Hello,

First of all, I just want to say GBPVR is 100x better than the Hauppauge GUI that came with the Wireless MVP. I finally got divx / xvid movies working with zprocess, so now I am on to my next challenge.

On my wireless network, I have a Wii, printer, the MVP, and a Sony Laptop. I have a wired desktop PC that is hosting the server for the MVP. Every time I boot up the laptop, the MVP loses connection to the server. After a minute of "contacting servers", I get the "failed to find GUI" message before GBPVR finally comes up. The original Hauppage GUI did the same thing, so I don't think it's a problem with the software.

This leads me to believe it has something to do with the way my network is set up. Originally, I just had nonstatic IPs for everything when the problem started. I tried forcing the laptop to a static IP, but that didn't help anything. Turning on the Wii or the printer don't seem to affect anything.

Any ideas?

When you give the laptop a static ip, make sure it's outside the dhcp-pool.
e.g. you give it 192.168.1.5, then the dhcp pool should be e.g. 192.168.1.10 and up.
I don't know if this helps but I know it cured some problems in my network setup.

Thanks! I'll give that a try.

Hmm, that didn't seem to work. I told the router to start DHCP at 192.168.10.100 and told the laptop to use a static IP of 192.168.10.50. Starting up the laptop still causes the MVP to reboot. Once the laptop boots up, the MVP does eventually reconnect. From looking at the gbpvr logs, it looks like the MVP is connecting to 192.168.10.101.

I'm wondering if the MVP is seeing the laptop join the network and is then checking to see if there is a server on it.

Try giving the MVP a static IP (again, outside the DHCP range). This has solved connection problems for lots of folks, and I routinely set things up that way.
