1 available in menu)
Video Decoder: System Default & MPEG Audio (tried both already)

The critical question I posed was: "Doesn't both GBPVR & PVRx2 use the same config data?" If so, then why would it matter what decoders I select since it would create the stutter in both programs if that was the problem?

And why don't any of the plugins I select in the config appear in GBPVR when they do appear in PVRx2? Rolleyes

Thanks.

It sounds like you dont have a good set of decoders available. You obviously have some type of decoder, but it's not one of the common ones that has been tested with GB-PVR (if it was, then it would be listed)

You can get some decent decoders from here:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPV_Decoder.htm (video)
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPA_Decoder.htm (audio)

Unless the video renderer was set to 'VMR9 Custom' then these two apps would be using different video renderers, which can cause decoders to behave differently.

If you've only got 'system default' listed, then you need to install some other decoders.

GBPVR.exe used to look in a different location for plugins than the new PVRX2 application. The old scheme used by GBPVR.exe was too messy, with all the files jammed in one directory. PVRX2 uses a cleaner scheme with one directory per plugin.

Thanks for your prompt reply (I don't know how you do it with so many forum questions - very commendable) :o. I installed both of the decoders you recommended. The audio one seemed to fix the stutter, but the video one didn't seem to make any difference.

Now can you explain or refer me to a webpage that details the differences between the audio renderer and video renderer options?

Here are my Audio Renderer Options:
System Default
SB Audigy 2ZS
Default Direct Sound Device
Default WaveOut Device
DirectSound: SB Audigy 2ZS

Here are my Video Renderer Options:
Overlay Manager
VMR7
VMR9
VMR9 Custom
VMR9 Full Screen Exclusive

I don't know which one is better or does what.

* * *

And can you explain or refer me to a webpage that explains names and locations of setup files exclusively for GBPVR vs. PVRx2? I changed the config or did something suggested in the forum and it fixes one program but not the other - it's driving me crazy. For examples: I changed the config.xml and can get channel #s in PVR but not GB TV Guide. I get the SearchWiz plugin to work in PVR but not GB (it can't seem to locate the 'skin.xml' file). I update the yapixml and it appears completely in GB but not in PVR (I get a lot of empty spots with "No Show Details"). I just want one of the programs to work right.

Thanks.

Sorry, I dont have web pages for you that explain these things. If you do a forum search you'll find lots of previous discussion about the differences between the various video renderers. Be aware that these are old settings only used by the GBPVR.exe app. PVRX2 always uses VMR9 Custom.

Basically GBPVR.exe is the old application, and hasnt been updated since February. This channel numbers feature was added after February, so is not available in GBPVR.exe

I'm fairly sure new versions of SearchWiz, like many other plugins now, are only designed to work with the new PVRX2.exe application.

Post a thread about the guide not working for you in PVRX2.exe and I'll look into for you. I can already guess why its not showing up for you.

Dont bother wasting your time with GBPVR.exe. It's going to get more outdated as time goes by, and will soon removed from the distribution in a couple of months time.

Well, I just deleted the gbpvr.db3 file and remanufactured a new one and that seemed to cure the Guide problem (although it seems like a hatchet job for fixing a problem that shouldn't exist).

Otherwise, I'm just using PVR as you suggested and fixing problems 1 at a time. I'm making progress.

It would be extremely helpful to have 1 page that describes what each file does in the GBpvr folder(s) (hint, hint).

Thanks for the support. Smile
