In what way is the video choppy?

Sometimes the deinterlacing gets out of sync on my system when skipping, which makes panning shots look very choppy, it's usually fixed by pausing the video / skipping a bit back and forwards.

nkh,

It's possible that's what's going on. It's most evident in the panning shots and it's not a jittery like a system having trouble with playback is, but it's quite annoying. I might do some testing later to see if by turning off deinterlacing it goes away even with the latest quartz.dll.

Still, whatever the case, with the directx 9.0b quartz.dll, it doesn't occur. The fact that this quartz.dll problem has persisted for so long is ridiculous.

I was wondering if windows had "replaced" the quartz.dll in an update....

I am not sure which ones I have or which old ones anymore....

Which version did you use and from where? Can you post link?

(I am also using NVIDIA decoder on Gefore6600 with latest drivers and soundblaster card with their drivers for audio.)

OK. To answer my own question I went and re-read the posts to figure out version numbers and ....

The cat came back.....

Seems I was back with 9C version. I did find a zip file with the 9b version 6.5.1.902 at 1.87 MB and forced that into windows\system32

I would like to know if this is windows update, installing games (which reinstall 9c version files), or just that bad date which keeps coming back, or maybe cabbage but for some reason, it keeps coming back.

Will see if this fixes the choppy....

I'm guessing it was windows update that did it. I noticed my file was dated 10/27/07 (or something like that) and it wasn't the same size or date as the 9c version I'd archived previously.

You did take some special steps to copy the old one back in, right? You can't just overwrite the file outright or Windows will reinstall 9c from it's sneaky little backup. Make sure you check after reboot that you still have the 9b version installed.

Only steps I took was to copy over the 9b version in safe mode. Is there something else to do?

Not if the change stuck, I guess. Smile I never tried it in safe mode, but if I know if you do it conventionally Windows restores it for you within a few seconds.

What I did, and some utilities available will also do for you, is rename the existing file, copy in the 9b version and reboot. The renaming allows programs that currently use it to maintain their file handles - and thus Windows doesn't recognize it's deletion and try to restore it - and then the new one takes it's place on reboot.
