I thought I might try my hand with a new mux so I can use .mpg files in preparation for installing a client and to see if I could get better performance on my trouble channels. I installed the ati mux and was able to view live tv fine and things seemed fine. I then decided to record to see how thing went there and that's where thing went bad. I hit quick record for a show that was in progress from the TV guide and let it ride for a while. I then went back to the guide and chose to play the recording in progress and it seemd great as well. The issue was when the program completed recording, if I tried to watch it from the recording menu it would play in slow motion and stutter like I was on my 6th cup of coffee. Any ideas why the recordings would have issues playing while live tv, and it seemed timeshifted tv played fine?

I had something similar when using the ATI mux on HD content. Timeshift tv would play fine but when playing back a recording the video and audio would stutter if I used the ATI mpeg decoder. Looking at the graph in GraphEdit the only difference I remember seeing was that while in timeshift it was using the GB-PVR Parser instead of the microsoft mpeg demux filter that was used when playing back a completed recording.I could get video to play fine if I switched to the cyberlink mpeg decoder but had audio sync problems with both HD(hdhomerun) and analog(pvr150mce) recordings. I saw a posting about HD content on clients and changing the default mpeg demux filter and gave that a try. Changing the mpeg demux solved my issue with playing HD recordings

My settings in config.xml are
<PreferredDecoder>ATI MPEG Video Decoder</PreferredDecoder>
<PreferredAudioRenderer>Default DirectSound Device</PreferredAudioRenderer>
<PreferredAudioDecoder>CyberLink Audio Decoder (ATI)</PreferredAudioDecoder>
<PreferredMpegPlaybackDemux>MainConcept MPEG Splitter</PreferredMpegPlaybackDemux>

Here is a link to the topic about the demux filter http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ient+demux

I'm just posting to push this thread up the list so it's easier to find and to add a few more words that might help it come up under searches people might try.

I had the issue described with the ATI mux where live TV from an ATSC HD broadcast was fine, and time shifted content was fine. However, as soon as I went to watch a completed recording, it would stutter or skip horribly (both audio and video) and was completely unwatchable. The MainConcept MPEG Splitter as referenced in this thread (and http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=31558) worked great to fix the problem. Once I changed the preferred MPEG playback Demux line to read

<PreferredMpegPlaybackDemux>MainConcept MPEG Splitter</PreferredMpegPlaybackDemux>

playback of the recordings is perfect. (This isn't a setting that is available in the config program, but perhaps it should be.)

Prior to finding this fix, my system was working pretty good recording to DVR-MS format, however, the show length (or duration) was never correct (a 3 hour show recorded last night showed up as over 13 hours when I watched the recording) and I couldn't watch the recordings with my MVP (at least not without transcoding first.)

Now my system is rocking. Hopefully others that may be experiencing this issue will find this thread helpful. Perhaps a reference to this issue should even be added to the wiki?

Anyway, I'm going to have to shoot a few more bucks Sub's way in appreciation of his amazing work.

Just wanted to say that i had the exact same problems with playback with ATI recordings, and when using the cyberlink demux had audio sync problems. After reading the above thread and downloading the k-lite MPEG pack, everything is working great with the ATI Mux now, still have audio sync issues with cybelink, i even sloved some problems with HD playback in live TV preview mode.

The one thing that worked for me: There was an option when installing the K-lite pack, to make the cyberlink mpeg splitter the default instead of using microsofts Horrid, bad, extreemly poor mpeg splitter, when dealing with HD. (please note this was not the mux that i downloaded to make recordings, but rather something that comes with K-lite)

Now i am extreemly happy, but this all took about 2 months to figure out.
