I seem to be able to enable the "use hardware acceleration" tab in the Nvidia Purevideo control panel when using EVR and WinXP. It does seem to make a huge difference to live TV. However, I get big fat nuthin' if I press the DVD menu button (whatever combination of decoders or acceleration I use)- the screen flickers once, then the menu page returns.

Also, at present, if I use Purevideo with hard acceleration enabled and FSE, I get nice psychedelic blocks. Happens in media player too. Disable hardware accel, everything is fine. I would be confused if I hadn't got used to this sort of thing!

So, something is getting hardware accelerated somewhere??!!

Check the survival guide. There's now a fix for the DVD under EVR problem.

Thanks for this. I am trying to fix all my GBPVR issues in one go, so I had my eye off the ball with that one.

XP users, replace c:\windows\system32\evr.dll with the one in the attached zip file. Vista users can download this updated dll from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935878/en-us

Close PVRx2 before replacing the dll.

Caveat: Aspect Ratio modes in config.xml with negative values are not accessible. PillarBox is the closest to the 4:3 ratio. I'm sure that you can edit the values to find the right aspect but I stretch to full screen anyway.

Anyone know where this file can be found now, the one for XP?

I believe that the 3.x .Net framework now includes the dll and the latest should have a newer version that includes the fix.

Check your system32 folder for evr.dll and dxva2.dll. If the evr.dll is version number 6.0.6000.20583 or newer, then you have the patch. If you don't have it, let me know. The "XP version" was just the dlls extracted from the Vista install, so if you have access to a Vista machine, you can copy them and register the evr.dll
