I know I could have 1 of three issues happening.

1st, my AVI could be in a format that takes a bit more oomph to process.

2nd, I only have 1Gb of RAM, so maybe I'm hitting a bottleneck there.

3rd, my MVP lies on the opposite side of a 801.11g connection.

Since MPEGs are usually fine, I'm thinking it's either the format of the AVI, or the RAM. (Please say RAM! I feel like an upgrade is due.)
Currently Running: 1.4.7

I'm guessing number three. I'd try temporarily pluging in a long cable to see if the problem goes away.

If MPEGs don't stutter over the same Wi-Fi connection, why would the AVI? They're converted at the server and then streamed, correct?

I dont know (maybe different bitrates etc), but I guessed number three because its seems the most likely of the three options listed. Your 3.0GHz P4 with 1GB of memory shouldnt have any problems transcoding the AVI for playback on the MVP.
